KZ Seat Help
« on: 19 June 2014, 03:12:25 pm »

Posted in general as not a Fazer, but could use some of your technical expertise.

I've got a KZ440 (G1 I believe). Anyway, the frame is the same shape as this image below.

I'm trying to work out how to design the seat for a brat style bike. I quite like these bikes and seat styles but can't see how I can make it fit with my frame.

I am 6'4 so I don't mind the seat being stepped up a bit (more area to house battery, better riding position for me) but only if it fits with the overall look of the bike.

I'm just after some advice from you guys on what you think, and how I might be able to achieve it.

EDIT: I must add I'm not willing to cut the frame, except to detab it - I don't want to modify the frame for a seat to fit, I want to use the frame as it is now.

Thanks in anticipation.

EDIT 2: This one looks similar to my frame.

I hadta cut that high bit Orf the back that the mudguard bolts into, then put clinch bolt inserts into the frame to fix the muddie, couldn't get anything but a stepped seat on with it there

So have you got a custom seat yet? Any chance I could see?

I'm not fussed about the mud guard anyway, it's going the journey.

Cheers mate, very helpful that. Thanks for the offer of the seat too, but I think I've decided (for now) what to do.

I think this one will be easy to do on my frame, and I really like the way it looks. A bit of alloy sheeting, a bit foam, and leather and job done. Any ideas on the best way to detab the frame (and get rid of that mount the rear mudguard attaches to)? I was thinking angle grinder as close as possible without marking the frame, then some good old hard graft with a file? What did you do?

Good idea, that top frame tube follows the same bend as yours too..

Yup angle grinder and file..I used them really thin blades you buy in a pack of ten in a round tin, very quick cut through and minimum heat/ mess.

Cheers mate. Still a long long way off - just trying to get the seat design down now before I start pulling tabs off (as known my luck I'll pull one which I needed).

Lol at least it's easy enough to mig one back on mate.
Been useing my mig for years without really understanding how to get the best out of it...going on a paint course at paint my ride in Richmond so I can finish my bikes and my sons, they do a one day mig welding course too so may as well sign up for that while I'm up there, learn how to do it properly.
