bar end weights/sliders
« on: 30 August 2017, 09:42:22 pm »
anyone got any tips for me?
the bar end weight/slider in my bars seem like they are not in right.
theres a gap between the bar end and the "underside" of the bar end slider that it would sit against. and no amount of pulling or hammering seems to make the weights move in or out.

how do i get these things out to replace with new ones?

Yeah leave them alone. They're supposed to be like that.

They're suppose to have that much gap?
Like 5 to 10 MM. at least.

What if I want to change them to a different style. How do I get the weight out from inside?

Yes there is a small gap but it should be the same all the way around but just a few mms at most. There should be a allen key hold in the end that you can undo. Do they have signs of scratches on them which would suggest that the bike has been over and also explain the screw-wiff fitting

The screw comes out nice and handy but it's as if the weight inside the bar is not in enough. But won't come out either. Can I got any sliders to the weights in the bars already?
They are fairly tatty but more so from paint coming off and starting to tarnish than gouges from a drop

I cant quite remember but I think there is sort of a metal wedge cork shape that the bolt screws into inside the bar and the inside of the weight is split so that the wedge /cork spreads out the split section and what has happened is that the wedge is still in there tight. Screw the bolt back in part way and then give it a tap with a hammer and that should push out the wedge, then you can pull the whole lot out with the wedge still attached to the last few threads of the bolt

google bar end weight pictures and you will see and get the idea - its not quite the same as the bike stem in your picture .
Some are a rubber choler that gets expanded when the wedge gets pulled up inside it in which case the rubber could of stuck itself to the inside of the bar. Undoing the bolt can just leave the wedge - wedged in there so you need to tap out the wedge to release the pressure.
