don't go down this rabbit hole unless you are prepared for a lot of work money and some disappointment   :'( 2000 rsv mille forks and swing arm with RSVR magnesium wheels Ohlins remote reservoir rear shock , R1 2003 rear subframe and Harris single seat unit , rear sets , custom fairing mounts to lower the fairing 40mm and push forward 60mm for clearance on the clip-ons below the top yoke , tyres 120/70 +190/55 this meant a 10mm offset front sprocket and modified cover,  with a modified airbox K&N filter i had 95BHP at the wheel also down to 190kg wet bike is off the road again for more up grades so should be lighter and have a bit moor ommph if i ever get it done  :'(

FZS600 Fazer / Clutch Cable adjustment nightmare
« Last post by grifft18 on 01 June 2024, 09:59:57 pm »

Hi all, having a nightmare with my clutch cable adjustment. Had it all apart recently while doing different jobs, mainly replacing the front sprocket nut.  Come to put it back together, and i can’t seem to get it right, i think i have played too much with the adjuster on the crankcase. Each time I think i’ve got it right , I go for a ride and under hard acceleration it ‘slips’ which i assume is clutch slip due to dodgy cable adjustment.

Yet if I try slacken the cable at the crankcase, it becomes incredibly free / soft, even with the lever adjuster tightened.

How do i get the adjustment at the engine side right? And what’s causing my clutch slip? Thanks in advance

I am hoping for you that the bigger nut that grips more thread will work for you. A note that the blue locking liquid is not the correct one to use, cant remember the code but i think the liquid is a green one

Thanks for the info, will measure the thread all along when I'm swapping the nuts early next week.
I fixed mine by cutting a slot on the shaft and drilled a hole at the end to put a bolt and washer in it. I put what I did in the downloads section, but it seems to be missing.File also explains what else to do to prevent it falling off and stranding you if the fix failsDid this at 71000miles and now 99600miles and had 2 sprocket changes since and thankfully still good.
Message me your email address and I will send the file I put in the downloads to you.

For interest when Yamaha first recognised the sprocket nut problem they told dealers if the thread outside diameter was 17.50 m.m. or greater it was o.k. If less than 17.5 m.m. it needed replacing. The few I've measured in the past were always in the 17.85 to 17.86 range.

My old girl is not as good as that I did think about a light restoration, but I use it all year, so I slapped on some haemorrhoid paint instead
