Dunno why they changed the lights so you only get one dipped beam on a later fazer, guess it's EU regs or summat. Anyhow, I'm old and blind, my evening commute from Bristol to the heart of the Forest of Dean is quite terrifying in the dark, even more so when it's raining. Do they do brighter bulbs nowadays that don't burn hot and need updated fuses like the old 100 w halogens? I don't want the arse ache or cost of HID... :)
-
Dunno, but thanks for warning us when and where to avoid so we don't get taken out by the old, blind Fazer 1000 rider :lol
-
:lol :lol
-
Philips Xtreme or Osram Night Breakers are a good substitute with same fitting and wattage
-
Who are you people and what are you doing In my house... ;)
Cheers mate I'll give em a try..
-
Yup Phillips Extreme - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-12342XV-S2-Headlight-Twin-Pack/dp/B00NMEEOV2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479154339&sr=8-1&keywords=philips+h4+x-treme+vision+130 (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-12342XV-S2-Headlight-Twin-Pack/dp/B00NMEEOV2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479154339&sr=8-1&keywords=philips+h4+x-treme+vision+130)
Worthwhile improvement.
Osram should be good too. Wouldn't bother with anything else.
My 2004 both lamps work together, (2xH4) didn't ken they later dropped it to one for drip. Shouldn't be a difficult mod to fix.
-
cheers dude, appreciated

Have a look at LED bulbs. I used these (on a different bike) with good results: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01C8DKIPI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01C8DKIPI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1)

Intriguing mate... Are they saying you need to buy "outside error free resistors" or that they don't need anything else to work ?

The bulbs I linked to do not have a CANBUS, so can not be used on a bike with CANBUS unless you get a CANBUS eliminator. The Fazer couldn't even spell CANBUS so it really isn't a problem.

- LED replacement H4 bulbs mentioned by VNA
- I assume you referring to a gen2 - I would hazard a guess that the wiring is the same as it is on the gen 1. You just tap of the working dip beam lead (at the front loom connector end) and wire that to a right-angle spade connector to fit into the 3-pin H4 connector. Its a very easy job that take you no longer than hour to do. The alternator is rated to power both headlights inspite of the bullshit EU bollox and the fuse and wire should easily cope.
- Despite what everyone has said about better bulbs, unfortunately its a complete waste of time - as its only a little bit better. The £10-20 you spend on a these so called better bulbs is better spent else where -
- The issue is pretty much all HID kits dont have the correct beam pattern for the H4 hi/lo based head light units. But there is another option, LED spot lights - http://www.bikevis.com/product/bikevis-cree-v3-motorcycle-running-lights/ (http://www.bikevis.com/product/bikevis-cree-v3-motorcycle-running-lights/)
- IMHO these always come from China and never really work - but I am happy to be proven wrong. The market sorley needs a LED replacement fore the H4 bulb/fitting.
I have a set ob both my fazer (http://www.bikevis.com/forum/index.php?topic=1088.msg2576#msg2576) and my bandit (http://www.bikevis.com/forum/index.php?topic=969.msg2324#msg2324) and both sets are over 2yrs old and still going strong. They also kick out the same light as a single 35W HID and are fully legal.
On the fazer:

At some point I am thinking about going down the full projection conversion route, this would allow me to have dual hi/lo HID with a light out to that seen OM fitted units on cars.

cool post ,,was only complaining my eyes must be getting worse or my lights arent as good as i thought and i have have h4 bulbs which at the start were a nice improvement on standard, but mabey ive just got used to them or my eyes are fucked ,,might take a chance on those cree ones put um on the forks like that .

B1k3rtwit has spent too much time listening to second rate politicians blaming some one else for their failures and his problems that he doesn't even bother to check their lies anymore. It took me less than 5 minutes to find out what the law actually said. The EU regs are all on-line as the always have been and the ones that matter here Directive 2009/67/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 July 2009 on the installation of lighting and light-signalling devices on two or three-wheel motor vehicles: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX:32009L0067 (http://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX:32009L0067) Specifically, section 6.2.1 - 6.2. Dipped-beam headlamps
- 6.2.1. Number: one or two.
B1k3rtwit is wrong about the wiring being the same, but is right that the wiring change would be easy, however, you might be slightly disappointed putting a hi/lo beam bulb into a high beam reflector and expecting a lo beam result. An odd mistake to make for someone who knows beam patters so well...
The issue is pretty much all HID kits dont have the correct beam pattern for the H4 hi/lo based head light units.
Fortunatly, all H4-3 HID kits do have the correct beam pattern for H4 hi/lo based head light units.
The market sorley needs a LED replacement fore the H4 bulb/fitting.
That would be something like this then? https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01C8DKIPI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01C8DKIPI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1)

I went down the LED 'driving lights' alternative too.
Fitted 2 x 20W spot lights inside the fairing wired off a switched relay with a button fixed under the horn switch.
They are dipped enough not to dazzle people, but provide a huge amount of additional light for country roads. When these are on with the main beams it's really impressive.

