Another question for you experienced Gen 1 owners out there....the fuel tank, what range do you get from yours? It seems to drop like a stone in certain areas and once the light came on the gauge showed completely empty even though looking in the tank I appeared to have a few litres left ! Was just a bit unnerving the first time lol

not trying I can get 50 mpg which given the tank is 21 litres gives a range of 230 miles, I have filled up at 200 and still not have to put 21 litres in, the max was 18. Regularly the light comes on at about 180 so still got, say 40 miles left.

I once took some spare fuel on a run and got just over 50 miles from the fuel light coming on before it died.

i get 200 to a tank - to be honest it never varies a lot unless i do a lot of 100mph+ in europe then it drops dramatically - pretty regular fall in gauge too and mines a 2002 model - never pushed the yellow light far tho..... good to know it could get me 50 miles tho!

If you take it easy more like 70. I always take mine to 200 + and on three occasions 250 + the highest being 259. I tend not to take much notice of the fuel light coming on as it comes on too early imo. When I start to feel a bit concerned I just look in the tank.

Wow, I've only filled mine up once so far but could have sworn I only got ~150 to the tank (to the light going on). Yeah, it was a new toy but I very rarely breached 7000 rpm, only taking it up to about 9-10000 rpm once or twice.
Looking forward to next fuel up to see if it was actually 150 I got - can't remember.

But how much did you put in!
Of course a lot depends on your right hand, but normally if I fill when the light first comes on, it takes about 16 litres and will have done about 170 miles. If I wait for the needle to hit the bottom of the scale and stop moving, it takes about 18 litres and will have done about 195 miles. I never deliberatly take it past 200 miles on a tank because I didn't buy a litre class bike to get physical excercise.

Just filled up again, 160 miles on about £19-£20 of petrol (at 132p a litre)

I filled up yesterday morning, so far done about 150 and it's still above the quarter mark, very pleased with that so far :)

£20 / 1.32 ~ 15 litres
15 litres at 4.54609 litres per gallon (imperial not US) = 3.3 gallons
160 miles / 3.3 gallons = 48.5 miles per gallon.
Hard to complian about that :)

Why can't they just put the volume in gallons not poxy litres, so much easier to see how good our bikes are on fuel!!

Today my fuel light came on at.......Wait for it.......200.5 miles. :eek This time round it's going to hit 270 miles on a single tank.

I never run my fuel level to the bottom of the tank if I can help it cos I'm worried about any silt at the bottom getting in the carbs and blocking jets etc. Am I right to be concerned about this?

I only ever put petrol in mine, I tend to leave silt in the river where it belongs. :D

I always make sure I fill up within 30-35 miles of the light coming on. Usually that means I put in 18 litres and never worry about slowing down because the light is on (unless I know I'm more than 40 miles from a garage)

It is not a significant problem for petrol engines in regular use, but if you tend to park it up for the winter and want to an easy way to reassure your self, the next time you take the tank off, (to change the air filter or whatever) drain the tank through some kitchen paper. If there is any gunk at the bottom, you will see it and you will have got it out of the tank.

Well in the end managed 206 miles before it was low enough to concern me, i am very pleased to be honest :)
