I'd definitely say you need a fluid change, so may aswell put on the steel lines while your at it, some new pads in and then a caliper 'deep clean'. If that still doesn't help then a full caliper strip and rebuild with new seals. That will be about as good as the brakes can get. If it still doesn't seem to stop well then you may want to look into the suspension
Got to agree with Dude here, if you still think the brakes are crap after doing this maintenance then something is seriously wrong. The blue spots have been highly rated since they were introduced. I’ve always found them to be superb stoppers.

You’ve been laying them with your Fazer?

I always use the key, mainly because of my other bike, a Triumph Daytona. There’s a quirk with them where damage has been known to happen to the ECU because of using the kill switch. When using the key a relay is activated keeping power to the ECU allowing a shutdown sequence to occur. This doesn’t happen using the kill switch which cuts power immediately, and has been known to cause irretrievable corruption of the ECU. Not something you really want, and would prove pretty costly.

My 1998 Red 600 has the code Vivid Red Cocktail 1. This is the solid Red I presume you mean, not the more metallic red of the 1999 model which I believe is Vivid Red Cocktail 7. I think you might have them mixed up.
I know it’s the right code because I bought a brand new fairing from Yamaha in this code.

When I did my fork legs, I removed them from the bike and did each one individually. I stripped the old paint off with a wire wheel on my bench grinder (a bit of a messy job) then degreased, masked up, two coats of zinc primer and two coats of silver smoothrite. All done with rattle cans.
I was really pleased with the finish. I did think about a clear coat on top but the smoothrite looks great and seems to be lasting ok.

Shouldn’t this be the 2019 picture challenge now?

Had my Fazer for about 3 1/2 years but it’s currently in bits awaiting a bit of a makeover/refurb and will become the missus’s second bike to keep the mileage down on her new VFR. My current ride is a BMW R9T and I’ve also got a Triumph Daytona 955 which unfortunately needs a new head gasket after it blew on the dyno There’s also an old Triumph Trophy 1200 at the back of the garage which may eventually be treated to a CRK roadster kit. Most likely it’ll just stay as a dust magnet

Stupid stupid design and positioning of some cars indicators making them harder to see, one in particular I noticed is the Qashqai.Look at this
Yes, I’ve nearly had a prang on a couple of occasions because of this. The DRLs don’t help either, being so bright. Then again, it does make it slightly easier to see the indicators if the lazy, useless foccers actually switch them on when changing direction. A rare occurrence around these parts! I noticed in your picture too fazersharp, that the indicator on the mirror doesn’t seem visible either. Another bit of crap design.

Really? Works very well doesn't it.
Reading the gumph on it makes it sounds a bit like the Snooper Radar and Lazer camera detector that I have the displeasure of owning. The manufacturer say it detects 100 percent of traffic cameras, all the different types and all the bands they use, it does all the fixed cameras, Gatso and Truvelo plus the new Muti Directional Truvelo and the even newer the Yellow Vulture camera.
The problem is it detects the cameras on temporary traffic lights, the camera on the automated doors at service stations, shops, Boots the Chemists or any automated doors on industrial estates that you happen to pass, it even detects the doors on my local doctors surgery. in fact its a cacophony of alarms every few yards along the road because it even picks up the proximity cameras that fitted to modern cars to warn the driver that someone is in their blind spot. You get so many warnings you either ignore it completely, shut it down, or silence it, In fact I think I might hit it with a hammer. The equipment on the roof of Gatwick Police Station seems to be about as much use as the Snooper, seeing as the things were flying around the air port for a not insignificant time.
What gets my goat is people who use different sized fonts in their replies I thought my eyesight was getting even worse as I read it

Foccing skanking petrol stations that charge you for air! I've been away for 3 weeks so the bike hasn't been ridden for around 1 month. Got her out yesterday, checked the pressures (which were both a little low) so thought I'd nip to a petrol station on the way to work and top them up. Get there and the cheeky bastards not only charge for air.... they want £1!!! One foccing pound for free air! Out of principle i refused to do it. Couldn't believe the cheek of it
The petrol station down the road from me was recently refurbished and they’ve got a new air machine. It’s gone up from 20p to 50p. I thought that was daylight robbery but a pound!

Fair point about not all disabilities being visible Darrsi but the way these two jumped out of their cars and were rushing into Next, I don't think either of them had any breathing difficulties
The one Dynspud pointed out probably has one for a relative who’s disabled, I used to have one for ferrying around the MIL who had terminal cancer but I’d never have used it if she wasn’t with me. That’s just foccing bone idleness! It’s a joke how easily some people get a blue badge though, unlike my mum who’s got osteoporosis and a pinned and plated leg after a bicycle accident which saw her retired early on medical grounds. She can’t walk very far at all but was turned down for a badge

its not self supporting.... it will fall over without a foot down
Oh - well I thought that was the whole point of the thing.
me too! what an utterly pointless bike/whadevvethefocitis (and this from a bloke who bought not one but two of their mto1's..)
I loved the MT01, it was such a laugh. Had one for a couple of days, borrowing it from a mate who owns a Yam dealers. I just giggled like a school kid when sat at lights because of how it jiggled about at tickover. As for the Niken, it’s a lot of money for something that will make you look like you can’t ride a proper motorbike, needing an extra stabilising wheel. Not for me I’m afraid.

Whereabouts are you Tigger? I know a great trimmer in Preston who’s done some seats for mine and the missus’s bikes. He does almost anything you can think of and it’s great quality. Here’s a seat he did for my Beemer. http://www.bootlegbikeseats.com/

Yeah I know this is well covered but - using phones at the wheel. Yesterday I couldn't believe my eyes - some stupid young girl in the next lane slowed to some lights (which quickly changed) and then sped up, all without lifting her head from the phone she was gawping at. I was close enough to see it was pictures not text she was looking at. Presumably she is an emergency heart surgeon and was Skyping a colleague in order to save a life, or something equally immediate and important. FFS.... When I gave her a blast of the horn and pointed at the phone she looked proper embarrassed. That should stop HER from using a phone at the wheel. For at least ten minutes...
I had a similar thing recently, mid 20s guy driving a transit van at about 60mph whilst texting. I came alongside (dual carriageway) and looked across shaking my head. His girlfriend sees me and nudges him as he’s not seen me and he quickly puts the phone down on the dash looking all embarrassed and sheepish, and starts apologising. I just give him the ‘dickhead’ signal and blast off down the road.

First post , so see how it goes. Went for short spin after MotoGP to get some new chain lube and decided to get Chain Wax. Never tried this before. Anyone know how good or bad it is.
Ive used Wurth chain wax for years. Great stuff, not messy and keeps the chain in good order. Then again, I do have a chain cleaning OCD

Good luck with getting another cheap bike. It’s a great way to learn new skills. I’d get yourself a workshop manual too, even a Haynes will be useful, and it’s free on here. http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?action=downloads;cat=2

I wouldn’t be going back to that garage for any work in the future, they’re either useless or sloppy workers. They really shouldn’t have let you ride away on the bike with the forks set up like that.

Car drivers that slow down for speed cameras when they are already going 20mph less than the limit!!!! The one that did it tonight nearly had 44 tonnes of lorry to help speed him back up again.
Also the idiots who slow down for a Gatso camera which is on the opposite side of the road......even when they are already going 20mph less than the limit!!!!
