Speedo not working
« on: 04 August 2017, 09:59:50 am »

Hi all,

Next question - my speedo isn't working.  Can someone point me in the direction of the pickup please?

Found a decent thread on the subject, so please ignore this one.

Check the multi-plugs under left headlamp fairing infill panel, all live feeds to clocks & lights go thru these plugs.
Any corrosion or bad connection at all in these plugs will cause a whole load of electrical gremlins, from no lights at all, to flickering clocks, to no speedo etc.

It's a very time consuming job pulling every wire from the plug to clean em up, I stripped/cleaned every plug on my full loom, everything now works mint.

Re: Speedo not working - stuck!

More info - and I'm stuck!

Have continuity from instrument cluster white wire to speed sensor plug white.
4.8v on white at speed sensor plug - sensor disconnected
0v at plug with sensor connected

with instrument console plug disconnected the voltage at the sensor is 4.8v with the sensor connected or not - not switching when bike moved (no centre stand)

I've bought a new (used) sensor, but it's doing the same, which sort of rules the sensor out.

The multiplugs under the infill panel are not corroded.

I'll just put the solution in my case on here in case someone reads it in the future.

I found a fault in the instrument cluster - it smelt of burning circuitry when I opened it.  Suspect this killed the 2nd sensor, as it initially tested ok.

Bought a cheap used set of clocks and another sensor and it now works.
