General / W.T.F is going on?

Why in God's name would anyone think that a scruffy 400 superdream is worth two and a half grand? :eek

I realise it's a topic that's been done to death but there seem to be so many opinions about the best way to go to improve the standard front end. I thought I  would try to get a consensus. I'm thinking of doing the emulator/ linear springs thing but it's an arse to do and not without risks and potential problems so what about progressives and 15w oil but there are at least half a dozen options there and they can't all be the same can they? I could start by just changing the oil out, I can't imagine it's ever been changed but do I put 10 or 15w in?
So I'm trying to get peoples assessments of whatever they've done, whether it has achieved what they set out to do and if was worth the cost and effort involved. thanks.

FZS600 Fazer / Are Fazers increasing in price?

Is it my imagination or do 600 Fazer prices seem to be creeping up recently?

FZS600 Fazer / Speedo started going mad.
« on: 07 April 2017, 11:01:18 pm »

I went out for a ride today and on the way home the speedo needle started waving around randomly, only slightly to begin with but by the time I got back it was thrashing about all over the place. When I checked it, the cable had been rubbing on the disc and had worn through to expose a tiny patch of wire that was shorting out on the disc, so I've rerouted it and I'm going to have to sort it properly tomorrow. I'll wrap some insulating tape round it for the time being but has anyone got any ideas for a more permanent repair without replacing the cable?

FZS600 Fazer / Engine surface temperature

Just out of interest, does anyone know what sort of maximum surface temperature the head and barrels reach on our engines?

FZS600 Fazer / Repainting the front of the engine.
« on: 02 April 2017, 09:06:49 pm »
At some point in the near future I'm going to be taking the exhaust and radiator off to repaint the front of the engine, do they all flake badly at the front? I had briefly considered removing the engine but it's a lot of arsing about so I'll just everything mask off. The front support bracket could also do with tidying up, So I was wondering, it looks like if I support the engine and take the bolts out, the bracket can be wiggled free and taken out. Does anyone know if this is possible?

FZS600 Fazer / Pillion verdict.
« on: 25 March 2017, 09:18:27 pm »
I took the OH on the back of the 600 today. We only did about 50 miles but she's happy and if she happy, I'm happy. The suspension coped better than I'd expected but it wasn't loaded with a weeks worth of female accoutrements + 2 clean tee-shirts and a spare pair of  boxers  :lol  The seats big enough and comfy, the footrests are in the right place and on the whole it's apparently a nice place to sit. All good so far :thumbup

FZS600 Fazer / Stainless Downpipes
« on: 25 March 2017, 10:30:36 am »

I'm sure I read somewhere that the later model fazers got stainless downpipes as standard, can anyone tell me if this is right or am I imagining it?

General / Green Plating?
« on: 15 March 2017, 09:04:02 pm »
Here's one you all you clever foccers out there. Does anybody know what electroplating Yamaha use on there nuts, bolts, pipes, clips etc? If anyone does know, do they also know who can replicate it? The closest I've seen is olive drab passivated zinc but I don't think it is. Any help would be very much appreciated.

General / average age?
« on: 11 March 2017, 12:07:26 am »

Nothing personal folks, just wondering what our average age is. Are we knocking on a bit or are we mere spring chickens? I know we're all under 25 in our heads but it's what's on our birth certificates that interests me.  How old are we as a breed of foccers?

FZS600 Fazer / Handlebar grip length
« on: 02 March 2017, 05:55:36 pm »
Apologies if this topic has already been covered but I'm buying s pair of oxford heated grips for my yet to be picked up 2003 600. I don't know which type to get. The touring type are 120mm long and the sorts type are 124mm long. I know I can trim them down if I need to but I would rather not. I would be very grateful if some kind soul could tell me what the standard grip length is. I'm not due to pick mine up 'til the 10th and it's 70 miles away so it's more convenient to ask on here than nip up there with a tape measure and I would like to have them here ready to fit when I get eventually get it. Thanks.

Introduction / Finally getting a Fazer
« on: 26 February 2017, 10:39:23 pm »

  hi all,
I first rode a boxeye about 6 years ago when I took one out from a local dealer for an hour or so. I loved it but my wife...err...didn't. So I kept my bmw which I eventually sold back in September. I wanted something lighter and more fun with an upright riding position and a decent pillion perch without stupid power, I looked at the 2016 er6f or Versys but because of a big DIY project in the house at the moment I won't get the chance to ride much this year so it would be a heavily depreciating ornament. So I sat the other half on the back of a foxeye and while it's no armchair it's apparently much better than the earlier model. So now I've got a deposit on a 9,000 mile, 2 owner 'Deep Purplish Blue' ? (I see no purple) 2003 fzs600 which I should be picking up in a week or so. It's had more paint than I would have expected for such a low mileage bike but the bodywork is mint, it gives me a project when...if the house is finished :lol  and it'll not lose much value when...if I come to sell it for a new bike. I'll post some pics when I've got it. Apologies for the rambling intro, I'm going now.
