there are loads out there done - but never a quick easy swap
i built an entire subframe for my old fz600 from a spare i had laying around for a race seat from a midi moto
an option could be to use a bolt on subframe, weld on some attatchment lugs so it becomes a bolt on, you could play with its geometry easier that way
ie - weld on top lugs and bolt then figure out the dimensions of the lower lugs to get seat angle or eurofighter arse up look.
that might be the way i go but i havent decided yet as i can use the bits i need to chop off the standard sub to make my eurofighter seat fit

i just wish people would stop building heaps by putting a seat hoop, a flat seat, exhaust wrap and some clip ons and saying its a custom built cafe racer when very little has been done and charging loads for a bike that in my opinion is not finished
not to mention exhaust wrap has no real place in the motorcycle world, we dont even use in in our rally cars where it would be usefull

if you look up fazer streetfighter on youtube the most many do is fit dominator headlights and chop off half the seat
i admit i am only at the headlight stage and airbox removal so far but it was just to get the thing on the road untill the full build starts
and i will put so much more money into the build than the bike will ever be worth but its what i like to do and enjoy every minute of doing it
the only way to really make money from custom builds is to build for other people and let them foot the cost of parts and your time

yep TPS on right hand side of the carbs
make sure it is all plugged in and contacts are clean (including under tank if there is another plug to the main loom)
i forget to plug mine in everytime i have the carbs off and think WTF for a second

mine is 'lumpy' at low revs/tickover and i know it is due to the pilot jets being blocked
are some of your exhaust downpipes cooler than others when ticking over/warming up
if so that is a good posibility

583
can only be the pilot jet on number three cylinder, make sure its clean

damn you beet me to the carb section - was leaving this till second as can be a bastard to get in there
- i have a pilot issue on mine at moment on 1+2 and ticks over like a lump just aint got the time to rip them out at the moment

when you say missfire there are so many meanings and i dont think any of them are applying here
a pop and a bang through your exhaust every so often is a missfire (missplaced firing)
but below 3000 rpm no bang, above 3000rpm a bang things are a little different
this is where things get interesting and somewhat difficult to identify through here (but have before)
starting with easiest to get access etc

can you smell petrol in your oil (take filler cap off and get your nose in there)
(if you can then blown gasket or piston rings kaput)

are you able to perform a compression test ??? check all 4 and write them down you will see if something is wrong
(below 3k rpm pressure could just leak into crank through a couple of routes gasket/piss rings or even badly seated valves )
(above 3k rpm its still leaking but not fast enough so still ignites)

these are only the two i would start with here because this has popped up a few times but described differently and has turned out as 2 blown gaskets (including my own) and one badly seated exhaust valve - thankfully both of these are relatively easy to fix if you have the time, patience and a little know how (or this forum to be pointed in right direction)
and in tommorows lesson we shall be looking at fuelling issues

THE FIXES
Blown gasket - REPLACE GASKET (bet you couldnt have guessed that :lol )
Non seating valve - Valve lapping then check clearances - its easy its basic its like being in the scouts before we had lighters (some might get that joke)
piston rings - pray that it isnt them (it is the least likely to be a problem)

thats always been my usual way of doing things - not anymore
thankfully i have got the bike back and have decided to to a full rebuild (might even reframe hardtail)
just have to decide which to do first the gsx chop or the fazer streetfighter

I've never really understood the café racer thing. Each to his own I guess, but basically it appears to me you're just removing all the practical good bits and devaluing a classic bike. Fair enough if you've just crashed it mind!  :'(

Ditch the air box and replace with air filters which are more expensive and difficult to set up and run optimally.
Remove the under-seat storage (toolbox, puncture kit, chain/lock and waterproofs gone).
Remove the fairing and any wind protection and comfort.
Fit clip on /dropped handlebars to create a less comfortable riding position.
Fit dinky indicators that no one can see.
Fit some dodgy radial oversized tyres and drop the forks to ruin the handling.
Then tell the insurance company about all the mod's and watch your premiums go up.

I s'pose on the upside you might like the look of it, even if you don't enjoy riding it so much.  ;) ;) :D :D :b :b :eek :eek

you tell you insurance company about your mods - fuck that lol

appears me and Celtic Dog have very different takes on the style Bobber
although a bobber is to a custom bike
what a cafe racer is to a daily ride bike
a trimmed down minimalist version of its original
i say daily ride loosly as i rode a gsx1100 chop for 5years as my daily but you know what i mean.

as you have the carbs out it is easy enough to hook a piece of pipe and see where things level out
check the manual on the height of fuel though as it changed part way through the manufacturing for some reason
y2k is 3mm above machined surface but i run mine at 4mm as im running the pods it seems the best performance and got rid of the 7k rpm stumble

easiest way to see lots of points is to do a wheelie down the highstreet
a byproduct is also shouting, blue lights, sirens and a uniformed man wanting to give you a race

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Buying carb mixture screws???
« on: 14 August 2017, 10:10:34 pm »
it was just the screw tips x head bit (if that makes sense)
still does everything as it should for now
getting it out was easy just using a hacksaw blade to cut a new groove although that did damage the carb body a bit but needs must

FZS600 Fazer / Buying carb mixture screws???
« on: 14 August 2017, 05:17:33 pm »
well had my carbs off again as i had to reset the float heights again as i was off a bit and running lean
and noticed one of my fuel mixture screws was snapped at the head
anyone know where i can get them at a decent price - £25 upwards seems extortionate
i cut a groove in it with a hacksaw so can still be adjusted if i dont get new ones

i wouldnt bother with the gasket but if you really want something there use a gasket compound as its designed exactly for that job

there might be a way to clear crap out of the needle valve without taking the carbs out but dont hold me to this

pick a carb  (one at a time) and put on a drian pipe and drain into a petrol can then turn ignition on so fuel pump starts running
as the drain screw is open you will get fuel flowing at full whack through that one needle and may dislodge the bit of crap (if there)
ignition off, drain screw tightened and repeat to other carb bowls.
shouldnt take more than an hour i would have thought and is only a theory.
