This is on Saturday. I have no idea who the bloke is. I have no idea if I'm going to get ribbed for mentioning Ho**a or not. It appeared on my facebook feed so I thought I'd pass it on. They're doing test rides (CBR600RR) , clearance Helmets, signings from whoever this bloke is and ...stuff. All I know is that someone might use this as an excuse for a ride. http://www.granthamhondabikes.co.uk/news-events/https://www.facebook.com/GranthamHondaMotorcycles

Before going out check android GPS toggle is turned on. My 1:30 ride out yesterday around Rutland water, Melton and back was completely blank in 'my track's' as I'd forgotten to turn the GPS toggle on. It just displayed an hour and a half of stationary. Class. Wot a dufus.

Just had at least 200 custom bikes ride past on the A4304.
Some really nice custom jobs. Anyone know where they're off to ?

Admins/Whoever (yes that means you) Please can we have a sticky thread asking (prompting) people to put their approximate location in their profile for the member map ?
I'm sure there are loadsa foc'cers who haven't done it for privacy/security reasons (or something else) but even approximate locations are better than no location for badgering people via PM if they want to go on an informally arranged ride out :-)
Simon Ps. I apologise if this is just me and I'll living in a parallel dimension to all you people who don't agree.

Jack Reacher. Not a bad film but a pale shadow/imitation of any of Lee Child's absolutely brilliant, awesome and fantastic books (albeit getting repetitive but still beautifully written), completely losing the insight and narrative. Definitely worth watching in spite of the diminutive church of Scientology follower Tom Cruise and highly involving for the first 2/3 (possibly 4/5) of the film with a good musical score too. A solid 7/10.
I had said that I'd never watch it due to the fact that Tom Cruise is about as polar opposite of the Jack Reacher character as possible, but I did. Lee Childs summed it up I guess "Obviously, Tom Cruise doesn't match the physical description of Reacher in the books... but the movie is not going to match the book anyway. More than that though, which actor does match Reacher physically?"

I, and a few other foc'cers I've spoken to, have come across slow performance and timeout of page loads on the FOC forum (I've surprisingly got it in the wee hours more often than not). Is it possible to have a look at the logs and/or load to understand if it is performance challenged ?
I think there were a few timeouts connecting to the database too.
Soz if it's an imposition.

Having wrecked my fairing I'm trying to understand what the impact/cost/difficulty is in making my FZS naked. Anyone know of any posts/costs associated with this ?

I'm a little confused. Is there any reason why there isn't a stopper to limit the steering angle you can make on the bike ? Why do they allow the steering to move to the point where the handle bars can damage the fuel tank ? Is this to prevent damage to the handle bars in preference to the fuel tank ? (so you can use the bike after a fall ?)

Went to the Leicester Bikesafe course yesterday. It was a great day apart from fcuking my bike up.
The police riders were great. Helpful, understanding, sympathetic and fun. A great laugh. We had the obligatory video and the ride out. The video was actually very good when combined with real life examples and commentary by the instructors.
The ride out was average, mainly due to the speed limits (drat them darned speed limits) and the density of traffic.
Apparently we even get a DVD with some of our riding posted out to us which will be pretty darned cool.
The packed lunch was awesome. 3 sarnies, crisps, chocolate, fruit and a drink. Top notch nosh.
I have no idea how they can afford to do this for £45.
If you haven't been on one, go on one. You won't regret it.

