Changed some broken indicators and extra lights, gave it an oil change and fork oil change too.

Had a nice wee afternoon tinkering away, haven’t done it for a while…

The bike isn’t glued to the wall btw…  :rollin

Not sure why it’s turned round… :rolleyes

Would have watched him at numerous racetracks over the years. Sadly that racetrack in the sky is getting far too crowded. RIP Julian Soper.

Adjusted the head bearing as I hadn't tightened it quite enough after giving it a grease up, took it for a test run and I think it needs just a fraction more, so back in the garage till I pick up the spanners again

I'm planning on doing a lot of surfing this year, so I took a ride along the coast to Bracklesham and The Witterings to look at the possibility of hiring boards there.

Once I'd done that, since it was a nice day, I carried along the A27 to Chichester and then went up the A285 to Petworth before heading back along the A272 where I had an encounter with a suicidal pheasant that decided to stroll across the road in front of me!

So I slammed on the brakes, leant on the horn and it took off so close to me that I actually felt its wing brush against my glove...   :eek Thankfully it didn't end up laminated into my fairing and the last I saw of it, it was flying ok.

Fortunately, after that, the remainder of the trip was a lot less eventful, although I was riding into the setting sun which wasn't great at times, however I got back home safely.

Unfortunately I didn't see any RAC vans, so I couldn't finish the Bike Picture Challenge that has been idling away since January...  :thumbdown

Today was a friend's wedding and when I looked at the location for the venue I thought "Ooh, I know that road, it's *fun*!"

So instead of a boring 30 minute ride up the A3, I had a much more enjoyable ride up some nice twisty roads and then, after the ceremony, took the long route back home :)

Lovely day for riding :thumbup

Had power failure on Friday, everything cut out on the way home from work.
That was around 6pm.
Logged my breakdown with RAC, who still never arrived or even gave me a time by 1am  :'(
Somehow got it started and ticking over, but running rough, and with my neighbour following in a car I somehow limped the bike home.
Once outside my house THEN the RAC driver calls.
I was so cold and pissed off I never actually asked him how long he would've been, but it's probably best I don't actually know.
Put battery on charge immediately but there was no power going to the battery at all with the engine running/revving, so I'm guessing the Regulator/Rectifier is duff?

Reg/Rec or alternator or a worn wire/ connection in the loom.

Trace around the circuit with a multimeter until you find a dead reading.

Swapped Reg/Rec for a used OEM one and spotted that one of the pins in the old plug had got a bit warm.
On fitting the replacement I noticed that when I plugged the connectors back together they pushed in about 3mm further, so there is a chance it wasn't fully pushed in before and may have caused an arc.
All working now though, and battery showing 14 volts when ticking over.  :)

RAC want to speak to me later on, that should be interesting!

RAC apologised and gave me £30.

Thorough wash and blow dry, then sheeted up the tyres/brakes, took the seat off, and wafted ACF50 all over the rest of the bike. Wiped over with a cloth, bit of oil on linkages. Trackday booked at Donington 4th May, going down one on the front sprocket for a little more zip out of the bends, might take me into the middle of inters rather than the rear

A while back the spring on the left foot peg broke and I eventually got fed up with it flipping up, meaning I had to find it with the sole of my boot and push it back into place.

Also I decided to replace the air filter as it had been on there for quite a few miles.

So I thought the foot peg spring would be the easier job...

... boy was I wrong!

Getting out the retaining split pin was the easy bit, but, because the peg hadn't been removed for gods alone know how long, the peg "bolt" was jammed in place.

I tried wiggling it with pliers and using Plus Gas to free it, but no luck. So then I tried giving it a tap with a hammer, but nothing happened. So then I gave it a belt with a hammer! And then another belt, and another, and another...

Eventually, at last, it started to shift, but I could only get it as far as the bottom of the hanger, so then I tried using a drift to help drive it out, but that wasn't working.

Finally, I decided that, even though I'd padded the end of the hammer, I might have mushroomed the end out, so I tapped it back down and then used my Dremel to grind down the end to smooth it off and, finally, it started to come out, except, of course, I had to remove the bolt for the gear shift to get the peg bolt most of the way out at which point it stuck again, so this time I drove it back in and used the Dremel again to grind the corrosion off the shaft at which point it would (thankfully!) come all the way out.

Except then it looked like the spring I'd bought was the wrong one because it seemed to be too large to fit in the slot on the peg, but after a bit of fiddling and comparing with the other side, I got it back in place. So I gave the peg bolt a polish with the Dremel and a spray of Duck Oil and it's now back in place and working properly.

The Air Filter, on the other hand, was a piece of cake, lift the tank, take the housing cover off, stick the new one in, replace the housing, lower the tank, sorted!

