« on: 03 March 2014, 09:42:15 pm »
Doing a bit of a garage clear out so selling a few bits and bobs and came across this little gem. It has done 28k and was bought as a replacement for my one (which had done 72k!) but I never got aruond to it and now i've sold the bike.

It's nice and clean, no leaks and looks to be in nice condition.

£50 + postage

For Sale & Wanted / OK OK, it's gotta go - CHEAP FZS600 for sale
« on: 22 July 2013, 02:39:12 pm »
Yep, my trusty old FZS600 is currently gathering dust in my garage and any grand plans of keeping it as a track bike or some sort of project bike are just not going to happen and I need the space so i'm flogging it cheap.

The details: -

1999 FZS600 in black
74k
Taxed until April 2014
Needs an MOT - Allowed it to expire as I now commute on a SV650 instead. I got lazy basically.

Good bits

Bombproof engine
Gearbox perfect
Brakes still sharp
Heated grips
fuel can
Motad exhaust system
Scottoiler

Bad bits

badly pitted forks
3 out of 8 exhaust studs snapped
Numerous marks and scuffs
Tatty engine paint, badly flaking
rear suspension shagged

The bike has been used as a winter commuter but has been loved and looked after where it needed to be. I don't have time or space to do anything with it anymore so it's got to go. It starts on the button and still has a strong heart, could be used as a winter hack for many years to come.

£495 ono - do your worst  :(

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZ1 fast idle
« on: 23 June 2013, 02:40:59 am »
I noticed today that my 07 FZ1 was idling at 1650rpm. Any ideas as to what could have caused this to happen?

I went to adjust the idle speed today but the whole cable twisted rather than turn inside itself so I guess somethings seized?

Had anyone had any similar experiences?

General / Temporary Insurance?
« on: 22 May 2013, 08:03:21 pm »
Does anybody know of any decent temporary insurers out there? Cant seem to find any, the ones that do show up on google dont actually provide the facility to quote!

A group of us have a ride out planned but my mate has just had his cbr600f nicked from outside his house - he's gutted of course! I said id lend him my FZS600 but its currently uninsured so was hoping we could do a 2 day cover from someone but im not having any luck :(

General / SV650S First Impressions
« on: 19 May 2013, 06:22:36 pm »
Yes yes, wrong forum I know but i'll throw in some comparisons against the FZS600 it replaced OK!?!  :rolleyes

So, if you've read my other thread, i've just bought a Suzuki SV650S to replace my ageing FZS600. Suzuki is a '56 plate, 12k miles and the FZS is a '99 plate with 73k miles.

First impressions of the Suzuki are that it's not as pokey as I expected for a twin and certainly nowhere near as quick as the FZS. The suspension is quite soft and the riding position is sportier which made my wrists ache by the time my 200 mile ride home was over.

However, there is something really nice about the thrum of a twin with a Scorpion can and it's so useable around town as you don't really need to change gear very often, it'll happily pull away at low revs in whatever gear you want really - that's a useful thing for the commute.

Is my Suzuki a better bike that my FZS....Yes (On account that it's much newer and better looking)
Is the SV650 a better bike than the FZS....No
Am I pleased that i've swapped....Yes
Am I going to miss the old FZS when she's gone....Yes!  :(

A plus for the Suzuki is the weight though, it's a feather-weight at 169kgs and you really feel the difference when tipping it into the corners. The chicken strips from the previous owner are well and truly gone now!

If it was my only bike I would definitely want a bit more power but as I have a FZ1 to satisfy that on the weekends, I think this SV is going to be a really good bike for the morning commute. The fact I got it for an absolute BARGAIN is even better!

So, watch out for a 'well used' but well loved FZS600 soon. Just need to strip off my Scottoiler and heated grips and it'll be up for sale....missus wont let me have 3 bikes...jeez!!  :rolleyes

General / Don't judge me but i'm getting a Suzuki!
« on: 13 May 2013, 08:27:27 am »
Well, so far i've owned 2 Fazers and a Fazer so I think it's time to branch out  :lol .

I've gone and put a deposit down on a SV650 to replace my ageing FZS600 commuter. I think i've made a good choice and everything I read about the SV tells me that it's going to be ideal for my commute to work. Lightweight, pokey twin, great handling and should be a laugh in a twisty section that I choose to ride.

I still have my FZ1 beast as my 'proper' bike though so you can't get rid of me that easily  ;)

Quick question though, i've checked on askMID and the SV i'm picking up isn't insured as the owner is riding a sports bike instead now. Does this mean that I cannot ride it even though my insurance allows me to ride other bikes?

Cheers

Well done to the person who photoshopped it but one thing has always bugged me and that's the rear wheel - looks like it's got a flat tyre!

Anyone fancy having a stab at sorting that last bit out? I would offer but i'm shite and only have MS Paint!  :'(

General / First Trackday - Cadwell Park - 10th March
« on: 01 March 2013, 12:20:45 pm »
Yep, all booked and ready to go. Sourced myself some leathers, got new brake pads on the front and gave the FZ1 a service.