Bought one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290789597574?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 from China as it seemed recommended ( http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,6679.msg62530.html#msg62530) I've used the velcro on my helmet as I'm delaying any permanent attachment until Alexander potentially does a write up on how he did his (learn from the master ;-)) The problem I have is wind noise on the microphone. Any advice ?, just stick tape over it or can I use anything else to muffle it ? I've taken it apart and I'm pondering disconnecting the microphone or perhaps seeing if I can shoehorn a 3.5mm jack in to the back plate with a microphone in the helmet. Ideas ? I would post this in general forum but I'm afraid that I'm spamming the threads too much as it is

Not that I'm argumentative, contentious, difficult or like to have a good "debate" but here is one for you.
How fine is the line between respect for the police and not ?
Background: - I once looked at being a copper but the paperwork, hell the application form, looked like just too much effort (I'm a lazy sod too). I also wondered if it was a thankless job. - I was pulled over and given 3 points for overtaking a car and caravan that was doing 20mph on a clear road because the final part of the maneuver ended on double white lines (darn it). - I was doing 70mph and gaining on a car and moved out to overtake when a jam sandwich was doing 80+mph without any lights on in the outside lane on the way back to the police station at the next roundabout. My view was that since there were no blues n twos I was within my rights to overtake and that the police car should not have been driving over the speed limit anyway. Copper pulled me over tried to tell me off, I gave him a mouthful, and we backed off.
Context: Since I was pulled over I became critical of the police, I've seen no reason to change my view. I frequently see police using excessive speed without any emergency lights and performing what I would call dangerous manoeuvres in 30 mph zones.
I know the police do a good job, I know it's a thankless task, but why are they so intent on making it 'us' and 'them' ? I want to like and respect the police but I just don't.
I'm going on a bikesafe course which is run by bike coppers but I am sure (pretty positive) that I will see these guys in a completely different light to the car based police and the guys and girls that turn up after the horse has bolted.
Conclusion: How can I change my viewpoint ?
I'm sure this could degenerate in to a flame war but I just don't quite understand what changed the beat bobby and the police in to the face of repression to me. I don't see a copper and smile because whenever they look at me I feel as if I'm being judged when I'm not guilty of anything. It's been a long time since I saw a member of the police force smile and have a laugh.
Lets hope the bikesafe course readjusts my perspective.

As a result of my kids I ended up watching this over about 6 days which is never good. However. Just to report that I found it a very enjoyable flick. Somewhat lacking in cohesion which is no surprise given the story line is as convoluted as the original.
The main highlight though was Kate Beckinsale. That girl is a gift. She lights up the film in her usual way playing a beautiful and deadly role. Damn she so fine.
Anyways, a definite 7/10 which is as good as it gets in my book without having an understandable plot. The only exception to this being the truly awesome Monty Python and the holy grail which requires no plot to justify it's 8/10 rating.
Rotten tomatoes eat your heart out, this is all the review you need.

I like android buy it's little things like this that narf me off.
Listening to a bit of the Beatles yesterday via a2dp and my android alarm goes off. Can I turn it off using the headset? Can I hell. I can skip tracks, mute the music, turn the audio volume up and down but the alarm..... It just keeps on trucking.
I had to pull over, take my gloves off, take my phone out and turn the alarm off.
Silly operating system.

AT a balmy 2 degrees I went out for an hour and a half ride today, looking at the snow in the fields and at the side of the road. Got to try out the new bluetooth headset and the head cam that I bought.
Yeah, the headcam didn't work out so well. Spent most of it's time pointing at the ground. Some adjustment required methinks.
Still smiling 6 hours later, it's all good. Thank you Yamaha.

There are some topics I'd like to have quick bookmarks to. Things like cam chain rattle and stuff. It'd be nice if you could have a list of favorite topics you can keep bookmarked for posterity.
Yeah, I could do that in the browser, but it would be handy if it were in-site.

I've never done any mechanics but I'd love to learn to do a complete overhaul/service of the bike and understand how it all works and fits together etc. I am too scared to do stuff like this on my own (I definitely need to have a look at a cam chain). I'm fine with electrics, but nothing involving timing/gaskets/torque/fuel and/or anything that isn't easily fixable
If anyone wants to teach for fun, tea/coffee/biscuits and pocket money (I'm not a cheapskate but I'm not loaded either) I'd love to hear from you.
I'm in Market Harborough.
Cheers Simon
