Cost to spray fuel tank

Anybody got an idea what I should be paying to have a fuel tank sprayed?  I believe it's deep purplish blue metalic C (i.e. blue), two stage plus lacquer.  Would need a small dent fixing to.


Any recommendations in Derbyshire?

In same dilemma after my last off too. Was wondering as a further side note if the tank off any other Fazers would fit the fzs600 (and look any good). E.g. tank off fz6 or thou?

I'm pretty sure the thou one won't without some modification as I believe it is slightly longer (as well as being a different shape) and the mounting isn't exactly the same

I paid a spray place £80 just to paint a front fender.......prob a little bit high but i got it done.


Need my bellypan sprayed black next year so will hunt around a little bit more but if i have to for out another £80 then so be it.


Id say £150 for a tank....only based on my own ideas of what a job is worth.

I can appreciate the craftsmanship required and therefore the high cost of this sort of thing... but I can never bring myself to pay for it and generally opt to try and learn how to do this stuff myself :P I have my whole 600 to sort eventually

£200 in one colour and 2 pack lacquer is about right if it has no dents. £80 for a mud guard is about right too. A lot people that don't spray think it's a lot of money to pay. You can do it cheaper if you use a rattle can but you won't get the same results and after a few months your paint work will look shite. I recently sprayed an R1 mud guard for my Fazer, cut corners because it was mine and a year later it looks a pile of crap that has crazed on the sides. There's a lot of work that goes into spraying a tank and if dents aren't sorted correctly they will show through after painting. It is very time consuming and the work that's involved isn't always cost effective for the sprayer... Think minimum wage and for the love of it. Trust me.

Helmets are another story altogether. Intricate lines and designs take a lot of masking and rubbing down between coats and I'd say than 80% of a job is usually dusty rubbing down, cleaning, masking and cleaning out air brushes with only 20% actually spraying.

So when someone gives you a quote for a job it is at an often a reduced price to get the work. I don't know about other people but when you touch one of my paint jobs or my helmet  it is smooth to the touch and you won't be able to feel the layers of paint under the lacquer.

Well those pics kosmic, caused me a spooky feeling of coincidence!! My first name is Clayton and I very rarely come across it. But then when I saw your helmet my mums maiden name was Barnard!!  What are the odds of seeing 2 names on 2 custom helmets in a single post!

The original design won a 'Design your helmet competition' run by Autosport magazine some 25+ years ago when I raced go karts... cripes that makes me sound old  . It was painted on a Simpson that was the prize for the competition by a man called Mike Fairholme who, back then, painted a lot of F1 helmets. Since then most of my lids have carried that or a similar design.

I'm glad you like it. Means the design has stood the test of time.

@ Kosmic,  no I believe my grandad originated from Gillingham, Kent. Most of that side of my family has been in Hampshire for the last 40+ years

Kosmic , fantastic work, I have a mate out here in Spain (Airbrushshack.es) who like yourself is truely talented. He did me a Joey Dunlop replica really made up with it. We nearly fell out though over the price, all he wanted was a €100.00. Me arguing that I was a mate not a charity case, I still felt like a cheap skate when I shoved €150.00 down his throat. He tries to avoid doing helmets for the very reason you say, very very time consuming.

I do all my own spraying, I refuse to do any other work because in my experience people always want something for nothing
