Glove and boot dryers
« on: 30 June 2016, 08:03:53 pm »
Anyone use a glove or boot dryer on those wet and wild days?

I have seen a few on Amazon and eBay but was wondering if anyone had and used one.

Thanks.

I find stuffing the boots with newspaper or kitchen roll is much cheaper and simpler. If you really need them dry quickly, a hair dryer on cold setting works (don't use the hot setting, that will ruin the leather).

As for gloves, the simplest method is to pour rice into them! It absorbs the water quickly, then dust your hands with talc and put them on to clear up any residual dampness :thumbup

It's worth having a couple of pairs of gloves which you can alternate should one set be a bit damp!  :)

So from this lecture is it safe to conclude you haven't used one?  :evil

If you happen to have a bag of rice to hand, surely there's a small chance you also have access to some form of radiated heating device that could also dry your gloves out, rather than turning them into some sort of strange meal?

Thanks all, a true varied and interesting array of suggestions, so the most popular method is emptying an Uncle Ben's ready meal into it, understood.

Hahahahahahahahahaha....great post....lmao.  I only buy QUALITY gloves and take 3 pairs and some turcano urbano muffs.  Not the ones that u fit permanently as they are bulky.  If like me your out on the bike in all weathers for work then muffs are a massive help. If that's not for u then get some good goretex textile gloves as they will dry much better. Save the money u want to spend on a dryer and put it towards what u will spend on another pair. Stand them up on a rad and just dry the inside. The outside will dry normally or when u ride in the dry.
When I'm out and about and it rains I whack on the muffs and swap gloves to keep me pinkies tiptop. When the rain stops I put the gloves on that are wet on the outside and dry em out. NEVER tumblr dry or overheat them as the form of the glove will missform.

Failing that come on a ride out and hold them in front of Dazza as he blows untold hot air. Lol
Just flapping about on this stagnant little pond on the outer rim of the internet.....yup....  :-))

2mins in the microwave, get the meat juices from the gloves marinating the rice, whilst drying them out at the same time.
Add diced chicken to the gloves for a meatier option, with a light brushing of garlic butter, black pepper and oregano.
A double whammy.  :b

Or just buy some decent gloves!

Newspapers are full of transferrable ink, it wouldn't be my first choice, maybe paper towels or the like.
Anyway, back to the 21st century, that old radiator thing i was on about.......

I have a sneaky feeling shapaeye is talking about the heated driers  with prongs which go inside the boot.   The b&b in Austria had one. Not sure how it worked but did the trick.

I have put garden canes down the back of radiator before to suspend boots upside down directly obove the rad. Works well but requires heating to be on, a major downfall :)

If they are leather gloves, radiated heat will very probably ruin them.
