Help!!! Exup cable routing
« on: 01 March 2013, 04:24:39 pm »
Took my bike to bits at the end of  last year to repaint the engine and adjust some marginal valve clearances.  Now I can not work out the correct routing for the Exup cables. I have studied both the factory manual and the Haynes manual with little help.  Can anyone please describe/photograph the route please.  Current I run up to the platic frame mounted loop on the right hand side of the frame at the top. :o

Yup

With the petrol tank off> starting from the exup servo the cables from left to right> then flush along the right hand frame rail> then down the back of the right hand side of the airbox cover (the one with the 3 bolts> then down the back of the engine between it and the frame/swingarm> then through a small metal loop thats welded to the frame> then connect the ends of the cable to the exup valve pulley.

Take care to make sure through out the routing process not to cross over the cables, this will make the final connection to the pulley much less problematic.

Do the cables go above or below the top engine mounting?

I assume the metal loop is the one that two draion pipes fit through.

  • I assume the metal loop is the one that two drain pipes fit through.

  • If you mean the rear engine mounting, from memory they go above it, between it and the frame.
  • I maybe wrong, I think there is a second loop on the opposite side to the drain pipes and the exup cables go through it etc.

:\   Bit too late for this one .. but for any future jobs .. here is a simple workshop trick to consider.

Whenever the removal of a cable (or maybe a wire) is required .. attach a long length of strong string to one end Before pulling the cable out.   Leave the string in place to show you the return trip course to steer  8) .

More than one cable .. mark them and their Individual Strings before removal .. so you can identify each one for sure as required .. left & right, front & rear, or as with Exup Cables top & bottom.
