Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Gen 2 Fazer replacement options

Well, I'm coming up to 70 years old, have a few health issues and my wife says you cant take it with you. So I either spend my twilight years in a rocking chair watching daytime telly. Or I buy an MT10..

I collect it on Friday.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Gen 2 Fazer replacement options
« on: 05 June 2023, 09:10:09 am »
My Gen 2 Fazer that I bought new in 2009 was stolen on Friday and I wonder what others have replaced their Fazers with. I had fitted a top box in place of the rear pillion seat pad and the bike suited my needs perfectly.

What current bike has 1000cc, 150HP, around 200kg weight, a centre stand good wind protection, no electronics to fail (ABS, traction etc) and full service manual available online. The Tracer 9 seems a backward step, as do the litre sport tourer offerings from Kawasaki and Suzuki. Any thoughts welcome!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Gen 2 Ignition Lock
« on: 31 October 2018, 09:20:59 am »
Hi. I parked my 2009 Gen 2 bike in town recently and wonder if someone tried to steal it. I now notice that if I insert just the point of the ignition key into the lock, I can rotate the dust cover part freely and independently of the lock barrel. If I rotate the dust cover so that the key is aligned with the slot in the lock barrel, I can push the key fully into the lock and it works as normal.

My question - are all the locks like this where the dust cover freely rotates or has mine been forced in some way?

Thanks

Thanks for the help - there's a seat upholsterer in Bradford but you have to leave your seat with them to be reworked, so I went with the lower risk option of £10 padded shorts from Amazon. Worth a try, I thought.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Seat discomfort
« on: 19 June 2017, 02:25:26 am »
Hello there,

I've just come back from a long run up to the lakes on my 2009 Gen 2 FZ1S and gosh, my bottom is sore! All those poorly surfaced B and unclassified roads. I need a better padded, more comfortable seat. I hear mention of a factory Yamaha 'Comfort seat', but cannot find any for sale anywhere. Does anyone know where I can get one, or are there other options?

Thanks in anticipation, he said, somewhat stiffly.

Many thanks for that. Had a look on their site and they list the pads at £26.80 + vat. I have a nasty feeling that price is per calliper, so that's £64.32 plus postage. Gosh!

Hi
I need some new front pads for my 2009 Gen 2 FZ1 Fazer and would like to fit genuine OEM Yamaha ones. Does anyone know of a UK source? All the ebay listings are for non-Yamaha items.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. Your home made rack looks fine for a soft luggage bag. The bag you have atop your pillion seat looks like it would do for me.

I've searched a few previous posts and found a fabricated tin box that someone had made that replaced the pillion seat. It seemed to be met with some derision, though I thought it had promise if made from a plastic rather than steel.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Gen 2 top box options
« on: 05 June 2013, 08:24:38 am »
Hi. I'd like to fit a small (~25litre) top box to my 09 Gen 2 Fazer. Are there any that don't need permanent modifications to the bike to fit? I looked at the Givi mounting instructions and theirs seems to need the rear side panels cutting away slightly to clear the mounting frame.
I also wondered about buying a spare rear seat, cutting off the cover and padding and somehow screwing a top box mount to what remains. Has anyone tried this?
Thanks