That looks pukka. Twat that I am, I actually had a bulb out, so both lights on my gen one are now working ok. Replaced the bulbs with xenons, much better
-
glad you sorted it out,,you pulled some monkeys out of the trees with their answers .lol
by the way,, have you seen any bears in the forest yet,,or should you not ask, ?
-
lol no bears bill, plenty of boar :)
-
Boar, yes, I am off to Dorset hopefully next week shooting Deer with my mate who does game meat for a living, he shoots a patch in the Forest for Boar, I have not been there with him yet, soon I hope
-
We have to get a feller in from time to time when they are doing too much damage, he shoots them with a .308, I'm a member of Monmouth gun club, shoot a 22/10 and a .225 ( my favourite ) but it's all club target stuff, I ain't no good at killing things, never have been mate :-)
-
Often up in your neck of the woods ogri48, fishing the wonderful River Wye,between Ross and Monmouth.A beautiful part of the country for sure.
-
Yeah the Wye is not far at all, I use that valley road coming home from Chepstow, as you say a beautiful area and great biking road mate

Er, did someone shit in yer cornflakes ..?
- EU regs, who give's a shit beyond the fact it means we are forced to have one headlamp on instead of two..?
- I think you'll find I said and I quote "I would hazard a guess that the wiring is the same as it is on the gen 1"
- Regarding H4 HID kits, Google the facts you might learn something. In the meantime I will rely on the fact that I have fitted and used multiple HID kits H4, H7, 9006B and base my advise on verifiable hands on data.
- And Regarding H4 LED replacement bulbs I am more than happy for you to point me at a set that either you or someone else on here has tested with before and after pictures. And in gesture of putting my money were my mouth is, you find me a set of H4 LED bulbs that I can order for next day delivery on amazon and I will buy and test them...!!! I may even buy a H4 kit and do some comparison shots just to prove my points.
Kind regards

I went down the LED 'driving lights' alternative too, fitted 2 x 20W spot lights inside the fairing wired off a switched relay with a button fixed under the horn switch.
Got some shots of how you mounted them? as I am thinking of moving mine up to the fairing to avoid all the shit they get covered in...
-

Doh, you may still find getting a set of spots give you that little bit extra. When its wet I find even the two H4 on the Fazer dont illuminate the road as well as a generic car headlight does.
But for now hang fire, as per my reply to smithy I am gonna look at buying the latest gen (5th gen) CREE direct replacement bulbs.

I picked up some givi trekker 130 lights ofn ebay just gotta figure out how to fit them to the down tubesdown tubes

I bought something similar of ebay, with the idea of replacing the stock halogen bulbs with HID. I never did fit the set because there was no easy way to mount then without making up custom brackets to mount them to the forks. If you have a set of engine bars then peice of cake. Then there is the issue of adding a 55wx2 load to the alternator.

- And found the same set as per Amazon but Sunday delivery and £10 cheaper (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Safego-Headlight-Conversion-Warranty-PHL6E-H4/dp/B01H59HZ5G/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1481323049&sr=8-8&keywords=H4+hi%2Flo+LED).
Should the weather be good enough on Sunday I will post some fitting, and before & after shots.

Huh? I quoted from the EU regs that say you can have one headlight or two, why would you repeat the lie that says the EU forces you to have one only?
Did you also hazard a guess that a high/low bulb would work well in a high beam reflector?
You could google the 'facts', (you have been doing a very good job of it so far), but given that I have already posted pics of HID's on a Fazer, not of the bike (your looks good by the way) but of the light pattern on the wall, I think I can say I am speaking from both the 'facts' and from personal experience.
As for LEDs? Which part of the link I posted confused you? I am currently using the H7 version of those bulbs successfully on a Versys 1000 which has a single shitty low beam reflector and a separate, equally shitty high beam reflector. P.S. Do you think I should fit a H4 bulb in the high beam reflector?

no but they look ok mate. the difference between the expensive ones and the cheaper ones I put in my transit is both high and low beam are superb. on the cheaper ones low beam is excellent but high beam makes hardly any difference :(
-
Just fit the HID kit.
I've tried night breakers, 100w bulbs, but none compare to HID. You get a bit of scatter, but the focused part of the beam more than makes up for it.
As for the matter of scatter, you're on a bike that is bouncing around, so imo scatter is not really an issue.
As an aside, only ever got flashed when I forgot to dip the lights.
-
long time no speak mate. that new bike ok?
-
Gobsmackingly brilliant
-
I fitted nighteye LEDs, see the difference to standard, and the beam / throw is pretty good as well
-
I clicked on the previous link for the LED bulbs on Amazon and it says currently unavailable, I don't want to overload my charging system so am I better with LED bulbs and if so which ones, I don't mind them being expensive if they're good, or should I go with a HID kit, do they draw less current but produce more light?
Sorry to be thick but it would be nice to have some advice from those who have done either. :)
-
the expensive ones I got for me fazer are worth every penny as far as im concerned. theres no fan, but there is something akin to the ballast box you get with a HID. I had HID on my cb13, and it was nowhere near as good as these leds. They are plug and play, utterly brilliant on low and high beam, and still going strong after two winters and lots of miles. id go so far as to say the best money ive spent on my fazer, and ive spent quite a bit over the years..

Mine are the Amazon ones, Safego. Can't comment on the others. I have had a set in mine for about 18 months with no issues.

Thanks for the reply, I don't know if these are the same as Ogri48 fitted, were there any problems with fitting these as most f these by their nature appear to have quite a lump at the back end?
-
Yup they were safego mate
-
Shamelessly bumped up to see how people are getting on with these as I might have to get it done soon.
-
go led thats the way to go well cheap also
-
Absolutely no issues with my safego units.
-
yup my safeglows still going strong, and still whupping anything else ive tried
-
My Nighteye are great, and cheap, and bike passed MOT no problem. HTH
-
Could someone do me the favour of providing a link - preferably on amazon. My headlights are both dipped/full beam and I'd be looking to change the sidelights as well. There's so many out there that I want to make sure I get the correct ones. Thanks.

Just do a search or H4 led bulbs on amazon -
