FZS600 Fazer / Re: Bike improvements
« on: 05 February 2012, 06:48:00 pm »
Hi,You won't get breaker prices for your old seat.As you are mainland there sould be specialists who can open up youre seat and place a gel pad inside, then replace the cover.I would think if may be slightly cheaper and you would have guaranteed comfort.i would have a crack at it myself if i were you as you may only get £20 for you're seat.Phone a few pro's and get a few prices first as the replacement may not be as comfortable as advertised. As far as bars go - I've just bought a set of Renthal lows 754 s.According to someone who has used them they will  fit okay.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Seized rear brake caliper
« on: 05 February 2012, 06:34:26 pm »
Haven/t suffered this problem yet,but apparently its a common Fazer problem. My old sumitomo's seized badly once but blew out okay,Sounds like a replacement caliper to me.Check this site as i think the Fazer 1000 is a straight swap, but a different type of caliper, therefore less prone to permanent seizure. If the piston is seized flush there is very little you can do.If you can catch a good edge Vise grips may release it,if you twist, but will damage the piston.

 Spin of a coin really.

General / Re: Quick straw poll - the welfare £26K cap - good or bad?

Yep! Know the feelin mate.Great topic - someones just opened up a real can of worms.Tho i have heard that some families in mainland on dss live in houses that a husband and wife (both working) could not afford.I think a cap needs to be implemented, but at a higher rate than proposed, and anyone out of work for more than a year should be forced to do community work.I wouldn.t object if it was me.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: replacing carbs
« on: 05 February 2012, 12:11:40 pm »
No guarantee that the carbs you buy,if they are 2nd hand ,will be any better than what you have.I would take them apart, clean them and replace the main jets and what the Yanks call emulsion tubes A guy in USA sells the kit but can,t remember his web address offhand. You may have to replace the float bowl gaskets also/If you decide to do this DO NOT seperate the carbs from the main bank of four or you will need new carbs,as you would need specialist calibration equipment to reset them.

« on: 05 February 2012, 12:01:58 pm »
All a matter of personal choice really.I have Fren pads front and rear and find them excellent.Others using the same will will have a similar view,or say they are crap.EBC sintered pads are generally reckoned to be the best for road use,as they improve braking in the wet,but will wear your discs quicker than greens.Remember ,brakes on a Fazer are from the R6 and are reckoned to be the best, bar none, in their class. Most riders will replace rubber brake lines with stainless, such as Hel,but i run on standard lines. The best aid to braking is getting a proper feel for you.re brakes and using the gearbox for engine braking at the right time and the right rpm.

Don,t use insructions for anything myself.Have an Oxford 600 and leave it on constantly.Shouldn,t do any harm as it,s just a very low powered trickle charger.Hasn,t done mi ne any harm.

Rules in N.I.(UK) are different.Rent is capped at £290pm.If you're rent is any dearer you pay the discrepancy out of you,re own pocket. All DSS are not the same.I have been made redundant 3 times, with no big pay offs.Presently in a 1 year temp contract for NICS,which will end in July.Probably have to sign on again, unless i,m one of the fortunate ones.

Hi,Had similar problems as i don,t ride in the winter any more (not since the old courier days) .I removed my battery and bought a maximiser/optimiser,as they are as cheap now as they,re ever going to be.Fazer doesn't have a big battery, and extreme cold will kill it.Some good deals on Oxford 600 on the bay at present,Oximiser is just  a re-marketed trickle charger. If cash is tight, the Chinese ones are around £6.

FZS600 Fazer / Pattern Parts?
« on: 05 February 2012, 08:27:02 am »
Just received fuel cap (pattern) from China for the grand sum of £12 freepost for MK1.Looked great until i tried to fit it ,Nice finish, hole spaces correct, arguably as good as oem,but sits high, ie not flush.Had a look at the seal and the aftermarket was thicker,so changed the inners and now it sits even higher, around 3mm.Will look at it again at some stage.Anyone had similar problems.Anyone tried the R1 ring and quick release fuel cap for fit? (3 holes).

Introduction / Just rode in to town!

Hi guys,Great site!
Just parted with the old Exup(gettin'on a bit) and ended up with a FZS600s.Unsure what to do with the old girl yet as shes had a minorish bump to the front end.At the end of the day she's good craic on the road and is definitely a keeper.Just finding my way round it at present,as i do most of my own work.May try the headlight mod or attempt to MKII the front end,may even just go for a respray in an odd non standard colour.
Well thats it from rainy old Belfast at the moment.Nice to see the old Fazers being given the respect they deserve,Cheers,D.
