Title: Santa's Sack
Post by: YamFazFan on 17 December 2019, 08:56:56 pm
If you could choose any 3 motorcycles past or present (not including any you already own) to wake up to on Christmas Day morning what would they be?.

Firstly,
BMW R1250R - cos it's the best all round bike I've ever riden,
Vincent Black Lightning - I mean look at it!
Honda VFR750R - Not sure about this one, not sure I'll be able to ride it - but they are super lovely.

Good shout with the R1250R VNA.
I've not ridden one but I did have a go on an older R1100R and that was great too.
They look kinda cool too IMO!!!

The only boxer I had ridden before my shot on the R1250R was a R1100S.  It was OK, plenty of low down grunt, some mid-range and nothing up top.
It didn’t do much for me.

The 1250 makes a 106lbsft of torque, and 136bhp at 7700rpm.  It’s a seriously nice and seriously quick bike.  Low down grunt is nuts, plus there's plenty up top.

I’m not sure about the looks.  I kinda of think of it like I used to think of SAABs.  SAABs are so ugly and weird that you just keep staring at them, and eventually you love em for being different.

Anyway if YamFazFanSantaMan brings me one for Christmas that’ll be fine – save me buying one.

Surely you want the SP2 - they fixed the fuelling and the colours were so much better.  I quite a fancy an SP2, but I don't think I'd manage much more than 10 miles on one.

No, no, no, not the red and white R1, you want a 1999 blue one, the best colours and graphics of the originals.

Thinking about it again Dynspud,
Are you not missing a trick here?  I mean you ain’t paying for em.
Clearly a sports bike nut – so SP1 a good choice (I’d have the SP2 if I could ride it)
R1?  Common as muck bud.

Far be it for me to tell you what bikes you want.  But are you sure you wouldn’t rather have an R7?
New 2020 CBR1000 RR-R  fair enough.  That’s a lot of R’s :lol

All that design and effort but looks like some one forgot about the centre stand. Even the Fazer has a better looking stand.

Trust Fazersharp to pick on a bike for how it’s centre stand looks. :rolleyes   Foc me.  :lol

Yeah, it’s an option extra.  Kinda looks a bit DIY doesn’t it.  But what really gets me is why is a centre stand an option extra?  Shocking.  Though a snip at 145 quid for a BMW option.

Talking of the extras on the bike pictured.  The mirrors are from the extras catalogue and are mingin, and only 460 quid.  The classic cam covers come in at mere 1,250 quid.  That hideous front engine cover is 650 quid.   :lol

For me it’d have to be....
1. An RC30. The seminal road racer when I was young.
2. An Edwards rep Mille. I had one when they first came out and I wish I still had it. Loved that bike.
3. The new R1250RS Beemer. This is probably going to be my next bike purchase, unless Santa brings me one first.  :lol

gotta admit having having had a go on a mates 1250 beemer, the engine is just about perfect for a bike. Youd never believe it was a flat twin, especially if you had one back in the eighties(I had an ex police r100rt...truly truly godawful bike)

What was it?  R RS RT  Tell us more Ogri.  I just thought it has bags of power everywhere.  It picks up from nothing, sits up and tears towards the horizon.  But it also just rumbles away beneath you and is so refined and civilised.  Think I’m gonna get one.  And the riding position on the R just seemed perfect.  And it seemed fine cruising at 80, 85 despite being naked.

Talking of heated grips.  When I was sniffing about the MT10 I was gobsmacked to discover the official 150 quid heated grips wire directly to the battery.  Piss poor for a branded extra.

Wow!  It made an impression.

The 1250 shift cam engine, as they call it, is amazing.  And everything felt right about it to me and well screwed together.  It had the first modern dash I liked.  Which is interesting – I thought about getting the older R1200R, run that for a year or two then bag a lightly used 1250 – but the dash on the R1200R is possibly one of the worst ever fitted to a bike.  Yet the new colour TFT on the R1250R is just superb.

I do think I will have to order one in the new year.

Anyway I know you are getting on a bit Ogri :pokefun :lol , but sure you can't remember if it was an R RS RT or one of those monster GS things?

Ducati Streetfighter V4S.  You really fancy that Dude?  208bhp.  It’s a bit of a screamer as well.
Will be interesting to see what the press make of it.
But VNA just thinks it’s daft.  Bu then maybe I’m just getting old. :\

VNA reckons it’s pig ugly.  Maybe it will look better to me in the flesh.

I also reckon you need yer heid examined. :lol

I just don’t see it being that useful on the road, unless you are deranged or one of those folks who just wanna pose with the maddest thing out there – preferably whilst wearing a matching Ducati branded power-ranger suit.

You gonna take a demo for a spin?

Well eye of the beholder and all that Haha

And your not the first person to say that 🤪 your forgetting this is the person that found the MT-10 dull 🧐

Tbf it would be more useful on the road than any of the current bunch of 200bhp+ superbikes that plague the twisties all summer, just for the fact it has higher bars and a better seating position.

Also I'm not easily offended but how dare you insinuate that I would ever wear a matching branded piece of clothing to my bike..... those people are a special kind of sad IMO... they probably hang their clothes up on a wardrobe next to their POLITE vest 🤣🤣🤣

At the best part of £20,000 it is firmly out of my budget (hence being on my 'Santa list') so no I won't be trying to test one, unless I get to the Peterborough show early enough to book one before they are gone 🤔

I've part exchanged the Panigale for a Fazer 1000 in my wish list on medical grounds, ie the realisation that my back probably couldn't cope with the Ducati for more than 10 minutes :lol .

I quite liked the MT10 in a way, but it just hoisted it’s front wheel in the air all the time – it was just a bit daft and guzzled like foc, for no apparent reason.  Wasn't my cup of tea - a bit mad.

Test rides are free Dude – just check the excess.  Glasgow Ducati have an excess of 2k for the basic Ducatis running up the 6K for the fancy ones – needless to say I won’t test riding anything at Glasgow Ducati.

Paul (Ogri48) told me a tale of the saddest bikers (him & her) and their bike clothing (that was Ducati as well if I remember correctly) he'd seen when we went to the NEC for the bike show a few weeks ago.
I'll let him elaborate coz he tells it much better than me!!

The kinda folks I’m talking about – well you know the ones I mean.  If they change their bike and it’s a different brand or colour from the last one – well they gotta get new matching kit.

There’s a dude I see in my hometown during the summer.  Newish Honda Fireblade in repsol colours, he sports a matching repsol one piece racing suit and Mark Marquez hat.  I mean each to their own anyway.
