Title: Car Oil in Fazer 400?
Post by: fazer400 on 26 June 2012, 08:08:04 pm
Hey guys, ive seen some posts that say its ok to use car oil in a motorbike. I have a fazer 400 and i could nt fine any bike oil after visiting 4 petrol stations so got some car oil instead.

I got Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 a3/b4 part synthetic for petrol and diesel cars.

Ive seen that e o oil isnt good and i dont see any references to eco stiff on the bottle. The closest reference it says is: castrols magnetic intelligent molecules bond to metal surfaces to make engine parts more resistant to wear.

Is this stuff safe to do an oil change on. My 1997 fazer?

Thanks guys

car oil can cause clutch slip cos of friction additives in the oil use a 10w40 bike specific oil from a bike shop or halfrauds

As above, Magnatec is a semi or fully synthetic oil with friction modifiers, put that in your bike and you will probably get clutch slip.

You can use 10W40 car or diesel oil as long as it doesn't contain friction modifiers i.e. the basic cheap stuff. If you are not sure use Bike specific oil.

My understanding is that very few car oils use friction modifiers.

However figuring out whether they do or not is easy.

Unfortunately often the only way to be 100% sure is to pay three times the price for a lower spec oil with a picture of a bike on the front.
