Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Recent clutch problem
« on: 11 June 2018, 08:34:11 pm »
A few weeks back whilst out riding with mates I missed a gear and hit the limiter on a false neutral. All seemed ok and a mile or so later stopped for a brew. Once I started up the bike again It did a massive clunk into 1st and then started to creep forward. Adjusting the cable either had the clutch slipping badly or creeping forward, nowhere in between. Anyways, today i took the clutch cover off and the plates out and found the shaft plug had fallen out. After reading about this on the American FZ01A site where other guys had the same feeling and experience as me and a few other guys had the same problem after false neutrals I thought I would share with you guys too.
Funnily enough I'm sure I have read about this problem on here or on the Fazer 1000 owners club many moons ago.
Pictures to follow

Where is the best place to buy a Yamaha clutch kit plus cable?
Or is an EBC one any good?

Cheers

Thanks for the response guys. I bought a Yausa OEM battery. The one i took out was the original and i thought if that one went 14 years then i might as well get another. £60 including delivery . Happy 😀

Hi there Waterhouse  and welcome.  You'll need to  change all of what you've said. Anything liquid or rubber, for starters.
Personally i wouldn't want  a bike like this, although it  must be immaculate.  Probably  carb issues will arise soon. Is the tank clean inside. Parking up for that length of time, why would anyone do that.  Anyway,  good luck

My last bike was a 929 FireBlade and i popped around a friends house. I had to do a U turn in the road so with both feet down i proceeded to do the manoeuvre  with my little feet padding on the road. As i was half way around the right peg hero blob caught in the top of my boot and dragged my boot pushing the sole into the tarmac. The boot gripped harder causing the boot to stay put as the bike still rolled forward.  Bike was leaning over slightly  but now there was no leg to support it and ever so slowly the bike and the stumpy pilot toppled over. Much to the hilarity of all the spectators.  Resulting in a cracked fairing and various scratches elsewhere.

Thanks guys. I'm after some for my car and even if the discount covers postage it's worth it.

Over the Mountain. It would be rude not too.
At first I braked but as the confidence grew I just managed to throttle off a bit and hang on. The second apex at Charlies caught me out a few times as did the Gooseneck. The Hairpin was better once I slowed down a bit too.

Is there a link anywhere we can get discounts for forum members at Opie oils. Or for any other retailers please?

Thanks,   Mickey

It was amazing. I was in the novice group as I've not been before but really, 90% were intermediate riders so it was very fast. It's quite a technical track so I was cautious for the first 2 sessions. You were right about the Mountain 5lv, 3rd gear was best and some nice floaters. I'm not any good at wheelies but by keeping the power on it was easy to keep the front hovering along above the tarmac. Chris Walker was instructing and is mates with a few in our group so a good laugh was had. Peter Hickman was walking around chatting, as was Terry Rymer.
I have been having problems with my right wrist for the last few months and this restricted me getting harder on it as twisting the throttle wide and braking hard caused my wrist to swell up plus the pain. Oh and talking of pain. Getting on the road for 0215 and then getting home for 2230, that was the real pain. Maybe camp next time.

My bike has all the worthwhile mods but has 43,000 on the clock and looks as tatty as a tatty thing. But goes so well and is fast as fook. Always surprising mates on their big 1400 sports tourers. What's it worth, bugger all but massive smiles for me

I'm taking the Mighty Fazer to Cadwell tomorrow (Monday 17th) for a little track day and was wondering if any other Foccers are going. On their Fazers or other track hacks?

I've just changed my oil and filter again and used a K&N. I don't know why i keep bothering. As said before, the little nut on the front is a waste of space and should be a 16mm or something but because of paint is slightly bigger but less than a 17. I'll hunt through my old Dad's Whitworth sockets for a size.

Yeah I know nothing is cheap in France apart from wine, bread & cheese.

With a Gallic shrug some would say that is all you need in life.

Thanks Slim, do you think this would work OK on a Gen1? Is it just a change the part mod. One for one?

I had a Micron fork brace fitted to my RD400E and it turned me into a riding God super hero. In my opinion anyway.

Quick action throttles tend to pull a lot of cable per degree of rotation, so might be a bit aggressive on a "Thou"?...Perfectly fine on a track bike but a rd bike needs a bit more throttle finesse.

Apparently an R6 throttle tube has a larger cable drum, hence pulls more cable than a standard Gen 1 "Thou" throttle tube, not as aggressive as a full on quick action but better than a "Thou" (apparently) ?
I'm considering getting one for mine.
Not sure if throttle housing will need some mods but it's been done before so i guess all the info is on web somewhere.

Cheap enough new, loads on Fleabay.

Interesting. I have small hands and bad wrist pains from a few broken wrists as a kid so a shorter action would suit me. I suppose the aggressiveness could be tuned out with getting used to it like most things. I'll have to look into the R6 option. Thanks

I've been having a bit of a problem with my wrist and was wondering if any of you guys use a quick action throttle on their Thou' and does it make for an easier ride?

Thanks,. Mickey
