Also, as we all know, one of the by product's of burning petrol is water, this would probably be your steam from exhaust as mine does the same until it's warmed up correctly. Today is quite foggy here so expect the steam to be greater when I go out in a bit.

I find chain cleaner on a rag does a good job seeing as most of the grime on mine is from my chain / scott oiler :)

Why not just fit a relay direct from the battery and use a switch wire to activate when ignition is on?

Another +1 for pinlock, I found at lower speeds to breath through your mouth and blow downwards helps, did enquire at local bike shop about anti mist sprays but general opinion of sales guy (and fair play for his honesty) he said they are all pretty crap. I can ride during the day without my glasses, only need them in poor light or at night. A well vented helmet helps, trade off is being a bit cold though. My Shoei XR1100 has a good lower vent and even at low speeds this keeps the glasses clear.

Hmm, perhaps a hole in the market for Pinlock glasses ? :)

CableTie will let you know about the cost of powder-coating. You do need to take the bearings out (or leave them in and replace with new when the wheels are returned).

The wheels was done by a powder coating company i use in burton upon Trent and i get things done for mates rates and sometimes FOC, they remove and refit the tyres for me as well and there completed in one day turn around all bearings need removing/replacing because they will be fecked after being in the oven.

Cost you would expect to pay from by another company ie someone local to you I think would be about £50 a wheel, however theres a company Ive used in the past based in derby and they used to charge me £30 a wheel " for solid colours" but there turn around was 1-2 weeks a bit too long.


OOOooo i'm not far from Burton-on-trent and may look to get my black wheels done over the winter, would look pretty nice in gold on a black FZ6s. Do they supply and fit the new bearings or if supplied they would fit etc.

Dont forget that ear plugs are also rated to what db level they block the sound so you can pretty much fine tune how much you personally want to hear on your bike. At the moment I am using the oxford flo yellow ear plugs, 39db I think,not cheap but fit nice and block the right amount of noise.Can still hear the engine and the cagers but critically isolates the high pitch and damaging wind noise of riding. I cannot ride now without having them in, bike sounds like a tractor if I do. Someone also mentioned about the sensory deprivation aspect, it makes you look around more and use your mirrors.

Company I work for has had this one than once, usually ends up with the company having to abide by delivery timetables between 7am and 7pm (flexible though). Make some noise with environment health, get others to complain, strength in numbers and all that.

FZ6s this year, hoping for a CBR 600F next year is if all goes to plan, will probably keep the FZ6s as well though, the missus will be well chuffed :)

cheap option, get a new nte5 linebox off ebay,

piece of cake to fit, could be the master socket capacitor failing (a guess here) and it's cheaper than calling BT out. worth a punt for a few quid.

Ashby road head towards A444 / M42 services a couple of weeks ago, nice afternoon for a ride out.

About 0.5 miles before the main traffic island I was stuck behind an old R reg ford galaxy, adult male driving, UK plates, presume wife in passenger side. On the last right hand section, blind right hand bend entry, to the island the driver just swerved into the right hand, oncoming, lane without indication or warning. 2 bikers on sports bikes came around the corner and had to make some serious lane changes to avoid. You could see the fear in their eyes as they passed me with WTF! gestures to the driver. Said driver then put on his hazards and pulled over to side of road. I rode past and beeped horn, slowed, shake of head and away. Still not sure why he did it, road markings are very obvious.

Just had a feeling to hold back and stay out of the way. Spider sense or whatever :)

Have also done Rospa which is basically the same as IAM, but you are retested every three years and graded, Bronze, Silver or Gold

As you know, the IAM grade from 1-5 where 1 is "Well above the expected standard" (or some such wording) and 3 is "acceptable" in 20 categories. Anything below 3 being a fail. I've heard it said that a basic pass (ie 3's across the board) is the equivalent of a RoSPA Bronze.

The IAM have recently introduced their F1RST qualification where you need to score 1's across the board (presumably their equivalent of a RoSPA Gold) however this only lasts for *two* years before you have to be retested which seems odd because I've heard RoSPA Observers say that they think that one reason for their declining membership is people not wanting to fork out for the three year re-test, so a two year test cycle seems the wrong way to go.

Blimey, that tree's got a load of branches............... Think i'll spend my money on fuel and road time, learn from my mistakes for now.

Hi All,

Had new tyres fitted a couple of weeks ago and since then something didn't feel right on the front end, bike felt as though it wanted to go right and brakes felt a little off. Decided that instead of taking it back to the garage I would instead learn about the bike and check it over myself. I found the following.

Front right shock was 2mm higher in the top clamp than it was before
Brakes binding more on the front than previously
Rear wheel alignment and chain tension was off
Handle bars are slightly to the right when traveling in a straight line on a flat road.

Quick check on the internet and a visit to halfords for torque wrenches, sockets, spanners etc etc and i'm ready to go.

Slackened off the shock hex bolts, two top and two bottom (just enough to hold but also adjust), reset the shock to the correct depth. Nipped hex bolts up.

Undid the bottom fork pinch bolt that holds the front right shock to the main shaft, bounced the front end up and down a few times, tightened back up and spun front wheel, now have a good few rotations before wheel stops.

Reset rear wheel alignment and chain tension.

Test ride - Feels 100% better with even braking and no pull to the right, just need to adjust handle bars ever so slightly to square them up.

Overall am happy with the work I have done and feel that it's safe, one question thought, can't find the torque settings for the 4 hex bolts that hold the front suspension. The 2 top bolts on the bars and the 2 lower on the cast section below the front fairing, thing the top are 6mm? and the bottom 8mm? Can anyone help me with these please.

Not related to the Fazer but I had a ford focus 2007 model which had the same kind of fault, numerous trips to the garage but could not find the fault as it presented no error codes in the ECU, got pee'd off with all the running about so got myself some brand new coils, changed them over myself and all was well. Then sold the car for a Ford Kuga :)

Double bubble helped a bit with mine, changing to a Shoei helmet made a big difference though, lot less wind noise now. I do wear earplugs also.Old helmet was a Shark S700 S.

I suppose it comes down to this.... Its your life so if you choose to ride without correct gear then don't start crying if you get hurt following an off. My personal choice is to wear the best i can afford and feel safe in, if its too hot then go later in the day or not at all.

Hi all,
Just got licence a couple of months ago after years and years of blathering on about it. Tons of mags, websites, unconvinced test rides on other bikes from beemers to sv650's to bonnevilles etc convinced me that what i really, really needed/lusted over is a fazer. So...last Tuesday, perhaps a little rashly? on ebay I bought a 2000 fzs600 with 22000 miles on the clock and glorious, pristine shiny black paintwork. The seller's feedback was all great so wasn't overly worried although never having sat on one I was mostly concerned I wouldn't even be able to touch the floor. Anyway, by 10 on Friday morning an item of beauty was sat on my driveway and thankfully despite being 5'4" it fits like a glove. I'm making every excuse under the sun to get out on it, even volunteered to go for nappies at 10 last night. Still break into a sweat at the prospect of a hill start/awkward parking spot/cobbles but so far so good - nothing too embarrassing. In short, I'm the happiest 41 year old I know and my long-lived dream's come true, after my 2 kids coming along this has got to be the next best thing! I'm waffling and I don't know bikes but I've got nothing but praise for the little black missile outside.

Blimey, must be an early 40's mid life crisis type thing, my story is pretty much the same :) Loving the Fazer now i'm learning it, new bridgestones are far better than the maxxis it came with.
