Ignition Leads not staying put !
« on: 15 July 2013, 10:52:59 am »
Hi,

Where the top seal part of the ignition leads mount into the top part of the spark plug tube they are not all staying in place.

I can push them down and completely seat them in place by hand but next time I look at them 2 or 3 are always hovering above their seated position.  :eek

It is not affecting engine operation.

Any tips on how to get them to stay in place would be great  :lol

You should screw plug caps onto leads, not push. Try trimming plug leads a little (making sure beforehand that you will still have the length to reach the caps without having the leads stretched so tight that they pull at the caps), then screw the caps onto the leads (not leads into caps). Can't understand how having them hovering above the caps doesn't affect running! :\
Or do you mean plug caps are not staying in place? If so, replace the caps with new - they do sometimes lose their grip over time once they've been on & off a few times. And still can't understand how running alright with plug caps effectively off!! :\ :\

You do have to push the caps (not leads :)) down very firmly and you should hear a series of clicks as the clip in the cap rides over the thread on the plug itself.  Which leads to the next thought ... you haven't put the screw-on fitting on top of the plug, by chance?

Hold the cap just above the part that seals around the plug hole and push it down hard.
