Hello,
so got a 2002 french import Fazer 1000 thats been Ivanized last year and a keeper (thanks mike). I can't get a new GB headlight assembly 5LV-84310-10 for love nor money. Got a spare supposedly uk headlight unit that came off a Fazer 600 off of ebay with a battered casing, 3 lugs missing, scratched lenses. Also no 5LV part number that i can see on either.
My original french headlight casing and lenses are in good nick, got all the lugs intact. The reflectors inside the battered headlight which I am hoping is a UK one have got P1191 stamped on them with a code M60+GF10. The French reflectors have got 5868 and same code M60+GF10.
I want to crack them open and rebuild the French headlightlight with the P1191 reflectors to get a UK compliant headlight.
Can anyone tell me if these P1191 reflectors are for a UK headlight ? also do I have to bake the headlight to crack the lenses off ? I have got the headlight unit off the bike no drama and am ready to go here.
Any advice welcome,
Stuart

Can't help with confirmation on the actual reflectors but did a similar swap many years ago with '99 model R1 lights. I found the front and rear sections of the headlight unit mouldings were held together with snap lugs (easy to prize open) and black mastic.
If the Fazer headlight unit is of similar construction, you should be able to split them and sort the reflectors easily enough. Maybe consider a bit of heat gun or hair dryer warming to make it all separate more easily.
-
Thank-you for that Mike, I have actually got a heat gun. I will dig it out now as would prefer using that more than baking it.

The 600 and 1000 are different shapes.
Have a look on one of the French (or other) expat forums as there are always people looking for EU lights for their British spec bikes they have taken over to France etc

The Box eye headlight is totally different to the Fzs1000, but the foxeye 600 headlight are exactly the same.
I have swapped the reflectors on a few occasions converting the lights from EU to Irish/UK (get a damaged unit with good reflectors)
The line in the reflectors will angle down on the right (left looking in to the unit from the front) on the Irish/Uk models and the left (right looking in from the front)on the EU model. The USA ones are straight lined.
A heat gun will suffice with care, left and right lens come off indivudally not one complete lens like the boxeye
The reflectors are held in by the 2 adjusters and a ball end and plastic clip.
Measure the heights of the reflectors near the adjusters to make setting up the lights easier when finished

Cheers lads,
The reflectors fitted up exactly right from the 600 fazer headlight unit. Only thing different to the french reflectors is the pattern lines on the shiny side is opposite on the uk ones. I got bored with the hairdryer and remembered i lent my heat gun out and its 80 miles away so I stuck the complete unit in the oven on 130C for 5 minutes from cold and the lenses peeled off lovely with a flat bladed screwdriver, i nearly got it all back together now.
What a lovely day for a sweet fix.

Glad your reflector swap went ok. Good luck with exup valve. Plenty of advice here if all goes well.....even more if it doesn't :lol .

Just LOVING life today
Do yourself a favour and replace those 3 stubby bolts with titanium, they can be found cheap enough and it will save you a lot of stress down the road.

Appreciate that, thanks.
Only just got away with not rounding off two of those you are saying about cracking them off, they were that well rusted on.

Also dont forget to put some coppa or alu slip on them, I reapply said greese once every 3 months as its only a 10 mins job.
-
stainless bolts turned up today in the post, I have got some ultra high heat brake pin grease in stock for a car, cost a packet. Soon as it stops raining its getting done, thanks b1k3rdude

Glad you didn't have to get the drill out. On the copper grease front, I don't think there's any advantage in using the expensive stuff if you maintain the valve every 6-9 months. I've used both and can't really notice much difference. Only saying in case you'd rather save it for using on pad pins etc.

Cheers Robbo,
Few little jobs lined up now and got an R6 shock on the way when this here is done. Pissing down still, be sweet if my girlfriend will be alright with me working on it in our conservatory, get it sorted and we can get out on it.

Just serviced mine, and should have said replace 6, because here is what mine look like -
The first pic starting at the top, is of the header bolts, rad bracket and then all the exup bits
Then after I had cleaned up the exup valve parts, see the 3x titanium allen bolts they are the ones that snap. I will be replacing the 3x stubby M6 (8mm head) bolts with titanium in due course. The rusty rad and exup cable brackets and pully were treated with Hammerite Kurust

Good pictures b1k3rdude,
I can see exactly what you mean there, appreciate you posting them up. Glad I had a look this morning as just on my way outside to replace all mine with new stainless ones, then do an oil and filter, plugs and replace the shock with an R6 one from luke.
-
Few jobs done yesterday, Exup valve and cover bolts swapped out for lubed up stainless ones, oil and filter done as was the shock swapped out for the R6 one (thanks Luke). One thing that beat me was the plugs, nothing I had in my toolbox would fit to free them off so bought a Yam toolbox type spanner and will do it the weekend. Going to clean up the minging chain today and lube that up as got a big ride tomorrow and thursday.
