FZS600 Fazer / dipped beam bulb
« on: 18 June 2014, 08:33:21 pm »
ok so how come the bulb for the left dipped beam is a weird thin thing and where do I get a new one from?

went to replace it as not working and was faced with 2 prong thin bulb in an x shaped holder thing. ebay only has standard bulbs so a bit lost unless i try a dealer?

General / Re: major tight spot on chain
« on: 16 June 2014, 01:43:34 pm »
yep, looks like it will need changed :(

It depends how the tight spot developed, if it has developed a tight spot from the bike being stood of a lenghty period and being sat on the sprockets for a long time then lots of lube and then running the chain a little slack whilst making minor adjustments every week or so will pull the chain out, but if the tight spot developed any other way then yes the chain is wankered.
dont think was stood for a time as far as I know so looks like it is fecked :(

How many links on q standard chain? Seen various lengths and don't want to get wrong one. Is it 110?

Get a new one and sprockets, once a chain develops a tight spot it is buggered.Imagine the consequences if it snapped!
Thought that might be the case :-(  ah well credit card ahoy!!

General / major tight spot on chain
« on: 15 June 2014, 04:46:41 pm »
chain and sprockets been replaced on bike recently (before i got it) and the chain has major tight spot. don't think it saw any lube and was pretty bad on way home after i bought it. Was ok on test ride couple of days earlier but was wet so think it buggered it a bit more.
anyhoo spent couple of hours the other day working each link free with chain lube in each one, that was fun, and seemed to sort it and was running free. short run and was ok, readjusted the chain as moved a bit after lube. Job done i thought.

well ride out today and its back, almost no flex in chain at one area, roll in on and has 35-40mm as should. Should i redo it again or bite the bullet and get a new chain. was a did 530vm so not cheap shite. sprockets look as new so would prob keep them unless they are also part of the problem tho don't know how.

your thoughts are much appreciated :)

FZS600 Fazer / Re: rattle on tick over until clutch pulled
« on: 15 June 2014, 09:02:27 am »
It sounds like the clutch rattling it can often be improved by balancing the carbs.
OK great. Would never have thought of that. Will give it a try :-)

FZS600 Fazer / rattle on tick over until clutch pulled
« on: 14 June 2014, 09:49:28 pm »
Hi all been fettling the new girl and noticed that she is quite rattly on tick over until I pull clutch and  then goes quiet.
Could this be cam chain tensioner? Thought that would continue clutch in or out but not sure
Is it normal or do I need to poke about in the clutch?

On plus side new conti road attack 2 tyres on today and feel nice but will run in tomorrow :-)  also new ebc hh pads at front as old ones had about a mm left :-\  tried to replace sprocket but with 12 mm but looks like a two man job as just turns motor over with breaker bar.... Still least it means old one won't come off anytime soon
Cheers
Mark

That kinda sums up the fz1 too mate...:-)

The jury is still out with me and the thou....& at present i still have the bonus of both machines.....horses for courses really......the thou has the adrenaline surging oomph & the noise it makes under full pelt is lovely music.

But i still "feel" like im quicker in the corners on my aged 600...it is really nimble......however what im feeling and what im actually doing are perhaps different things as the thou speedo seems to suggest.

I havent had time to properly gel with it yet....ive done the forst run from Manchester in the pissing rain....& ive done a 50 miler on B roads in high winds....i need a proper dry hot day in mid wales.

Oh wait.....saturday is gonna be a dry hot day in Wales.......i can smell a thou day pass cooking :) ......purely so i can compare the 2 of course. ;)

nothing like a hot welsh one  :D  apart from a hot wet Scottish one of course...and then there's the roads!!

Local garage has a thou and a gen1 6 in stock so will try both i think to see. I Like the foxeye 6 but theirs will give me what I need to know.
Loved my thou from before but do remember having to wind it up to make her go and will seem heavy after my storm but watch this space for an update.

thanks for the input peeps

anyone fancy a high bar conversion storm with full luggage system and tank bag??  :)

This will be interesting.....iam lucky enough to have both, been using the thou for the last 2 years and have only just got the 6 back on the road......rest assured  theres loads of fun to have on the 6  :D ......biggest difference for me is the weight, nice and flickable the 6, torque for the thou, no need to change down for overtakes, mpg, it does get a bit of a pain filling up the thou.......if I had to choose I would take the 6.....but the best option by far is to have both  ;)

if only i could justify both I would :P

General / fzs600 vs fzs1000
« on: 14 May 2014, 10:02:16 pm »
ok so looking at the stats on the two bikes it got me wondering if the 600 wasn't far off the 1000 it terms of power to weight ratio.
the 600 is about 20kgs lighter and 95bhp aint to be sniffed at but are they really that different on the road?
Had a 1000 before and have had large capacity bike for a while (zrx1200, bandit 12, firestorm the noo) would i get on with a 600 or would i miss the power too much?
I am now using the bike to commute about 20 miles each way and the 600 def better on fuel but I wonder if the fun factor would be missing?
your thoughts ladies and gentlemen please :)

For Sale & Wanted / Re: For Sale FZS1000

I'm selling my much treasured FZS1000 as i need to raise funds for a house move.
Its a 2003/03 in Silver (the best colour !) 22,500 miles.

The bike has been lovingly cared for since I bought it in 06 and I've done all my own servicing in that time.
Its in very tidy condition and has hardly ever seen rain.
It has been resprayed because it toppled against the garage wall some time ago and scratched the fairing. There is also a very small ding in the end can but I have the original available too if required.
The bike has been 'Ivanised' by MikeGTX and has many other tasteful mods including a full shock rebuild by K-Tech, genuine Yam sub-cowl and engine protectors.
I have lots of receipts and a documented history of all the work/services carried out and all the old MOT's.
If anyone is interested, drop me a line. I've got plenty of photos I can send on. I'm looking for £2750.00
Thanks. Andy
p.s. The tank bag and luggage rack in the picture aren't included as they've now been sold.
