That would be ideal!  Many thanks.  ;)

i own a 2004 FZS 1000, question is are the wheels originally finished in satin black or gloss, or a form of jap bike semi -gloss black I've heard of, a sort of mid way between the two?  P.S. that last bit could be bullshit someone has told me.  :rolleyes

« on: 14 August 2022, 06:11:59 pm »
NOW SORTED! :wall  Bent disc!!!!!! After trying to get the bead broken on my rear tyre, nightmare!  I decided to take it to a tyre dealer to have it removed. After gouging the alloy wheel they said they would repair and paint it, leave the tyre off I said and l would fit it myself for obvious reasons!  It returned with the now bent!!!! Disc removed after repair and paint, a very average job at best! Fitted the tyre and disc then the brake issue appeared! Turns out I could not remove the original tyre due to some detrimental injected shit like a tyre weld puncture repair type stuff which caused a combination of corrosion to the wheel inner, a white hard powdery stuff and black really sticky tar type stuff! P.S. It was not a motorcycle tyre dealer that did this! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!  :'( P.s. This place was run and staffed by morons!

Also know of a well known Yamaha pattern parts supplier who was selling gear change levers for a specific classic model, the wrong side of the spline split was tapped! When this was brought to his attention he said drill out the threads and fit a nut and bolt!…That’s nice and original! 😱💩.

As there are two Vauxhalls in my family I heard about this issue from other owners, other makes as well, but been lucky enough not to be caught out!  Good to hear that it is basically unheard of on a Fazer.  I will have another go at it.  Many Thanks

Recently fitted a new rear tyre to my old faithful Gen1, now the rear brake pedal goes right down after getting on the bike and riding it, even after bleeding the brake.   Question is have I turned over the seals in my rear master cylinder by forcing the disc between the pads and possibly forcing the piston back as can happen with other braking systems?   If so can I strip the cylinder and simply correct the seals or do I need a new set?  Or any suggestions?  :thumbup   I have bled many bike brakes before but never had this issue.  Many Thanks!

General / Re: E10 Winter storage. Starting up?
« on: 10 May 2022, 01:34:03 pm »
Started up the 05 FZS thou today, spun for a couple of seconds while I gave it a bit more choke and it fired up and ticked over as willingly as ever!  Thats after nearly seven months winter storage brimming with the dreaded E10!  Yes! I've listened to some pish about E10!  :rolleyes   Only did 27 miles because i'm nightshift tonight, but i must admit I really like this old bus!

Must agree with the social media/internet comment! “The internet is a mine of information” Yes, some very useful (as in this forum) and a great deal of it absolute 💩.  Good to know your mates bikes fired up o.k. 😉

Has anyone yet attempted to start their Fazer after a storage period of 6 months? I filled my Gen1 to the top with E10 which had a small quantity of engine oil added to possibly help reduce tank rust, I then blocked off the tank cap air vent with tape. These are two things I always do. Bike NEVER fails to start 1st time every time after 6 months storage. Owned five years. After storing I then started reading up about E10! 😢 Three months life span and all that. I don’t know how this will turn out but it will give me and others a definitive answer. 🤞

Sorry, but please bear with me here!  :'( I’ve looked at this post a couple of times, looked at the Fowler’s exploded view of the clutch parts and still cannot understand what this “centre cap” item is or where it goes. Had bike clutches stripped several times. Not an FZS one I admit!  :o   What is the part number on Fowler’s exploded view? Or is it supplied with shaft, item 20?

That’s not expensive for a fine FZS 1000! There is a silver 03 one on Autotrader, one owner from new, supposedly mint, under 8000 miles. £4995!  Seriously, try finding a really decent one, there is a lot of them about but good ones are now rare!

Yes. All the M10 bolts (and M12 for that matter) are 1.25mm pitch on our bikes. You should use the same tensile strength of bolt. This is marked on the bolt head but the Japanese designate this differently from Europe!  Just to complicate matters! 😥

General / Tubeless tyre valves?
« on: 19 October 2021, 06:00:49 pm »
I have changed many motorcycle tyres in my time mostly with inner tubes.  I have never changed a tubeless tyre valve, is there anything I need to know, are all valves the same or a specific fitment (FZS 1000). Plenty of videos on YouTube on changing them but don’t want to go to my local stealer to be charged a fortune for two basic valves.  :o

General / Re: Tyre removal/fitting lubricant?
« on: 08 October 2021, 06:36:36 pm »
Bought a tyre fitting machine a few years ago now as I was fed up with paying to have it done.
I've heard the same as you so have always used a dedicated lubricant for the job. I prefer the liquid to the grease though.
I will use a liquid as well, what product do you use?

Always fit my own bike tyres to prevent others butchering the rims, should I use genuine purpose made tyre lubricant?   Used washing up liquid in the past but been told it has salt in it which isn’t good for the alloy rims?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Dog Bones?
« on: 17 July 2021, 09:56:47 am »
How much is reasonable to lower a fzs 1000 by using longer dog bones before causing any other issues?   Could do to go down by say 20mm, is this reasonable?  I know the bike will be more awkward to put on the centre stand, any other issues?  Where is the best place to by some decent finished ones, don't want any old shite.

Aftermarket motorcycle alarms.  :rolleyes   Only good for making the people who sell/fit them money!  Otherwise a world of hurt!  :'(  Forget the “ cheaper insurance” pish only the people selling them push that one.  Avoid! Buy a lock and chain if you feel the need!

45
In decent nick if possible.  Thanks!  P.S  same on 600 and the 1000.

General / Re: Aftermarket motorcycle alarms?

Generally speaking, alarms on bikes are a waste of time. They flatten the battery but do very little to prevent theft. Then the alarm goes wrong.

You are better off spending the money on a decent chain/lock
Could not agree more!!!

General / Aftermarket motorcycle alarms?
« on: 03 July 2021, 08:23:12 pm »
Just wondered how many people thought the same way as myself.  Basically that they really are a total waste of money,  built  cheap as chips, but not to purchase, cause nothing but problems, remember you are cutting into your multi thousands of pounds motorcycle wiring loom!  :eek    Throwing in another very large concern when you have any kind of starting issue.  I personally will not buy a bike with any form of aftermarket alarm fitted, is is a definite minus against the machine for me.  There are so many posts with issues and questions on this site and others about alarm problems! I say avoid like the plague, but buying secondhand you may have to compromise.  I remember the early eighties when people would let others drill holes in their new cars, cut into looms and all the rest to fit the biggest load of electronic shite to their cars, they were heard going off all over the place if a shadow was cast on the car! :groan   Many people were of the mind set that they simply must have an alarm on their pride and joy!  Don't  start me on the fitting of aftermarket sun roofs.  Thankfully not required on a bike!  I know a guy with a mint pristine 1980 Ford RS2000....................... :\

Hi all, new to FZS1000s bought one recently very please with it, goes well got the 7k tacho so checked the exup valve it's seized solid and the pulley is rusty as old nail the prongs fell off when I touched them so no maintenance I suspect, if I remove it what will happen will it notice thanks 8

Things could be worse!  Spare a thought for this poor guy!  In the search facility at the top of the page search"removing the downpipes".  Where it says under username put in *solorider* it doesn't get much worse than this!  Do not know if he is still an FZS 1000 owner or if the whole affair broke him!  :'( No wonder!
