Thanks for the additional comments gents. I'm not in much of a rush to replace so can afford to wait and have a look around. I have seen an FZ6 for £1800 on an 06 plate which i thought was quite cheap! I will drop a line on here when I get my full settlement.

Gents, Thats brilliant advice thank you all. It has now made the process alot clearer in my own mind. I will try and see if I can squeeze a few more quid out of them which will help source a new bike. I think a couple of things stand out form the above comments, 1. Once you have decided to let your insurers deal with it, you have to go with the flow and let them deal with it, with the final outcome not always being to your liking. 2. If you go alone and decide to do your own repairs there are other pitfalls, i.e. getting the bike insured, repaired ok. and the biggest learning of all out of this is dont throw your bike down the road ! p.s. if anyone knows of a lowish mileage foxeye for around £2k let me know

Thank you for the advice so far, I'll have a trawl through the classifieds, a very quick look seems to bring up an 03 600 at more near £2500. The chap from 4th dimension has tried with non OE parts and cant get the price down.

Hi All, I have managed to throw my bike down the road and into the back of a car. I am ok but dealing with the insurance and repair companies is turning out to be more painful than the accident. The bike is an 03 600 foxeye and the damage sustained was a smashed front mudguard; scuffed and scraped front wheel, scuffed fork lowers; heavily scraped LH fairing; heavily scrapped LH engine cover, bent LH foot peg. bent radiator. The bike went to 4th Dimension in Egham Surrey and has been with them for 3 weeks. The have called me today to say it is an uneconomical repair which has surprised me as the bike was rideable after the accident. They have said there is £3K worth of damage. They have offered me £2k in settlement minus my excess of £300 which will leave me £1700 towards a new bike. As I have never been in this situation I have a few questions 1. Can I ask for my bike back in the condition I gave it to them and will I incur any costs? 2. If they do give me it back can I repair it and put it back on the road? 3. If they have written it off can it go back on the road? 4. Can I ask for parts off the bike [it had a system 3 alarm on it] 5. Is the £2k negotiable [if I think it is worth more than that] As I said I am a bit green in this area and would like others experiences or advice before I go back to them? Thanks Badger

Fazer needs some major fettling which will include the exhaust coming off and getting a rub down and respray. While it is off I want to clean up the front of the engine which is dirty and dull and also has some furring. So what is the best product with the best degreasing and cleaning result you have used? Cheers badger

I have been a few times in the past, but with it being local I tend to go for a ride round first and then call in on the way back home. Well worth going on a warm summers night when there gets quite a gathering. The only thing we need now are the warm summer nights

I've just gone the other way, was with swinton last year but their renewal quote was £70 out, did the comparison run through on the internet and bennetts were the cheapest by far. Didn't have to claim with swintons so not sure how good they would be in then? IMHO they are all much the same so go for the cheapest if the cover is right for you

i'm not a fussy eater and would probably try horse out of curiosity if I saw it on a menu somewhere? I was at the Melton Mowbray market on tuesday and a couple of stalls had kangaroo, ostrich burgers etc and no one was jumping up and down and stoning the stall owners! What I cant comprehend is how horse meat is cheaper than beef? are there horse farms where they are bred like cows for their meat? badger [my name not a type of burger ]

Thanks for the replies, I haven't seen any more in the house although still plenty in the garden. I have put some ant powder near the doors to the house, as I understand that they do more good than harm and don't want to unnecessarily kill them.

Didn't think I would be asking this question on here but here goes, I am being plagued by beetles in the garden and a few are starting to appear in the house now and freaking the wife out a bit. I have trawled the internet and found that the beetles are called Clivina Fosser [not ringo george paul n john]. They are quite agressive and attack one another and have filled my outside sink drain with dead carcasses and I have even seen one beetle pick up a dead one and drop it in the drain !! . So my question is will they do any damage to the house i.e. bore into wood lay eggs and cause a bunch of problems down the line? or do I just leave them be and let nature take it course? I'm going to give the council a call tomorrow to see what they advise as well. many thanks badger

i had a Airflow turbo trainer but seriously dont do it save your money, it gathered dust in the garage and i eventually sold it. It is the most boring mudane exercise i have ever done! As JZS has said go out on your bike, invest the money in some wet weather or warm cycling gear or as a last resort try a spin class, very enjoyable and a good work out and the scenery can be very good in there
