Rear Hugger - Zip Ties?
« on: 02 October 2013, 12:48:56 pm »
Hi,

I have a 2000 model FZS600 which, despite an accident earlier in the year (old lady not looking + dual carriageway +rain = slide down road) I absolutely love it! I am however on a budget but want to do it up.

Anyway, so I bought a rear hugger from a breakers on ebay for pretty cheap but when it arrived it turned out it didn't come with a mounting bracket. Fair enough, it was cheap and the buy from ebay didn't say it had one so no issue there. I did ask them if the had the bracket for sale but apparently the hugger had previously been held on using zip ties on the one side.

My question is, if i use the bolts on the chain side of the swing arm, do you think it would be ok to use zip ties through the other side and round the swing arm?

Would be great if someone could help on this, it's hard doing the bike up on a budget and i'm pretty new to all things motorcycles so any advice is appreciated.

Will try to post pics of it soon  :)

Mine has a zip tie on it (yellow on a black bike for some odd reason?)

I wouldnt.
I have a hugger and just recently removed it to proper clean the chain guard part of it. I also removed the bracket that you have not got so I could paint it. It fits under the rear brake hose guide that sits ontop of the swingarm.
Why dont you make one. Undo brake line loupe bracket bolt - slide under your bracket and use same bolts.
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.

Hi fazersharp,

I'd considered making one, but can't think of an easy way to do that. Wouldn't it really need to be made out of metal?

I'll have a look though, going to take a proper look again on Friday so maybe i'll get a flash of inspiration as to how to do so.

Thanks

We had a discussion a while back, about the fact that not all huggers are the same, and fit differently.
They definitely aren't standard!

Er ---yes. Every good bike diy er should have loads of bits and bobs -metal - flat(bend it) angle (adapt it )

red98, if you could post a pic that would be awesome. I appreciate it might not be the same model, but any kind of an idea what it might look like would help.

Think i'll probably be heading back to my old mans to take advantage of his garage and tools then. Can't say I have an abundance of spare metal.. yet  ;)

Bracket looks virtually identical to mine too, including the corrosion
