Sorry but those end cans have to go, it's just wrong, we invaded iraq for smaller looking weapons!
Good colour choice though.
As for username it would have to be 'Kwak in black' sung to the acdc tune.

Be careful what fluid is used in an ultrasonic tank, I use a bio-diesel injector cleaner fluid in an ultrasonic tank at work and it's great with aluminium but bike carbs tend to be die cast with a lot of zinc in them, it turns black in our tank, brass jets go pink if left too long as well as it takes the zinc out of them too.
I did a set of Z650 carbs and had to beadblast the black off of them and try and blow all the shattered beads and dust out from the passages, hopefully it hasn't left them too brittle or porous.

« on: 29 October 2011, 04:54:43 pm »
I measured my sprocket nut and found it to be 9mm thick so spoken to the local dealer and ordered a new nut/washer, It doesn't sound like yamaha are going to pay for it but at under £9 I'd rather replace it with a new one and not have the hassle of a buggered gearbox.
They said they were not aware of a problem but did have a fazer in last week with a clutch gone(according to AA), clutch stipped down to find no problem so they took the sprocket cover off, no nut! what a surprise.
I've left them a print off of the post about it but I don't suppose I will get my money back.

Mk1 escort 1100, totally rotten so chopped it up and put the engine and gearbox in a mk1 estate that I got for £30, didn't have engine but it had 6 months mot left on it  :) , went on to pass another one too  :eek   eventually rebuilt a 2 door mk1 saloon and dropped a 1700 x flow in it, went like feck!
Went through loads of other heaps of junk in a series of swaps and cheap deals till finally got round to passing a bike test, even owned anal aggro estate with automatic gearbox once  :o , it was the biggest heap of crap ever invented, I got conned into owning it by selling a set of electric windows for £50 only find out it was £50 and the car he was offering, still managed to sell it for good money though :) .

I have now changed the oil and filter which was straight forward and next the Gear box oil .
If you changed the oil and filter you've already changed the gearbox oil, it's the same oil.

Just fitted downpipes from sandy bike spares and stubby tailpipe from delkevic, looks and sounds great, fitted like a glove, less than 45 minutes and it's running and sounding good (admittedly I'd already removed the old exhaust last night).
Well chuffed!

Fucked if I'd change a wheel for a fatty!
Thats not very PC is it, you're supposed to say "I'd like to help but you look like you need the exercise" :evil

On a more serious note I've worked with lots of blokes that will do every bit of overtime offered purely on the grounds of 'or she'll earn more than I do' which I always thought was pretty dumb when a bit of pride swallowed means you can work shorter hours and spend more time together (in the pub spending her wages) and enjoy life more.
I like a woman that can (or even can't but will try) to fix things rather than just whinging to a bloke about it, good on you Anne for checking your tappets, when you're done can you check mine for me as I'm lazy as well as fat/bald/old/drunk.

Like what he said!
Oh yes and almost bald (without the balls to ditch the last remenents of a pony tail), getting a bit fat, the wrong side of 40, with buggered knees, and farts and belches when drunk (and sober for that matter),thats a real man!
But then I am biased... :o

I must work on my chat up lines...  :lol

Some of those boaty piccies make my 10 knots maximum feel a little bit inadequate :lol

It's an old RLM 31 with a pair of 1.9 pug diesels in and fits the money pit description far too well.
It does know how to find beer though...

The fuse has blown for a reason, something has shorted so don't just put a bigger fuse in it (or wrap it in foil) :lol

I'd be tempted to turn the fuel off and let it run out so the carbs are not full of crud in spring(either by running or through float bowl drain screws), modern fuel leaves some horrible gunge behind when it evaporates.
Make sure it's been properly up to temp before storing, if you just fire it up and run it for a few minutes it will sit full of condensation all winter and rot.

I'm paying carol nash £170 for my xt600 and they wanted £48 to add the fazer on the same policy, valued at £1000 & £1500 respectively, thats for fully comp.

I have a pdf manual but it's not a haynes one, not sure of the origin, may be original yamaha,I'll email it to you.

Edit: Change of plan, I've uploaded it to my website, download from http://www.leomagill.co.uk/fazer.zip
It's about 12Mb with the supplements for the later models, help yourself.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: How to remove fuel tank (without spilling fuel!)
« on: 20 October 2011, 07:31:32 am »
I've had mine off when full too, no problem, I'll just echo the bit about turning the fuel back on again as it's too easy to get carried away and bolt it all up without doing it.

I guess you could go all posh and use a special tool for the job, whats it called now, oh yes it's a plug socket! :lol

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Plug Spanner/socket
« on: 18 October 2011, 05:13:18 pm »
I used a deep socket and short extension on a ratchet, 5/8" was the socket I think, if theres any crap around the plugs blow it out first or it will drop into the pots when you take the plugs out.

As long as you disconnect the battery and the ignitor from the loom you should be able to put a nut over the stud and weld the two together without causing any problems, run the engine till hot or use a heatgun/blowtorch to get the aluminium hot and the stud should come out ok.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: standard rear sprocket size?
« on: 16 October 2011, 11:57:08 am »
10 teeth is a big jump, it will make acceleration very sluggish and probably won't be able to pull 6th gear, I'd try 1 tooth extra on the front as the sprocket will be cheaper and you won't need to shorten the chain, 1 tooth on the front is about equal to 3 teeth off the rear.
If the engine can't reach the rpm it can't produce the bhp.

48 & 15 are standard sprocket sizes.
