I did the BikeSafe course a couple of years ago in Birmingham. FANTASTIC!!!!!
A bit scary the first day have a copper behind you all the time, but they are motorcyclists and they want you to stay alive.
On the subject of speed, the copper I followed 'nicked a bit on clear A roads. Apparently he took the lead because we were not making sufficient progress - 60 on our clocks was not 60 on his calibrated clock - seems like it was nearer 80 to keep up!

My old BMW R1100S had a lever inside the fairing to manually drop the lights with a pillion on. Low tech but worked a treat. Can't be that expensive or difficult to fit as original equipment!

I agree - the only problem is you piss the the drivers off who do look out for bikes. (like me - queue saintly smile  :evil ) and we all need more of them. Mind you, with someone on the back, i'm lighting up the sky anyway!

Sort of thinking I would go for the Nitron (probably) - (I used to be indecisive, now I'm not sure  :D ) So, went to the local dealer to see about cost of fitting. Anyway, no one has asked them to do this on a Fazer 8 yet and they wondered what my problem might be! They lent me their demonstrator and .... No rear shock problem!!!!! They 'inspected' mine and found no problem ... BUT, they swapped the demonstrator shock for mine FOC and I am happy  :) :rollin :)
No idea what the problem was - probably all in my head!
Nice to find a dealer that cares.

Cheers all.

Went into local dealer today and asked about the head light mod. Was told that they would advise it because 1) wiring harness may overheat. 2) the dipped beam spead would be wrong due to the lens and 3) it would fail the mot!

What do you think?

Hi 'thesagaciousman'
I am only looking at bottom range stuff really. It just seems abit bouncy to me - especially 2up.The basic Ohlins is about £500 (but has £75 pound refund if you sent the original shock back!). The Nitron  I have been offered is about £400.

Don't want to sound too stupid, but by height adjustment, is that what I call pre-load. A sort of stepped collar that effectively shortens the spring? Or is it an adjustment that lengthens/shortens the length of the whole shock?  - Don't laugh, I wont hurt you. Honest. :rollin

General / Ohlins or Nitron?

Help!
I would like to change the rear shock on my Fazer 8. Currently I am looking at 2 possibilities - an Ohlins unit (without external resevoir) and a Nitron with similar adjustment capabilities as the Ohlin. I have never changed the shock on any bike I have owned (over 34 years of biking - How old?  :eek ) so would appreciate any comments on either of these manufacturers.
Thank in advance for you comments. Cheers.

Sounds like your service is before mine - but will get back to you if I find anything out.
How are you finding the rear shock on your 8? Is mine the only one that's bouncy or am I just too fat  :rolleyes

Joining this topic a bit late - but my mate has a second hand FZ1 and both his lights are on in dipped! Do FZ1's do this anyway or has the previous owner done a mod. If 1's do it dealers shouldn't have too much trouble working out how to do it properly  :rolleyes I'm looking for my Fazer8 dipped lights to be sorted at 1st annual service next month (not told them that yet) Hopping for them not to be 'completely in the dark'. I'll let you know.
See Ya

Had my fazer8 for a year now. Well chuffed now it has a loud can  :)
Not so happy about the rear shock. Not the lightest biker in the world! Anyone changed theirs yet? Any suggestions? Cheers.
