For Sale & Wanted / Re: For Sale Come Spring
« on: 23 January 2019, 09:28:37 pm »
I'm shocked , I thought you'd have that forever. Why are you selling after all the time and effort, not to mention money that you've put into it over the past couple of years? Somebody's going to get an absolute bargain. I'm almost tempted myself.

I paid £1995 for it in 2013.

It was tidy when I bought it, but not loved as it had been used as an everyday bike.
The previous owner had the cam chain and tensioner assembly plus valve clearances done and serviced by a garage a month before selling it to me.
Because it was used as a work commute he had it serviced and looked after it, but just did not go that bit further and love it.
The bike just wanted a bit of TLC.

I was shocked at the power it has.
I had not been on a bike for many, many years, I loved the smoothness of the delivery and the acceleration was unbelievable, 4 seconds or something like that to 60 mph, my old BSA 650 was about 11 or 12 seconds. (And when the old Beezer was at 60 mph that was almost 2/3rds you max speed) :lol

I have loved owning this bike and I love the slightly retro Star Wars' look of the styling.

Yes I have injected a lot of money and effort into it, but I have also gained a great deal of pleasure and knowledge from doing it, many thanks to Kebab for his knowledge and help with the suspension upgrade.

If you want to talk hard cash the bike has likely cost me upwards of £3000 - £3250 including the initial purchase, but you have to be realistic it is still a 2003 registered motorcycle.
I am 72 years old now and to be honest I have work related Rotation and Impact damage to both wrists and I have calciumated joints now, bone fusion is on the cards, motorcycling is out. Plus other age related injuries, I'm sure a lot of old Foccers in here are struggling with similar aches and pains.
This is not a hard luck story (Boo Hoo! poor me, poor me) :lol

The upshot is the FZS 600 has to go. I think £1800 with the stuff the bike has had done is not unreasonable.

As and when it sells I just hope it goes to a good home where it will continue to be pampered. :rolleyes

The Merc SLK 230 Kompressor is also up for sale, as is my Vauxhall 1700 TDI Combo Van, and the Honda C90 is back on eBay after the tosser who won the auction last time never had the resources to pay for it.

I am almost embarrassed to say that I have just bought a second hand Skoda Yeti Elegance, 2Ltr Turbo Deisel in candy white, for £8.5K it is one hell of a lot of motor car.

Is that a 2002 model?. Mines a 2003 and it has the tuning fork logo on the tank.

It is 2003 'Registered' as it say in initial post, but the model is 2002, as you rightly say the logo on the fuel tank is different, I believe that is the only difference.
Mine has the front fork pre-load adjusters and the extra reach adjustment on the front brake.

Bridgestone T31 are a savage tyre , or the S21's
Both have excellent grip in wet and.dry riding

T31 on the front end and BT021 on the rear, works well for me, had a BT021F on the front did not like that if felt a bit skittish powering out of corners, plus it started feathering on the edges.

Anyone tell me as I have not found one yet, is the a bikes for sale section on the site?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Cylinder head removed
« on: 13 January 2019, 03:13:46 pm »
Red is right, If I were doing what you are, I would certainly replace all the rings with a NEW set.
If the rings and the bores wear at approximately the same rate then you will have halved the wear by replacing the rings.
Don't forget to take it easy for a few miles while the new rings bed in, should you decide go that way.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Cylinder head removed
« on: 13 January 2019, 09:49:54 am »
Sounds a bit like one disaster after another.  :'(
Not sure about putting a piston from one engine into another, if the original piston is only lightly marked where the ring popped out ( I am guessing the scratch is from the bottom ring down towards the base or skirt of the piston) I would polish it with a very, very fine bit of wet and dry to remove the scratch and polish it with Solvo polish, as long as the ring groove is not compromised. The bottom rings are not usually compression rings but oil control rings, or oiler rings, so will not impact on engine compression. Gently pop on the oiler ring from one of the pistons you have bought and use that, saves removing the Gudgeon Pin from the original piston and the hassle of replacing the gudgeon pim circlips.
The skirt or land of the piston having a scratch or mark with not effect the performance of the engine as it is the rings that are in mechanical contact with the bore not the alloy piston itself.
If the scratch is really deep, wide and long then replace the piston as it could compromise the strength of the piston at high revs causing the piston to break up or fail in some way.

