Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Thoughts and opinions please
« on: 19 August 2012, 09:10:17 pm »
I'm with the others here, sell the Buell (you'll wince when you realise how much it's depriciated but hey ho) spend the cash on the Fazer...Nothing is as good unless you want a dedicated sports bike or dedicated tourer In my humble (oft wrong) opinion. I've just got a, don't laugh, BMW R1200 RT SE which is a better tourer but man it's s..l..o..w. Still my licence is breathing a sigh of relief because I'm geting my biking kicks at legal speeds now  :)

For Sale & Wanted / Fazer 1000 bits MRA GIVI END CAN
« on: 11 August 2012, 10:24:27 am »
Off my 2002 FZS 1000 Fazer
I have for sale the following items which I thought I'd offer here before fleabay gets em

Chrome lightweight End Can (make unknown) £50
MRA flip screen £50 good condition
Rack £25 bit of bubbling of rust coming through
GIVI plate £25 good condition
GIVI topbox £150 takes two helmets and is as new (cost me £239)

All prices will need postage adding, which my good lady will sort as and when because I'm working away at the moment.  Cash on Collection would be ok if you can get 15 miles north of Lincoln.

I no longer have the bike :-( miss it a great deal but will buy another probably in a few years when I can afford one again...I know you all know but just in case someone hasn't cottened on just yet...There is NOTHING on earth that comes close to the Fazer Thou

fill take to bottom of that tube thingy. ride 100 miles. fill tank to bottom of that tube thingy. use litres/gallons used to work out l/mpg. Useful this cos you can see what 100 miles of steady riding is to 100 miles of brisk riding.  Accelerating hard is what uses fuel and at 250 miles to a tank I suspect your not thrashing it away from the lights  etc

« on: 25 May 2012, 06:09:15 am »
K Tech did the work, they were recomended to me by Webbs at Lincoln (local Yamaha dealer).  Pissed off cos I gotta take it all to bits again - just what I wanted in weather like this with a week off work.  :\

I've only recently started to adjust rear suspension since taking my missus on the back so I just didn't know how fine or course the adjustments were - it always felt ok to ride so I just left it alone until then.

Thanks Know your limitations, for confirming what I thought should be happening  :)

Facinating thread guys, will help me  lot one day but, er, you know if you've got a stock shock just come back from being refurbished by a suspension specialist...should you be able to feel any difference between fully in on the compression damping and fully out? because, and you knew this was coming didn't you, mine makes no discernable difference whatsoever  :\ it looks cleaner though :) so it's not all bad I spose

Gonna give em a ring in morning to see what they have to say for themselves.

 solorider!!
Jeez mine were in no way as bad as yours! I'd have gone straight to the blue spanner with them (Burning torch).  Mine were easy apart from one stud shearing, got about 20mm left to play with so not too bad.

FuZzBom,
When I first got my Fazer the valve was stuck shut and it ran awefull, gutless at high revs.  I cant imagine for one minute having it open continuously would let it run well at low engine speeds. It made a massive difference when I first experienced a fully working exup valve, nuff power at all times! That's why we love em innit?  The one listed on eBay looks like it would make the engine sing on full throttle but I just wonder how often your full bore caning the bitch till she screams no more and the front wheels just coming back down while you snick it up into fourth....or summat you louts on bikes like to do. I myself ride like nun carrying eggs (not in a reproductive way, I mean like Chickens or Ducks if you fancy).  Anyway I'm off work sick so I gotta bit o time to type.  So I have, typed. I'm off for a coffee and to stare at the phone while waiting for k tech to ring and say my shocks all done

 :rolleyes :) :rolleyes

Well my exup was squeaking when it closed and my main stand was too so I thought while I'm waiting for rear shock to be sorted I'd slap some coppergrease around.

Sheared allen head bolt on exup end plate.
Bust Cable Pulley (cables were rusted in solid).
Sheard 1 exhaust stud into the head.

Other than that it's not too bad  :\

Oh well....took it in today.  Maybe when it goes again, which it will one day, I'll try the R6 Mod.  As for spring stiffness it is set on hardest pre load when two up and seems fine to me but I'm no [insert name of preferred racer here] you see....more like [insert name of archetypalslow rider here]  :)

Only thing that worries me about the R6 mod is the drilling of the mount! surely the lightwieght 600 is not blessed with too much metal for the job? and then to remove some of it to fit it a much heavier bike...with a fat top box and two people? If it was just me on it I might have gone for it but I'm happier with a heavy strong thing that light weak thing, if ya know what I mean.  I'd be interested to know if any who have done the mod ride two up with luggage and is the mount stressed, stretching, cracking or owt? yer know after a few thousand miles...or summat.  I, obviously, am no expert but it seems wrong to take metal away.

Having recently started taking my missus on mine I thought I'd set mine up for us both... and found compression damping virtually non-existant!!.  Local yam dealer recommended K Tech.  Having read all this I'm still inclined to take my standard Yam Shock to K Tech for them to mend it.  A new Hagon? what are they £300? £400? Be about £100 for K Tech to mend mine  :) Money talks and it sounds like if they balls it up they'll sort it out.  Were all human...I drove my lorry into a short post that I knew was there the other day...when you drive for thousands of hours a mistake will happen eventually, just as I suppose when you mend loads of shocks ones gonna get ballsed up eventually. yer know, just saying like  :)

I must say I like the new site too.  It loads quicker and is very clear.

« on: 01 July 2011, 01:38:48 pm »
to test the fan attatch a fused positive feed from a battery to the blue wire and earth the black wire (lift the tank to get to fan wires)..see if she spins
to test the relay take off left hand side panel and remove the relay (note what colour wire goes where) using your leads straight from the battery again put the fused positive to the Brown terminal and the negative to the Green/Black terminal at this point the relay should click and connect the other two terminals inside (brown and blue) use a continuaty tester to check this for 100%

the thermo unit (temp sensor) should make the temp warning led come on for a few seconds when you first turn the ignition on and the go off letting you know that alls well with the circuit.

If you have a fault with the thermo unit let me know and I'll post what my manual says about that (quite lengthy that bit!)

bit harsh saying this new site is crap.  Its certainly 100% better than a blank screen and I'm glad to be here :-)

I've seen em in the shop at Chesterfeld and they look better in the flesh.  Not that I'd get one - for the same reasons I wouldn't get a new FZ1. . . I'm skint!
