his work is legendary and he will be just as remembered as the best drivers for our generation but he was just how you imagine him to be in person. he was the after dinner speaker at the annual motorsport club night and he had so many stories about james hunt being late for qualifying cos he was eventually found in the back of the hospitality area with his race suit round his ankles and the head bunny girl from the group of playboy bunnies that Lord Hesketh had hired to serve drinks in the VIP area!
it’s literally exactly what you have as a mental picture of James Hunt in the 70s and these days they can’t do a lap without the halo scaffolding in place to prevent any potential problem but back then James used to suffer from a hangover just a few hours before the race.
it’s a cool story but delivered by Murray’s wit and enthusiast narrative he had us in tears of laughter from start to finish.
