Am on the way to The North Cape / Nordkapp in Norway. Have so far travelled via Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and today have reached Finland and the Arctic Circle, which of course necessitates a visit to the kitch Santa's workshop in Rovaniemi, Finland.

I followed the instructions above when fitting a Fuzeblock FZ1 recently, and would make one small improvement to the wiring solution. Rather than connecting the switched live wire of the Fuzeblock to the Red/Yellow wire under the main fuse box (which is the fuse protected side of the headlight fuse), use the other side (the brown/Blue wire) instead.

If the headlight fuse should blow, and you are connected to the Red/Yellow side wire, you'll also lose power to the switched wire to the Fuzeblock, which will in turn off all your "switched" accessories connected to the Fuzeblock.

Whereas, when connecting to the Brown/Blue wire (the battery side of that fuse) you'll still have a power signal to the Fuzebock switched wire, and hence all your accessories will continue to have power.

Why would you want to add any ambiguity at all to which way you intend to turn - or not turn to car drivers that are already trying their best to kill you.Much better to fit some white spot lights.

In the BMW world they are called "Cruising Lights" and are no doubt an extra cost £££ option for your GS, but this reviewer says what @fazersharp mentioned, that with just a quick glance a cager could think you are signalling to turn.  Mmmm. May have to rethink this option :-(

General / Fitting "always on" indicators
« on: 17 January 2023, 12:41:41 am »
Hi All,

I'm noticing more and more new bikes that seems to be running the front amber turn signal lights as "always on" running lights.

So I am in the process of fitting new bulbs and holders to my FZS1000. I considered doing something clever with relays etc, but in the end am planning just to fit 21W/5W bulbs, and have the 5W light permanently on, being powered from a feed off the nearby existing side-lights which are part of the main headlight unit. The 21W light will continue to function as regular indicator. Both will share the same earth lead for the negative return.

Does anyone know if this is road legal?  On testing there is still a distinct flash coming from the 21W element which can be seen clearly over the always on 5W element.  It is the same solution as the Fazers's rear lights that run 5W tail-lights and 21W brake lights in the same bulb.

Any thoughts?

Fazer Simon.

PZRacing GearTronic Zero Gear Indicator Yamaha 2004 FZS1000 Fazer | eBay

I went with the PZRacing version a few years back.

It is semi plug and play, as you'll have to join one wire into wiring for the speed sensor, but it is all very straight forward, with all the connectors and decent instruction supplied. All the connections are under the right-hand panel below the seat.

I fitted the indicator onto an angled bracket attached to the top mounting bolt for the dials, so that is sits just above the speedo, between the dials and the screen.

Yes, I wondered about whether the UK regulations might affect this, but I note since 2020, UK BMW GS's can option a similar feature. Albeit the indicators are slightly dimmed when operating as running lights.

See examples here: https://youtu.be/_1BM3ypE4KI

I'll probably abandon this idea then, in favour of separate running lights, but am stuck on mounting ideas on the Fazer Thou. I don't really want them on the forks, and that doesn't leave many other options?

Hi All,

Do you think it is possible to convert the standard Fazer indicator lights to be "always on" like daylight running lights, and then for them to flash as usual when activated from the standard turn switch?

Cheers for any help / ideas.

Simon.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / EXUP Question
« on: 24 January 2019, 06:09:24 pm »

What are the two bolts on the opposite side of the exhaust from the EXUP cover-plate for?

They are located behind where the internal bush of the EXUP valve is situated.

Thanks

Simon.
