As many of you are aware, the moderators dont get a lot of time to spare to keep an eye on what is being posted here so we have asked for others to volunteer. We have one confirmed so far and another one/two in the pipeline but if you think you have time to help, put your name forward to me. In the mean time, welcome to the mod team b1k3rdude.

FZS600 Fazer / Handlebars
« on: 18 July 2020, 02:03:24 pm »
Mine are slightly bent. Rather than get a scaffold pole on them to straighten them, or get a second hand set, to save me getting the tape measure out, what Renthals are closest to standard FZS600 ones?

General / Transport after lockdown
« on: 09 May 2020, 09:38:32 pm »
Whilst we all hate the fact that we cannot really ride our bikes at the moment, the current situation may actually help us.
With limited capacity on public transport when people start going back to work, more people may turn to bikes again for transport rather than get stuck in traffic jams. As a result, councils may actually invest in some more bike parking, people wont be so anti-bike and we may see some new sensible bikes being made again

I am sure I had that in the 70's. The man with the lorry would come round and sell us bottles of the stuff. Things like Cola, Fizzy Orange and worst of all, Dandelion and Burdock. Once we had a couple of glasses, we would feel ill.

General / Timeshare scammers
« on: 18 December 2019, 01:15:17 pm »

If I get my hands on them before the legal process does, it may cost them even more than the money they have scammed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My blood is boiling at the moment. The father-in-law is in hospital and basically wont be going home again as they are looking to move him to a care home. In come social services and start wanting to see details of investments etc. Luckily my Mrs went to the meeting with the MIL and started finding out about the "investments" they have. :headbang

quick history - 10+ years ago they bought a timeshare (daft but they did) for about £40K :headbang)
10- years ago they agreed to sell it and never received the money (about £50K allegedly)
Since then they have spent about £50K trying to recover the £50K. Will they ever feccin learn.
All the companies involved have disappeared, closed down, etc

Now to make it worse, we have discovered they bought another "off-plan" investment property in the Caribbean about 8 years ago for about £70K by mortgaging their house :headbang
The MIL didn't even realise this was a scam too until I mentioned it yesterday
All the companies involved in this have gone pop too. All owing money to each other according to companies house.

Once I get all the info together, it will be decision time. Walk away, go through the legal route and courts to try to recover something or use a known (to me) debt collection company to go and break some legs  collect what's owed. All the directors hide behind correspondence addresses but I have ways to find their actual addresses and even if all of their apparent assets are in the wifes name, recovery may be possible.

What do you use?

I currently have a 40 year old Beretta Semi-Auto (391 Ulrika) which I have been using for over 20 years which I am thinking of changing. Looking at a few different second hand O/U from Beretta, Miroku, Browning or a new Bettinsoil/ATA/Something else but want your views

I have always wondered about the effectiveness of these and have a few ideas of ones to start but feel that no matter how many people vote for them, the government will ignore them anyway. What do you think? Are the ones i have listed below worth a shot? Are there any you would create?

- All Government ministers, MPs, Lords etc must retire from government no later than their state retirement age.  - This would put people like Corbyn out to pasture before they can kill the country

- All MP candidates must have their primary residence in the constituency where they want to stand for a minimum of 3 years BEFORE they are allowed to stand.  - This would stop the parties parachuting people they dont want to lose into safe seats and ensure that he MPs have a reason to back their constituents views

- All MP candidates must pass an IQ test - This is to make sure they understand common sense and can add up etc - Gets rid of people like Dianne Abbot.

I am sure there will be many more like "compulsory retesting of drivers over the age of 70" etc.

Have a go at this :eek
https://www.paris-brest-paris.org/index2.php?lang=en&cat=presentation&page=historique_pbp

7600 cyclists left Paris between 4pm yesterday and 5am this morning to cycle to Brest and back. A total of 1200km (800 miles) and they must complete the "race" within 90 hours with no backup vehicles. They stop where they want, eat and sleep when/where they want and basically cycle for as many of the 24 hours each day as their body will allow.

They are currently over halfway to Brest having passed through the area where I am (Mayenne) today. Hopefully I wont see to many of the foccers tomorrow but expect to see a lot on their way back to Paris on Wednesday

General / Hastings Direct - Be careful

 :wall

A couple of weeks ago I called them to add a third bike (another FZS600) to my policy. The intention was to take the original FZS600 off once I get serious and sell it. £25 to add a third bike. Not bad I thought and confirmed with the guy on the phone that all 3 bikes were now on cover.
On Saturday I was playing on the interweb and did an MIDB check of all three bikes to discover that the Tiger was showing as not insured. Fortunately I hadn't ridden it recently. A not so quick call later to Hastings uncovered the fact that their systems said I had Bike 1 and Bike 2 on cover but not Bike 3 and MIDB said it was 1&3 on cover, not 2. :headbang

Turns out the numpty who had made the change had screwed it all up and the policy should only allow 2 bikes on cover at any one time.

Moral of this story - If you make a change to your insurance, check your documents BEFORE you start using the bike. Luckily for me I realised before finding out the hard way
