from me if you sink it flush with the tank, not too sure on the raised look.

Cant go completely flush, top of the tank is curved, will worry about the position once I cut out the hole for the steel flange

Can not see the point myself but some people will like it.

With the bars in that position, low speed manoeuvrability will be interesting.

I kind of want it to look a little like a road going endurance/cafe racer, if that makes sense. Just need to try to make it look a little less fake with some paint and brushing of alloy

The tank is now just a cover, with all the underside cut away to allow room for the battery, there just wasn't room for it anywhere else, well not where I could conceal it, so under the tank it goes (tbh there are very small batteries available but at almost £200 I can have an aluminium fuel cell made, still use the stock battery and hide most of the electrics beneath there too)

I want to try to make it look similar to the dry break fillers they used in racing, it wont be perfect but then it will be several hundred cheaper. Off to the engineers tomorrow and ask him about machining and pressing a top hat spacer in to give the fillers some height and shape  (little to two dimensional atm)  Also seen a pair of flange gaskets I may fit.

Couple of pic's with cap heads fitted, not sure wjhich type to use yet, like cap heads as they're old school but will have to have a good stare and see if anything else takes my fancy

If I was going to make a fazer 'cafe racer', which I wouldn't, because although I love my incredibly practical fazer, I don't think the main elements are particularly pretty, like the engine, tank, frame or swing arm.  I wouldn't say either were show pieces. Although I'm really looking forward to being proven wrong and eating my words.

If it was me, I would cut out the existing filler and weld in a flat plate, and put a nice shiny cap and filler neck on the front right hand side. You can get some really nice filler caps and if you put it on the right you can brim the tank with the bike on the side stand.

I'm thinking about making a custom bike, so have looked at my fazer (and google images 'fzs600 cafe racer'), but don't think its the best starting point.  I reckon I'll get an xvs and turn it into a lowrider, fat front tyre, stretch out the riding position and fit some bullhorn wide bars. Each to their own huh! ;-)

I would use button heads instead of cap heads, give it a smoother look.

I always liked the fazer 6 as a Base for something like the harris 1200 mcwilliams races.



I have seen a couple of Blandits with similar bodywork looking like the old gs1000 racers and they do look nice....

Although evidently you have polished the swingarm, cut the frame and fitted USD fork.
Coming along nicely actually and I like the polished wheels. Nice project.

are those fabricated apertures from a low pressure vessel by any chance, they would not make a very good petrol filler because they are made of a dissimilar metal to the petrol tank, and you know what happens with dissimilar metals and liquids--not a good idea.

The only liquid they will see will be polish and water, its a dummy tank and  the fillers are just for show.

Need to have the steel flange welded in the tank to mount it but its finished bar choosing the right fasteners
