« on: 19 December 2012, 10:07:50 pm »
I hadnt been on the bike for about 3 weeks and at the weekend; Sunday to be precise; I could stand no more and the garage door came open, out came a sparkling, buffed beutifully clean and oiled machine.
Two hours later I wheeled in a filthy old looking bike that rivaled Nick Saunders shabby bike look ((hose and soap this Saturday)) was I bothered NO! the wife said she could see how happy I was and she was right.
I have now got some acerbics hand gurads to put on; winter only mind; theyl be off in the spring.
Come on Santa bring me some dry and warmish..

Gloves I wear Hien Gereck two fingered gloves never leaked - Ive also sone big rubber overmits if its really cold. Ive got gortex sidis, never leaked - however evrything Ive tried jacket and bottoms has leaked at some point so for short journies I have an old cagougle and walking trousers (PVC) I wear over my courdura, for longer I wear a full oxford waterproofs (harder to get on and off) I still get wet coming through at the crotch but it never gets through all of the layers.
Message is wear bike gear for proptection and walking stuff or industrial stuff for waterproofing I reckon

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: FORGIVING FAZER & TYRES THAT TALK
« on: 09 November 2012, 12:47:43 pm »
Heres a one for you and I bet I am not the only one who does it. Many years ago, and not sure how it came about, I started spinning the rear wheel in the wet. Started by simply over accelerating in a straightline, in no time at all you become a bit more confident and find yourself doing it coming out of slight bends. It looks good and I have being doing it, when in the mood, for years without incident.
But being serious my main point is when it matters and your tyres do let go you automatically react with the appropriate throttle responce, and panic a whole lot less if at all , this is as I believe down to messing about in the wet and you instinctivley react due to previous practice. have experianced this a few times and never even felt as though i was going to come off.
Lingy with you there I did years and years of enduros, I never purposly slide the fazer but when it does I just let it without a lack of alarm - so those of you not willing to try sliding get on an off road day, huge fun and helpful real world too.

Not noticed the same after having a 023 fitted on the front, used to have an 021 on.

I've just completed my first week on Metzeler Z8s and I like them a lot. For once the advertising blurb is fairly accurate and yes they have much less bump steer and roll over white lines and mastic banding as if it isn't there, utterly perfect for filtering between lanes on the commute. Rain performance and especially 'damp' performance is outstanding, I found myself riding at 'dry' pace in the wet more than once before calming meself down a bit and going slower, but I'm not surprised these tyres were a massive 3 seconds quicker per lap than other ST tyres in the MCN test. The feel of these tyres is really really good, like you can feel every bit of gravel and undulation of the tarmac but they give a 'comfy' ride, nice and stable with neutral steering and what I'd call medium roll in to corners (about the same as PR2s, certainly not as rapier like as the Road Attack2 front). The blurb says the construction of the tyres is a new technology using different tensions in the belts to distribute heat, I don't know how that works but the tyres feel very different to any other I've used.
It's easy to favour and prefer a new tyre coming off a worn pair of some other make but on balance I do like the Z8s over my PR2s -for a winter tyre at least.
I'm doing 400 miles a week on these, I'll report back on wear rate at a later date.
Watch em close mate I had Z5's ace tyres then one day they wernt, no degredation and plenty of tread left just went right off no grip. On 023's now but only git 200miles on em so cant wax lyrical about them yet..

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Changing the bikes colour without a respray
« on: 17 October 2012, 04:44:38 pm »
There are companies that do plastic films, any colour, any effect, even from photos/pictures - when you come to sell just peel it off. A lot of racers use them as well as rally teams and touring car teams as they protect bodywork from damage also. I have some links on my home PC (at work dont tell the boss) Ill try and remember to post em.

Theres  a guy at work selling an 09 R1 and Im seriously thinking about buying it to raz around on  sunny days for a couple of hours  whilst still using the fazer for long distances, two up, touring, town work, all day stuff.

Is there enough differnce to consider it???

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Wobbling front wheel !
« on: 10 September 2012, 12:18:00 pm »
Easy stuff first - have you changed the tires lately? unbalanced wheels or even some tires (my OE ones did this) can cause this, have a look for a clean spot on your wheel rim where a weight might have fallen off also.
As said by others addition of luggage can cause it or saggy rear sussies (ooer missis).

If non of these, then wheel bearing, head bearings, twisted forks, etc, etc, but tink about thye simple one first..

As i said below 6K revs not huge differences, how much did all the mods cost???

Im all for doing your own thing, and big power is available (its a sports bike with upright bars) but this guy wants low down torque n power so for me two choices buy a GSX1400 or never let the revs drop..  :lol  change the spocket anyway..

Keep smiling..

The valve in the headers is to cut down noise and nothing else.
I Think the gen2 exup valve is also only to cut down the noise levels...

So I can bin it from my gen2 and save myself the same issue??? which wire do I cut????

Thanks

But yes foccin dealers, I use a mixture of a local lad Sean at Roy Jervis Ripley; and then CMC if I think yam should do it for free or if they are cheaper (tyres and pre paid servicing)

dry road, warm day, solo, 42, been riding an hour, banked over - second time its happened in a relativly short time, before these they were the OE fittment. Im so puzzled Im just looking at prices for BT023's right now..
It just lost traction not wildly spinning, sliding away like backing it in unitentially

Hellooo good people (and the bad ones)
On Sunday I had another (last one two weeks ago) rear wheel slide, this one a scary one still dont know how I got through it, I needed a dab with the foot, I knew those years of enduro racing would come in one day.
Ive got metzler M5's fitted and they have been ace, They still have good profile, good tread, no flat spot, correct pressures and only 1100 miles on them??? But wat else can it be? Im pretty front end heavy always have been.
Ive changed nothing and only got 4200 miles on the clock so shouldnt be suspension wear yet, I set the sag before second ride but apart from that bog standard.
My gut says change tyres but I could be throwing money away.

You can spend lots of money for very little gain, I have spoken to my mate who races an R1 in the Mallory series and his mechanic who owns a yamaha dealership, both say do nothing but the sprocket, because there are no low down gains to be had.
So my fix is ride it like a two stroke and dont let the revs drop, it doesnt seem to effect fual consumption that much.
Fit loads of stuff if you want braggin rights, pub talk or like to alter the looks, but not to gain low down grunt, ride it, enjoy it.

General / Re: speeding
« on: 18 August 2012, 10:09:39 pm »
Yorkshire cops target us, speeding, number plates and exhaust cans be warned.
Got me for my plate, two of my mates for speeding and a load of guys in Helmsley for thier cans in 1 TRIP to Scarbourough and Whitby.
I got stopped for plate just off the M18, yes blues n twos and stopped, mates speeding at holme upon spalding moor?? I think its called, tickets NIP in post a week later. Then like I say after Whitby stopped at Helmsley and they are checking cans for loadness and for race use only stickers.
I stopped going to North Wales during the Bromestron days, they are like angels compared to Yorks..
