« on: 15 August 2022, 09:12:49 pm »
Evening

So following from my post abut Hackney's insane parking charges - https://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?topic=27440.0

Save london Motorcycling and MAG are organising a joint protest ride on 8th October against Hackney's parking proposals. You can find out more on the fb invite page: LINK

I will be going.

As the buyer was suitably impressed and found it very entertaining, I fuigured I would post the images on here. This is how you package a clutch basket, but the care and attn. to detail apply to anything else you ship these days :-)

General / London Borough of Hackney: Proposed parking charges
« on: 24 July 2022, 09:31:52 am »
If you live or work in Hackney, you need to be aware of this

Save London Motorcycling (SLMC) have started a petition against Hackney's plans for Motorcycle parking. We need as many people to sign this petition as possible and as of writing has 3000 signatures, so please sign and share below. This is how SLMC forced Camden to listen to us, if we get enough signatures to this maybe we can do the same with Hackney  -

https://www.change.org/p/stop-plans-for-new-motorcycle-and-scooter-parking-charges-in-hackney-savehackneymc?utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=custom_url&recruited_by_id=ee093930-fecf-11ec-a5cc-a932ca258f92

To recap, their plans are that from autumn 2022:

  • All motorcycles and scooters, petrol and electric, to be charged the same prices as cars.
  • Residents permits up to £850 a year.
  • Business permits up to £1800 a year.
  • Solo motorcycle bays charged at up to £6 an hour - yeah you read that right, PER HOUR!
  • Banning commuting with 4 hour maximum stay limits in most bays.
  • Petrol & Electric PTW’s are included.

If you oppose these changes please sign and share the above petition, you can also add a comment explaining how the changes will affect you. If Hackney are allowed to make these devastating changes, it will also set a terrible precedent across all London boroughs.

Facts have no meaning in Hackney

On Monday 18th July, a deputation to the Council by MAG representative Cathy Phillpotts provided evidence demonstrating factual errors in the report.  Looking at the wording of the report it is clear that these errors are directly used to contradict the wisdom of survey respondents.  The report states -

“respondents felt motorcycles were better for the environment compared to cars, vans and lorries. However, this is contradicted by research that shows that motorcycles contribute heavily to dangerous nitrous oxide (NO2), and Particulate Matter (PM10) pollutants on a par with vehicle counterparts.”

It is hard to understand how factual inaccuracies that serve as the only justification for a policy decision can be viewed as inconsequential.  The very basis for the Council decision has been accepted to be factually incorrect. Hackney Council is apparently willing to misrepresent and then ignore facts to bypass the will of its constituents and common law. Full details can on the above report can be found here - https://www.mag-uk.org/hackney-cling-to-flawed-decision-on-motorcycle-parking-charges/

And if you live in Hackney, please contact your councillor - https://hackney.gov.uk/find-your-councillor

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZ1 front calipor rattle - work around!
« on: 10 July 2022, 12:17:47 pm »
So like a lot of other FZ1 owner I am being iritated by the rattle on the front calipers

In a nushell the calipers on the FZ1 dont seem to be of the same qaulity/design as the ones on my previous FZS1000. The rattle is caused by wear in the caliper body where the side of the pads touch the caliper.

From memory I think Gnasher said the best long term fix is to replace the calipers which those of an XJR or an FJ. before I start looking I thought I would ask if anyone found a work around for the issue.

I havent checked yet, but I think making sure the pistons all move freely may also help a bit (So when its not so hot outside, will so the push out, sctahcbright, push back on them)

General / Help and suggestions: fix cracks in abs plastic
« on: 22 June 2022, 08:23:54 pm »
So like all my previous fazers, my latest has the same damn annoying issue with the plastic cracking next to the mounting holes. We have all run into this problem, but due to the scarcity of the parts (in this instance only one infill for my 2007 FZ1 in all of Yamaha Europe) and that was before Brexit/Covid I am looking for an alternative way of repairing cracks on the infill on my FZ1.

So have tried epoxy resin, but its just too brittle. I had considerd plastic weld, but don't know if that will work as some of the ABS plastic on the infill is only 2-3mm thick. So my next idea/plan is to try fine fibre glass mesh on/around the affected area.

Would like/welcome some other suggestions.

