Got my K-Tech springs in, they are linear so not progressive like the std ones. K-tech recommended 10w oil with 145mm air gap so thats whats been put in.

The old oil was GREY and STANK. On initial impressions it seems much better. Not so much diving when breaking and soaking up the bumps better.

Well I went 1 off the front and 1 on the back.  Like poop off a scoop now and revs still ok as I don't do over a ton usually.

No need to change down for overtakes.

Speedo reads about 11% out. Reads 90 when doing 80 on satnag GPS. So a speedohealer needed to sort but living with it as is for now.

Got a message back from k-tech about their recommendation.

Good quality 10w oil with 145mm air gap.

Well it was only a curiosity thing with me being down at Squires. I only got a bit flustered when he started going on about changing jets.
As it now seems it was a false alarm I am going to stay well clear of dyno's from now on. :rolleyes

You'll need a pukka 90 deg carb adjustment 'driver to get at the mixture screws, Ian.  Not cheap if you don't have one already.

Best advice - not mine originally but I use it frequently - is 'ride more, worry less' :)

I don't have a special adjustment screwdriver so I will cross that of the list of things to do. Which will give me more time to stick to the advice.

Jordan's in Leeds.

Thanks Mike, While I am doing a service I will give the mixture screws a 1/4 turn. :)

I didn't realise that there could be such large variations down to the dyno/operator. As long as I am doing no damage running it as it is then I may leave it as it is.
I don't see the point of travelling to another dyno and throwing money at it for  5bhp or so.

I will do a service, change the plugs and providing it's not doing any harm as it is, then leave it at that.

Just goes to show curiosity and no knowledge can get you into trouble. If it wasn't for all the great people on here I might of went down a path of fixing something that isn't really broken.

I just expected the horses to be in the 130 to 135 range and wasn't expecting any mixture issues.

129.42 is pretty close. Add in a correction factor and you're there.

A can is a can is a can. Changing it for another open race can won't make a whole heap of beans but you'll spend some money and feel better.

A nice carbon end tri-oval silencer would look nice !!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe an oil change, new plugs and exup service will help. Also got new chain and sprockets so I will re-check the chain tension.

New can might be an option in the future but for a few horses it's not an immediate option. More of a visual upgrade.

I didn't think the bike was running bad but I happened to be at Squires so went along out of curiosity as it was only a fiver. I just expected the horses to be in the 130 to 135 range and wasn't expecting any mixture issues.

Wow, opened a can of worms here.

To be honest I thought 3 sizes on mains seemed a lot as the bike runs ok and if it was 3 sizes lean I would have expected some problems.

Exup has not been serviced recently but was working when Mike had a quick look at it last year. Mike also balanced the carbs last year. Plugs have been in for about 3000miles. Oil and filter done last year, 2000miles ago.

My Simmi silencer doesn't have a db killer in but still is not really loud.

It was a special offer quick run session.

I will scan the sheet and send it to you Mike. The mixture graph is on a small side
on the bottom so not easy to read

« on: 06 May 2012, 01:57:54 pm »
My fazer had the full monty Ivan treatment done by Mike last year and to be honest my bike didn't seem to be a lot different. I don't know if I was expecting too much, although it was much smoother on cold start with the choke.

I got the opportunity to have my bike tested at Jordan's dyno in Leeds yesterday. The results were 129bhpat the back wheel (which I think is about std without Ivan kit) and lean fuelling right accross the range. The tester advised that I needed bigger jets between 3 and 5 sizes bigger.

1. I suspect that my Simmi silencer may not be helping the available horsepower so which silencer gives the best horsepower increase or works well with the Ivan full monty kit.

2. Is Mike on this forum or coming to the uk this year. Or are there any recommended places to get my carb jetting altered in the North East as Jordans in Leeds wants £150 for re jetting and they are also 90 miles away from me.

Thanks guys, my Haynes lists the oil as 5w so maybe I will go with that or 7w. I will look into the kayaba oils too.

Hi all, Since I got my R6 shock converion last year which is amazing, my front forks have felt even worse. I have looked into full rebuilds with cartridges and at the other end of the price range, Hagon springs.
For the mileage and riding I do I have decided to buy K-Tech springs so I can specify spring weight and new oil and seals. I really fancied the fully monty cartridge conversion but there coming in at £480 ish and that's a whole lot of wonga and tbo I don't think I need it for my 'steady away' making progress style.
The big question is, while I am keeping the standard forks with upgraded springs for my weight/style. Which grade oil should I use.
Standard is 5w, but some people say thinner as damping is slow on standard, others say thicker. Some say standard oil level some say a bit more oil.

Is there any others out there that have tinkered with the oil as they have been on a budget/ being pragmatic.

I have an HTC sensation running android. It came with google navigation but this needed a constant connection so was no good in bad signal areas.

I bought  copilot, it downloads on to the phone so no internet connection needed, also has multiple destination route so I use it for work. if you stick all your destinations in it will even give you a best route option. You can play with the speed limits and road priorities to get more accurate destination times.

Also has alternate route options and a drag route option. Pretty good good really, gives the odd daft route so like any satnag it's always better to check the route before setting off.

Ian-man where did you get the bellypan for the 600 from????

Sorry mate, can't help you. It was on the bike when I bought it and it had no labels on I could see. Someone more knowledgeable on here might reckognise it.

They are quite light compared to the steel ones. Not had a ride with them yet so can't say how much extra vibes you'll get.

Here they are fitted.

Here's mine. Picked it up yesterday after being off the road for about 6 months due to an injury. Paint is fresh, but the rest of the bike needs a little cleaning up. New seat amongst many other new bits on their way soon For now, I'm just chuffed to be back riding again  :)

Nice paint job.

My steel bar ends were scuffed and rusty and I fancied a bit tasteful bling. However some nice polished aluminium or stainless bar ends seemed a bit pricey. Found these polished aluminium items. Ordered from an American company and arrived via Taiwan!

About £13 including postage, fitted straight on.

There is a place called 'Reactive Suspension' north of York who is good. A lad at my 'ivanising' day had his done.

Rode down, bloke stripped his forks, renewed bushes where needed, seals, oil and new internals and springs for rider weight. Back together and set up for sag, rebound etc. Rode home again.

I used 'optiglanz' from Heine Gericke to take the straw tarnish off then 'autosol' to polish up.
