Title: Oil pump chain slack fzs 1000
Post by: kilofazer on 18 June 2017, 08:06:46 pm
Recently I did some maintenance with chlutch, and after removing cluch basket I have seen that oil pump drive chain is very slack. Is it normal or I have to replace it?

The chain in the old R1 always seems to run a bit on the loose side and the FZS1000 is more or less the same engine, I would be surprised if there was an issue with it at that low mileage.

Hi
I'm about to strip down the clutch as it's time for new plates etc (not helped by the fact I slip the clutch and can't get out of the habit..) and to figure out why the clutch action is so heavy (cable's fine).
Any tips or is it straight forward?
Thank you

Are you sure the cable is fine, I replaced mine recently, it felt fine when free but under load it felt like a very heavy clutch.
The difference with a new cable was amazing.
You could even have clutch slip if cable is bad enough, I would be inclined to change the cable first just to be sure.

Checking out my cable afterward changing it, the in side of the sheath had raveled just above the centre cable adjuster.

Technically there is no real reason for the clutch to become very heavy after such low mileage.

Clutch is reasonably straight forward, but it does have a number of different friction plates and steel plates, ensure they go in the correct position.order.
Use a torque wrench to tighten the clutch spring bolts (8Nm) as they can easily strip the threads in the clutch boss if over tightened.

Think it's ok as I fitted what was meant to be a super slippy one and then once fitted and found the lever still to be heavy so disconnected one end of it to check that it wasn't dragging or badly routed and it seemed fine.

Think the probs are with the slots the plates sit in and they may need dressing with a file or renewing. Saw another post about the plates overheating and suggestions of drilling holes in the basket - don't think that's yet my problem!
Thx for your advice.
