Paint Job
« on: 26 May 2015, 09:38:51 am »
Ok. At risk of being bombarded with suggestions like "what about a nice shade of hedgerow green" etc, I want to get a custom job done on the latest bike. I had thought about copying the last one, still really like that, but want to consider what else might be nice. I don't like murals, not overly keen on metallic colours, like retro-ish styles, bright colours especially when contrasted against dark. Got any pics of bikes where the style might fit the Fazer?

Don't really mind the banter bit, but would actually quite welcome some more serious responses too, if that's at all possible. Ta.

A serious thread on FOCU........think iam in the wrong place  :lol

yellow speed block on the hedge trimmer, your last bike, now thats moved on I can say I liked that one...so, how about a search on the interweb for some gp bikes of the 70's - 80's, I thinking of a kenny roberts rep without the full bodywork....
One step further than the hedgetrimmer MK1

better still........paint it RED.......  :lol
One, is never going to be enough.....

If it's going to be KR influenced, I think I'd just have a repeat of the last one. Everybody liked that one Paul; they were all just jealous  ;) Seriously ( :rolleyes), I got so many complimentary comments on that one.

My favourite combination was always black and red (still love the Kwak 750 Turbos for that), which is why I always thought the Lava Red was the best standard colour on the thou. Luke had one done for someone else recently in black and red, that I thought looked really good, but don't just want to copy that. Doesn't have to be black and red though, if something else captures my imagination, which has been sorely lacking of late; hence this thread.

Might be a little prize in it for a suggestion that gets my vote  ;)

No, I don't have a safe with mystery contents  :lol

Am I the only one who thinks its a bit bonkers to buy the nicest colour of fazer and then to respray it?

Just being honest Nick mate, why not just tweak what ya got rather than a full blown respray? Like you did with the yellow one you just got rid of.

Failing that, why not go red/white or red/silver in a sort of agostini style?

That white Fazer looks fantastic, I think it wouldn't quite suit a black frame and engine though. I would go for something classy but subtle like that myself, only bit that may be a bit ott are the wheels but even then I think I quite like them. No camo paint jobs or grim reapers or purple cobra scales with flourescent green wheels and screen. All these nice fazer thous are making me interested, I need to get my 6 back on the road!!!

I would say..... Don't paint it,  keep it standard and with the money you save plus what you can get for your other bike, get yourself a thumping supermoto, something that you can have as much fun on the twisties with, will be more forgiving on pot holed roads with all that suspension travel and if you do happen to bin it,  will take the knocks better than a Fazer would.

I agree with above and as a potential extension; why not offer swaps for someone who wants your colour scheme and get theirs resprayed? (Dibs!) You could probably get a few quid out of someone as well since its a rare colour scheme to add to your custom paint pot

All i would say on this is that it kinda defeats the purpose of buying a known mint bike if Nick ends up with older parts, albeit sprayed but then they become more of an unknown and not quite so mint as a whole.

Im still in the camp of if the actual question was should i spray or not then id say dont do it but since the question is directly relating to which scheme then i respect Nicks complete madness :lol

One of my favourite paint schemes is the cb1300, maybe you could adapt that for a fazer.

I seem to remember the old cb1100r from the early 80 s was similar and always looked smart.......anyway 3 2 1 back in room. If a retro type colour scheme is to be used should it be a speed block or lc ticks or whatever they were called yam colour scheme be more appropriate than a Honda one? I guess ultimately it's all about personal preference.

I agree it's the best original colours Mick. But I'm now thinking it doesn't look quite right. With an all red tank, black fairing and tail unit with red stickers, it looks like they didn't give it that much thought, doesn't quite all tie in.

It's a 3 grand bike at best. I didn't buy it with an eye to resale, but to use. Who knows, maybe it too will take a fancy to hedges one day  :lol
It's not important to me to keep it absolutely pristine. I just want it right for me. This may well be my last Fazer, certainly the last one I throw money at. It's like buying an older Jap classic, Z650, GS1000, Z1 etc. Whilst it's nice to look at a mint original in a museum or show, that's not what it's about for me. I'd have to mod it up in the way that folks did back then, to make it handle better, go better, look better in my eyes. It's just a little project to get it how I want it (or rather, for Luke to get it how I want it  :lol ). And as to this being a rare colour, I've seen nothing but this colour since I bought this one  :rolleyes

Not seen a custom colour scheme that grabs me yet. I do have one idea, but not certain about it yet. It might now have to wait a while anyway, but still looking. Difficult to come up with something that fits the Fazer's lines.