If you do decide to remove the piston, stuff the crankcase mouth with rags before you start, because a gudgeon pin circlip falling into the crankcase mouth will cause a whole new set of problems.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Oil pressure switch
« on: 12 January 2019, 10:40:31 pm »
When doing an oil change my engine is still hot after draining old oil out, new filter on, new fresh oil up to the upper mark on the engine, fire it up, filter fills, shut off after a minute, leave bike 5 mins and it usually takes about 75 cc to to get it back up to upper mark. As others have said I never have to put oil in the engine between changes (often only 1500 miles) but oil that comes out of the Fazer goes in my mowers and Honda C90 also is it for topping up my diesel Combo van.

Don't you just love rhetoric, hot air and second guessing.

Me or you shooting off your/my big mouth and falling out with each other will not make one jot or tittle of difference.

As the old saying goes 'Opinions are like Arseholes everybody has got one' and we are all different in our similarities.

I was watching Mrs May on the TV tonight and listening to her, not just what she was saying, but her tone and watching her mannerisms, I predict if she fails and I sadly believe she will (She has very few supporters where it matters) she will have a complete breakdown.

Like a lamb to the slaughter.  :'(

The construction and use regulations state that the only colour emitted from the front can be white or amber. From the rear its red or amber (plus white for the reversing light)
Any other colour is prohibited.

A lot of teh chavs get away with teh blue bits under their cars becasue it is reflected off the road etc and not actually visible from the source. The truck lights are illegal but you would need to find a copper (first) that gives a toss (second) before anyone gets done for having them

So my little SLK has white indicator lens on the front, with a amber bulbs fitted. If I shoved a blue/white LED in there would I be breaking the law and would anyone care a toss. Back lens are Orange with white bulbs.
Hey what do I know? I just went outside to check and the back indicator lens are white with amber bulbs

I've only had a quick look, but the law seems to hinge on whether the blue lights are being operated as warning lamps. I guess that means flashing lights.

Be quite interest to know precisely what the law is on vehicle lighting.
if as it seems likely white light only emitting from the front of a vehicle with the exception of flashing indicators of Orange or White, all those Led blazoned logos that are in the truck cabs might be illegal, most seem to have a high percentage of blue in them. If there is no rule as to the correct colour for flashing indicators on a vehicle why not LED blue/white? Can you imagine hundreds of cars stuck in a motorway jam with their blue/white hazards going.

3 truck logo pics and a Foreign truck logo,  :pokefun  often seen blazing out of the front of truck cabs

I honestly think that a few in here would not last 5 minutes working with a gang of brickies or ground workers, no sense of humour and take themselves all to seriously.
Every time I go past a building site they're all stood in a row, hoods pulled down, chain smoking and staring silently and blankly into their smart phones.

Don't look much like a bundle of laughs to me :lol

Yeah but that's from round where you live, everyone is like that around there.

Where I live, and, where I worked brickies are paid for what they do, its the nature of self employment and price work, if you don't do the biz there is no dosh at the end of the week, we are not all safe workers that get paid even if we hang about all day with our finger up our nose.
Of course I am not insinuating that you do, but is that boggy on the tip of your finger?  :lol

Really? Works very well doesn't it.

Reading the gumph on it makes it sounds a bit like the Snooper Radar and Lazer camera detector that I have the displeasure of owning.
The manufacturer say it detects 100 percent of traffic cameras, all the different types and all the bands they use, it does all the fixed cameras, Gatso and Truvelo plus the new Muti Directional Truvelo and the even newer the Yellow Vulture camera.

The problem is it detects the cameras on temporary traffic lights, the camera on the automated doors at service stations, shops, Boots the Chemists or any automated doors on industrial estates that you happen to pass, it even detects the doors on my local doctors surgery. in fact its a cacophony of alarms every few yards along the road because it even picks up the proximity cameras that fitted to modern cars to warn the driver that someone is in their blind spot.
You get so many warnings you either ignore it completely, shut it down, or silence it, In fact I think I might hit it with a hammer.
The equipment on the roof of Gatwick Police Station seems to be about as much use as the Snooper, seeing as the things were flying around the air port for a not insignificant time.

What gets my goat is people who use different sized fonts in their replies  :pokefun

More and more trucks on the roads covered in banks of LEDs and quite a of them are blue. I thought it was illegal to have blue lights on a vehicle.

Hear hear!
Trucks with F------g great blue Logos in the cab behind the driver's back, you can see them a long way off on the motorways at night have have caused me to slow down several times before realising it not the old bill,.
I thought that for general traffic white lights only on the front with the exception of indicators and red lights only on the rear with the exception of indicators, number plate lights and reversing lights.
I have seen lorries with blue and green lights along the sides and on the rear corners, others with blue reflective strips across the back  WTF   :eek