I'm excited but nervous too!! Excited at the fact that it's a track day (obvious) but nervous about binning my bike!  :'(

I'm in the intermediate group as I consider myself to be a quick rider and I think the novice would be a bit too slow once i'm all warmed up etc. With trying to calm myself down about binning my bike, I keep telling myself that I haven't binned it yet and that's with lampposts, traffic, pedestrians, other traffic, crappy roads, diesel etc etc

So Foccers - please calm my nerves and tell me everything will be fine and my bike will be coming home in one piece  :\

General / Do you need leathers for a track day?
« on: 29 December 2012, 04:55:03 pm »
As above really, i have 2 piece textiles and dont really want to buy leathers just for a track day. Is it every track or do they vary regarding what you can and cant wear?

Peace out :)

General / Spot the odd one out
« on: 12 September 2012, 09:25:46 pm »

Replaced the plugs on my FZ1 a couple of weeks ago (mission!!) and the plug from cylinder 1 was white? What could have caused that then?

Noticed that the bike was running rich and have since had a custom fuel map built and installed onto my PC3 to sort that but clueless as to this white plug??

FZS600 Fazer / Sudden misfire and its not due to rain
« on: 07 August 2012, 09:31:18 pm »
As soon as i have i mentioned that im going to sell my FZS600 it has developed a sudden misfire. I was having a hoot on it yesterday scrubbing in a new front tyre but i needed to fill up. So, engine off, buy some fuel but when i restart it, it's only running on 3 cylinders.

Plugs are new, all leads are checked and connected properly. I'm thinking that the coil pack has gone kaput maybe? How do i check these things and any other ideas?

Cheers

FZS600 Fazer / What's it worth?
« on: 06 August 2012, 12:58:09 pm »
Hi guys & gals.

I'm thinking more and more about selling my FZS600 commuter bike as i've had one since 2006 and looking to buy something slightly younger. So, just trying to gauge what kind of money I might be able to get.

I'll put pics up before the end of the week but here's the details: -

2000 FZS600 in black
MOT till June 2013
8 mths tax
63,000 miles

Goodf stuff

Bombproof reliability - as a commuter it's never let me down
K&N filter - just re-oiled
New plugs
New Oil & Filter
Motad stainless pipes
Scottoiler
Oxford heated grips
Fuel can
BRAND SPANKING new Michelin Road Pilot 2 front tyre & plenty of meat on the rear (also RP2)
Fork seals replaced 6 mths ago
Brake caliper seals replaced & system bled and serviced 4 mths ago
C&S in good condition

Bad stuff

Forks are quite pitted
Some scratches on rear plastics due to soft luggage bungies rubbing
A few scratches on genny cover where I was clumsy and dropped it whilst trying to get onto centrestand

The bike is mechanically sound but the bodywork etc does show it's age and the fact that it's been used through all weather. Do you think i'd be asking for too much if I was happy to accept £1000?

Thoughts on a postcard

General / Stuck for a route - Final part of our Euro trip...help
« on: 12 June 2012, 12:24:41 pm »
Well in a couple of weeks me and a couple of mates are heading off for a week across Europe. We've got about 75% of the trip sorted but are stuck for the final bit so....

On Thursday morning we'll be waking up in Baden-Baden (love that name) and need to be back in Calais by Friday night. We've looked at heading towards Luxembourg but some of the routes look uninspiring so am after any suggestions.

We don't want to be ploughing hundreds of miles a day, approx between 200 - 250 miles tops a day. Any ideas?

General / Track bike - The law
« on: 11 June 2012, 03:45:04 pm »
I'm toying with the idea of buying myself a second hand track bike. Just at the beginning investigation phase at the moment but have a couple of questions that could be a deal breaker. Hopefully you wise old foccers can help?

So, if I intended on having a race prepped bike that I SOLELY was going to use on track days (ie, using a trailer and car to deliver it there etc), do I need to have it MOT'd or insured at all?

The only way this could work for me would be if it didn't cost me any money (except for depreciation) whilst it wasn't being used in the garage.....thoughts on a postcard folks  ;)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZ1 Service Intervals?
« on: 28 May 2012, 07:36:47 pm »
Hi all, I have a FZ1-SA and can't seem to find any information around service intervals? It's had regular oil/filter changes & general lubrication but is now almost 5 yrs old and on 17,600 miles.

Shouldn't there be a breakdown somewhere or minor/major service schedules with a dealer?

FZS600 Fazer / reasonable?
« on: 23 March 2012, 05:06:14 pm »
A mechanic quoted me 105 quid to replace the fork seals on my fzs600 which is for parts and labour. Is that in the right ballpark?

24
Bought a new battery and fitted it this evening. Not really paying attention and hooked up the power leads the wrong way only to see sparks from the batt and a bright glow in the corner of my eye.

Anyway, i'm a div I know but here's the fuse that appears to have blown....

Is this a master fuse to protect the bike's electrics and please can someone tell me that when I replace it, everything will be OK?  :'(

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Lumpy idle from cold
« on: 08 March 2012, 07:55:40 pm »
Started to notice that when I fire up my FZ1 from cold and let it idle, it starts sounding really lumpy and the revs swing from below 1k to above 1k and it generally sounds a little bit rough.

Once it's warm, idle is smooth and fine. Any ideas what it could be or do they all do that when cold?

It's got PC3, Ivans FCE, flies mod...dunno if that's relevant!?!

Answers on a postcard peeps  :D