General / Html and formating issue in posts: Request for more infomation
« on: 25 November 2021, 02:35:09 pm »
Afternoon

Bob and I are looking into this issue that as it stands, a few people are have the issue where -
  • html will get placing into a thread post
  • Or the fonts will be super tiny or have unexspected formatting.
So in order to help us investigate the issue, it would be helpful if we can start by having the following info -
  • Who is having the issue?
  • What OS and browser are they using?
  • What browser plugins/addons to they have installed?
Once we have some users and test cases we can try and replicate the issue. Bob and I currently have multiple different browsers installed so we can test a few permutations.

many thanks

Just had a buddy tell me that he had a K&N oil filter let go and leak oil all over the bottom of the bike and his rear tyre on a trip to Europe. So then did a search online for "exploding K&N oil filter" and there is page after page of results, but here are some examples with images -
There was a class action lawsuit in 2020 against them -Looks like it effected the following filters - KN-138, KN-204 & KN-303 (This fits the FZS1000 & FZ1). They list the KN-147 for the FZS600, but other searching show the KN-303 also fits.

General / Notice for riders in Lewisham!
« on: 07 October 2021, 08:19:12 pm »
Evening

The Lewisham M/C parking charges consultation is closing on 1 November.

As there isn't much time yet could you please all promote and share it as much as possible? E.g in any forums/facebook groups you happen to be part of. Below is the text from Save London Motorcycling and the link to the consultation should you need it:

Lewisham Council have announced plans to bring in parking charges for motorcycles. We are going to do everything we can to fight these proposals, but we need your help.

The main proposals are:

  • Up to £125 per year for residents parking
  • Up to £625 per year for a business pass
  • NO daily/weekly pass available for commuters

You can let them know what you think by responding to the consultation here  -

Respond now The deadline is the 1st November. And the points you want to make can be copped from here -

  • The charges are too high and will price many motorcyclists out of working in the borough
  • The fact that there is no daily pass will make commuting impossible for many who work in the borough
  • Motorcycles take up far less space when parked and this is not reflected in the charges
  • Motorcycles are part of the solution to climate change, air quality and congestion
  • The charges are not proportionate based on the impact of motorcycles on climate change and air quality

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted: Comfort or modded seat for FZ1
« on: 16 June 2021, 04:47:26 pm »
So I did a total of 300 miles over 2 days and it reminded me the seat on the FZ1 needs to be improved. So does anyone have a modded/custom/comfort seat for sale..?

General / Can you use E10 - web-based checker:
« on: 10 June 2021, 10:02:38 am »
The Government has released a way to check if your motorbike can use E10 fuel.

As a very rough guide, anything pre-1990 or so could be in trouble. The problems you will get if you use E10 in a non-compatible machine is poor running and potentially deterioration of the engine performance over time. The actual negatives are not clearly expressed by Government statements, and it’s hard to get definitive information.

Afternoon

My local mechanic First Motorcycle Repairs in Watford has Yamaha FZS600 for sale -

The bike is a Y reg boxeye in black with 20k on the clock.

Full disclosure - this bike needs a bunch of TLC with the main issue being a few of the exhauster header studs being snapped off. The bike initially came in for this and other repairs, but when it became clear the cost of parts and labour cost more than the bike was worth the customer sold the bike to FBR. Now FBR just need the space. In addition to the stud issue, the bike need new brake pads, new chain & sprockets and new fork seals. I also spotted that the bike has previously been dropped on the right hand side as the lock stop is missing from that side.

The bike runs just fine, but due to the header issue the bike is not rideable so it will need to be collected. So grab your self a bargain, its worth it for spares alone or more if someone can do the stud repair and then get a working bike. The bike is sold as seen no returns.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZ1- front fork stancion corrosion:
« on: 22 March 2021, 07:57:06 pm »
So today I gave the bike its first clean since buying it (wasn't that dirty, but it was warm out). Anyway I get to the point where I am drying it off with the microfibre and get down to the forks and noticed some pits in the chrome (see attached). So I put on some cable-ties to check my travel to see of the fork seals are ever likely to touch etc and after a quick chat with Gnasher he confirmed on the outside at-least I am a good 5-10mm away. He also mentioned that the FZ1 stock on the front is under-sprung and under-damped, which then reminded me that the suspension isn't setup correctly for my weight - as the forks are travelling too far down.

I have yet to check the inside of the fork stanchions, which I will do the next sunny day we get. But I fear the corrosion there will be worse, like I have seen on a fork I spotted on ebay (see this image), as I can feel bumps and roughness with my fingers etc.

So my questions are for fellow FZ1 owners -
  • How bad is yours, got images?
  • How long did it take to get that bad, mileage, time-passed or both.
  • What have people done to try and combat this issue, trimmed down fork gator? ACF50?, grease?
Has anyone had their forks rechromed -
  • by who and how much,
  • how well has the new thicker chrome lasted..?  mileage/time-passed.
