For Sale & Wanted / FZS1000 Givi Rack & Box for sale NOW SOLD
« on: 14 February 2015, 08:04:02 pm »
I have a Givi rack, plate and box for a Fazer 1000.  These are in very good condition and the box comes complete with the inner bag.  I'm after £100 for them.  Due to the bulky nature they will need to be collected.  I'm in the West London Heathrow area.

For Sale & Wanted / FZS1000 For Sale - SOLD
« on: 02 February 2015, 10:00:06 am »
For Sale – FZS1000 in Silver Tech.  First registered May 2005. 6,500 miles.  Serviced less than 500 miles ago with all fluids changed.  BT023’s with less than 1,500 miles on them.  The bike is running a Scorpion carbon fibre end can and has been Ivanised by Mike.  It is fitted with Yamaha accessory engine bars and will also come with the original end can, Yamaha accessory rack and a spare oil filter.  I have a dyno graph from last year showing 125 BHP and near perfect fuelling.  (Nice one Mike!)  The MOT expires in Feb so I’ll put a new one on it for the new owner.  It just needs to be ridden.  I’m asking £2,800 for it.

I am located in the West London / Heathrow area.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Going from 2 bikes to one
« on: 26 January 2015, 10:07:55 am »
It's a 2005 machine with 6,000 miles on it.  Recently serviced, it's wearing Bridgestones (BT023's I think) with less than 1,000 miles on them and, of course, Ivanised by Mike. (Slip-on kit)  O/E Yamaha rack, Givi rack, original exhaust and spare oil filter will all be included.

Docs just gone off the DVLA for the registration change.  I'll have to do some research on values as I have not put much thought to that yet.  I hope to get reasonable money for it, I have looked after it well and it needs nothing other than to be ridden.

After much consideration I will be putting the Fazer 1000 up for sale soon.  I have always owned more than one bike and a couple of years ago I picked up a 1200RT when Kate started touring with me.  I love the Fazer but I am just not riding enough to justify keeping two bikes.  I am currently transferring my personal plate off the bike and, once that is done, I'll stick it up in the for sale section so keep an eye out if you are after a nice example.

I have a set of Scott Venom two-piece leathers which I really like.  I have fabric kit as well but leather just feels better.

I have ABS and traction control on my 1200RT.  I might not have considered them as separate options but they were included on the spec of bike and I have been grateful for them on a couple of occasions.  When you need them you'll be very happy that they are there.

I used them on my old VFR800.  Well made and fitted without any issues.

My thinking is that if the bike is worth say 3k and this check  will cost me 500 I might be better off selling it as paying 1/6th of its original value on 1 sevice doesn't seem economic in comparison toliquidating the value and buying something that doesn't (yet) need that level of expenditure - the 'economic man' in me coming out I think! Hoever the anecdotal evidence seems to say that as long as oil and filters are looked after the valves seem to look after themselves.......at 3k v 500 I think I might take the risk.
[/quote]

As a long term policy I am not sure this pans out.  The additional losses on regularly buying and selling bikes based only on whether they need an expensive service will be added to the risk factor of buying a machine that well have unknown faults that could also be expensive.  If you have decent bike that you know to be in good condition just bite the bullet and look after it.  Even the effects of depreciation are reduced by longer term ownership.  Its a win-win situation.

The best ones I have ever used are BMW's. Trouble is, you'll have to buy the rest of the bike too!!   :rollin

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Fazer Service
« on: 19 December 2014, 02:02:12 pm »
I understand that the valve clearances at the first check at 24k miles often show that no change is necessary so if that's the case (and I do understand that this may not be a cast iron thing for all fazers) it's a dubious spend for a machine that in my case cost 3k when I bought it.......I guess that the key thing is you'll never know whether you need it until you have it done in which case you've spent it anyway - bummer!

I have always tried to separate the consideration of machine value and servicing costs.  If your bike is a good'un then keep it so by looking after it.  Besides, the point of servicing is to keep the bike running well so that it is safe and enjoyable to ride.  Bikes will depreciate in value (or most will at least) with age but does that mean that it is any less of a bike.  ie Would you only spend on servicing while there is a high residual value in the bike?  No, it doesn't make sense.

For Sale & Wanted / Re: For Sale FZS1000

Never have a bmw without a warranty...

I have had my R1200RT for almost two years (from new) and never had a single issue with it.  It is every bit as reliable as my FZS1000.

Your comparing a brand new specification BMW with low miles? with an old specification Yamaha with high miles?;
Interesting comparsion  :lol

That'll be because, on here anyway, the Fazer is the benchmark for most.  Also, I have had the Fazer for almost eight years so it has the longer track record with me and if the BMW is a good to me has my FZS1000 has been then I will be a very happy man.  As three bikes won't fit into my garage I sold my '98 VFR800 when I picked up the RT - now that bike was a legend!

I have a 2010 1200RT as well as my Gen 1 Fazer thou.  Wouldn't part with either of them :-))  They are both stonking bikes.

I am not so sure they ever were.  A lot of riders have had full on sports tyres fitted in the mistaken belief that they give more grip.  On the road for even brisk riders this rarely proves to be the case.  Tyres need to be at the correct temperature to offer full grip and a sports tyre both takes longer to heat up and looses heat quicker and therefore you never get the best out of it.  it most cases, for road, work, a sports-touring tyre is the best choice.  You get better grip and better mileage.  Most sports tyres will give poorer grip in most road riding situations and will not last long - but they will give you bragging rights down the pub and perhaps some hero-worship from those that do no know better  :rollin

Yep, I have an RD250B in 1979.  Picked it up on my 17th birthday.  After the Fs1e the performance was mind blowing  :rollin

General / Re: Breakdown cover
« on: 29 October 2014, 11:14:00 am »
Add up all the premiums that you have paid for breakdown cover over the years.  If you had put that into a separate fund I bet you would have enough to pay for multiple incidents of roadside assistance and/or recovery.

At the risk of sounding like a hypocrite I do use breakdown cover but only when I am on overseas trips where the cost of recovery in the event of a serious mechanical failure would be considerable but I would not have it for UK the only.

At the moment I don't have any as my 1200RT is still under BMW warranty which includes Europe-wide coverage and that is my touring machine but if the FZS1000 ever went to Europe I would cover it.  On that subject I do feel a bit guilty - I have owned the Fazer for nine years now and never taken it on a Euro-jaunt.  I think it deserves to see some Spanish sunshine.  (My previous touring machine was a '98 VFR800 until my girlfriend started coming with me - hence the change to the RT)

How about £30?  You're a bit far away to pick them though :-0

Hi Guys,

I have a few bits available for the Gen1 Fazer 1000.  I'll be sticking them on Ebay at the weekend but thought I would offer them here first.

I have a set of Givi arms, plate and an E360 top case complete with inner bag.  These are in very good used condition. I also have a set of original Yamaha engine protectors / rollers that are in very good condition.

I am keeping the Fazer but also have an R1200RT so the top case never gets used as the RT is first choice for trips away.  The engine protectors I picked up some time ago in the hope that I would also be able to track down an original Yamaha belly pan.  (I have engine bars but the belly pan will not fit with these)  As I have given up on finding a belly pan there is little point in hanging onto the rollers.

I am located close to Heathrow and would prefer collection in person as both items are bulky/heavy and postage will be expensive.

I am open to offers.  The Givi box alone is over 180 quid new so I hope to get close to 200 for the box and fittings.