The weather this afternoon was dry and more importantly, the rain last night washed off most the road salt so took a short run to the coast.  It was great to get out but found the brakes very poor.  I had tried beeswax and also ACF50 when I stored the bike at the end of least year so despite being careful to keep it clear of the brakes I must have managed to contaminate them.  I pulled out the pads, removed the calipers and cleaned up everything with brake cleaner.  I gave the pads faces a quick soak in cellulose thinners for good luck.  I noticed that the pad springs had previously been installed upside down but after double checking, I replaced them per workshop manual.  With that, the rain started to fall so will have to wait for another day to test the brakes.

Next time, get a bin bag, split it up one side and use that to cover the whole of the wheel before spraying.

If you *really* want to ACF 50 the wheels, spray it onto a cloth and wipe it on for safety :thumbup

I was not even trying to get the ACF50 on the wheels....I now only apply it with a small brush to bolt heads and such like.  The stuff refuses to stay put and will continue to run.    I do think that ACF50 seems to keep out corrosion though.

After a couple of months hibernation, it was time to pull the dustsheet off of the Fazer, and get her out in the Spring sunshine.
The Sta Bil had done its job as she fired up straight away. All the necessary maintenace had been done around Christmas time, so after a quick tyre pressure check, it was off for some B road fun and frolics. I had hoped to complete my own photo challenge, but RAC vans were having a day off in my area.  After taking in Groombridge,Halland,Heathfield,Battle,Rye,Appledore,Tenterden and Sellindge, it was time to make for the pub. A filling station was needed on the way, which held quite a nice surprise, super unleaded £1.69.9 a litre, happy days. A quick rip roar through the lanes to Yalding and beyond, got us to the pub, with a seat in the sun with our names on it. It would have been so easy to have made an afternoon of it and got a cab home, but that wasn't how it worked out. An hour later I was on the drive  with a very pleasant 189 of out wonderful English miles on the trip meter. Hope there's a few more enjoyable days like today, in store.

I installed a new touring screen today. Hand made here in Serbia (5000 RSD = 35.32 GBP) and gear indicator from Aliexpress which works great.

Yesterday I went on a group ride from Wickham to Coggess Kitchen in Oxfordshire.

The day started off a bit chilly, so I decided on adding my mid-layer jacket and using the winter gloves, but a couple of hours later with the clear sunny skies, even after dumping the midlayer, I was regretting not bringing the summer gloves too!

Fortunately I'd put the top box on, so could dump the jacket in that, but I found that one of the mounting bolts that connects it to the pannier rack had vibrated loose and fallen out somewhere, so, even though it was still secure the box was bouncing around somewhat alarmingly  for the people behind!

I've ordered a replacement (and a couple of spares) that should be with me in a couple of days and this time I'm going to add some Threadlock to keep it in place.

Anyway, we had some fun and "spirited" ;) progressive riding on some very enjoyable roads and it was nice to get out in the fine weather :thumbup

Yesterday. Losing an hour was a bit of a killer, as it made a  07:30 start stupidly early. Within a mile or so from home it became obvious that 2 piece leathers were not going to be ideal, as the cold and damp conditions didn't quite match up with the weather that had been forecast. Never mind, turn the heated grips up to max and think of the full sun that would greet me at Poole Quay.
Fortunately it was stupidly early for most folks, so speedy B road progress was made to the A272 at Cowfold, which would then take me down to Loomies for a cup of tea and a warm up. I'd read of extra police presence on the 272, but no doubt the early dull conditions had kept them somewhere else.
The tea having hit the spot, it was back on the bike following the 272 to the far side of Winchester, before picking up the A30 to Stockbridge and beyond. My favourite cafe,The Haven, had ceased trading at the end of January, so scoped out an alternative between Amesbury and Salisbury. It was ok, but not memorable, however the slight detour took me past the Secret Spitfire, which, until I'd planned the route, I'd never heard of. A petrol stop at Salisbury saw me back on B roads down to Wimbourne Minster, before picking up the A350 into Poole. The sat nav had me outside my favourite pub in no time, as usually I waste 10 minutes getting lost around some of Poole's finest back streets.
A quick couple of pics, then over to the Portsmouth Hoy for a pint of Badger. The downside of being on my own, is that by the time I got served, the only vacant bench in the sun was now taken by two women eating ice creams, having bought nothing in the pub. A seat inside it was then, and could have got really comfortable as my pint of Badger disappeared in no time. A half hour in the sun, sat on the wall alongside the quay, and it was homeward bound, virtually retracing my steps other than the Amesbury diversion. The Haven is now a building site, judging by the number of skips and amount of building material in the car park. The new owners are re-opening, in a different format, on April 1st......good luck with that then.
Other than a petrol stop just before Cowfold, it was home in one hit, with 333 of our lovely English miles recorded on the trip meter, as the ignition key got turned off for the last time that day.
