Hello all.
I just recently bought a used Fazer 1999 with 41.000 Miles. This is my second bike overall. My previous one was a Honda CBF500 from 2005.
I would like to have your opinion on the following: I find the sound engine is always asking for an upper gear from about 3000-3500 RPM. I frequently try to find a "7th gear" when its revving 3000-4000 RPM. At 5000 RPM it sound as if I am on the redline. Also the foot pegs vibrate quite a bit. Is this normal? I feel the engine sound strange as if the engine is stretching out and asking for an upper gear on low RPM. Would this be because I am not used to the sound of a 4 cylinder 95 BHP comparing to a former 2 Cylinder 50 BHP bike? Or there might be an issue?
Any opinions, specially from previous 2 cylinder lower BHP previous bike owners?

A lot of it will be just you getting used to the bike. Going for another gear (7th) is quite normal. We all do it :)
As for the vibration, do you know when the carbs were last balanced? This makes a big difference to the vibration.

Does it rev cleanly up to the redline when in neutral? If not try these first.
Check air filter is clean, if not change it.
Check petrol filter is clean, if not change it.
Clean and regap the spark plugs, these might need replacing also.
If you are capable clean the carburetors.
Also check all the HT leads and spark plug caps.

I would concur, you're just not used to the sound.
I rode twins for 20 years and it took a year of every day use to feel comfortable with going above 6000 rpm.

It's an inline-4. It'll always be happiest when it's screaming!
Keep it spinning, it'll keep you grinning! Think of it as a formula 1 car. :-)
It'll have a completely different sound and torque curve compared to your old parallel twin. Once you've had an inline-4 everything else just feels lazy and sluggish. Keep her near the redline, she'll love it!
