Tachometer reading high?
« on: 18 September 2021, 06:34:23 pm »
Hello everyone,

I have very recently bought a 2005 Fazer 1000 and I am loving her so far. There are a few things that need to be sorted out like the EXUP valved reinstalled as the previous owner removed the whole system.

I have noticed that she seems to show the idle speed at just over 1500 RPM yet to me and the garage who was looking over her it sounds like it is closer to 1000 RPM,

At 60MPH she is at about 4600RPM,

And finally when the EXUP faulty code comes up it shows 7500 on the Tacho rather than 7000 which I assume it should.

I recorded some vidoes to show whats happening
https://youtu.be/hHlyj2KlKao
https://youtu.be/IRFWKlyRFuU
from what I can tell the Tacho is showing 500RPM more in every situation more or less
Thanks,
Brian.

Has anyone experienced this problem before and know a solution?

Many thanks,
Brian

Solution is easy enough, remove  the clocks and remove the front cover. With the clock faces exposed gently rotate the needle on the tacho to about 9000 it should then drop down to the 6 o'clock position.
If it doesn't drop to the 6 o'clock position but beyond it, remove the needle.
Do this by using 2 teaspoons to lever the needle off gently by placing the spoon sides facing upwards on either side under the needle near the spindle and levering it upwards.
Replace the needle, but set to the 6 o'clock position. Push the needle back on, but not too far on, ensure it is the same height from the face as the speedo.
