Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZS 1000 Givi Rack
« on: 23 May 2016, 10:09:12 pm »
Are there two versions of this rack, one with adjustable mounting points and one without? All I can find online is the one I used to own myself, which just has four bolts that mount the plate straight to the rack without the adjustable hinges. I have found pictures online though showing the adjustable ones which I'd much prefer, always found the fixed rack a bit too close for comfort on the FZS

Put the year of your bike up mate and I'll check the spring rate for it - will be able to let you know how close it is.
In general though the FZ1 shock isn't particularly good from what I've experienced, for my (10 and a bit stone weight) it was relatively seriously oversprung and also underdamped, best (but most expensive) bet budget allowing is to buy a decent aftermarket shock for it. My personal vote would be one of the Nitron range

Is your fazer powered by water

Lovely looking pair of bikes there!

Got one myself (2000) - well worth him getting on to zx-9r.net

100 miles a tank is what I would get thrashing (and I mean a full tank of complete mayhem) - commuting on mine at the moment I'm getting over 55mpg like clockwork and hitting reserve at about 190.

If he's got a B, ignore what I'm about to say. If it's a C, then he can sort the following:
Pickup and low speed throttle openings (below about 3k) are snatchy/lumpy as standard on them. Most people on the forums recommend adjusting the pilots (will check what the settings recommended for the Cs are as I only know the later models), fitting an ignition advancer and balancing the carbs should work wonders.
They're not well known for wearing the emulsion tubes, unless they've had dynojet needles fitted as they had a bad batch that did cause that. A pretty common upgrade is to fit very small washers under the stock needles to lift them a little bit - smooths out and gives a power boost in the midrange (they run lean as stock).

I didn't realise the Fazers had adjustable needles in them as standard!

update, insurance WILL let me put a PCIII on it, 40 quid more....i don't see why but what can you do!

Don't think I'd bother personally - you could have just claimed you didn't know! (obviously a bit difficult if you'd rung up about it though  :lol )

Hypothetically thinking. If you were single and with no one else to worry about and you had £40,000 in the bank what would you do?
I'm thinking maybe a massive road trip on the bike. But what bike? I have a cracking Fazer 1000 with all the Mods done that I need, it's a great bike for commuting but would it be my best choice for going around the world? Bearing in mind I don't know what types of road I'll be riding and I'm a short Arse and not the strongest of blokes for picking up a fully loaded bike. Also what would you take with you? I've been reading about loads of guys who have done similar and they have spare tyres and all kinds of stuff strapped onto their bikes. I would take a 2 man tent, plus a roll bag with some clean pants and socks but what else would be a bare minimum. What tools would be best? And also, what bike maintenance knowledge would be essential?

Mickey

What would I do currently? Take that £40k and put it towards a house deposit!  :lol

Just as I thought, thanks. It's a shame they don't make a rack for them as I always thought it would help to make the gen 1 look more modern fully dressed for touring.

Is this not Gen 1?

Yes - but for the older givi monokey panniers, not the PLX type (if you have a nose at the PLX panniers they kind of hug in around the exhausts)

when you say its getting a little bit cold ( & noting your from Asia) what temperature are you talking about?
10°C to 4°C here today, and rainning, and will keep ranning. though I never saw a snow here,  but without indoor heating system, it's really cold.

That's a Scottish summer that is!  :lol

Worth buying back as scrap, either to repair or sell on? Might be able to pick up a few extra hundred quid by just sticking it on eBay depending on how bad its damaged and what they'd charge you to keep it?

List price is £95 ...... Loads of traders selling them for £90.
Now if it's the e system you're selling for £90 .....  ;)

List price is £99.95 - which is also the cheapest I can find them selling for (posted) on eBay. Can't find them any cheaper elsewhere either

Will drop price to £85 posted!

No matter how I ride I always seem to get roughly 200 miles to a tank (20l), which is about 45mpg 55 mpg.

Most folk seem to get about 10mpg more so I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong!

FTFY when you do 200 miles per 17L (because you never spend all 20L) is exactly 55 mpg.

You are fine  :)
Oh that's good news then, so what I was doing wrong was the maths, not my riding.

Sorry fella, it is your riding! You've got a 22L tank on your Foxeye, not the 20L tank used to work it out!

My 19 year old mate is after a 400 due to his license restrictions, thought I'd put the feelers out on here!

Is he on the restricted license, restricted down to (i think) 47hp and not able to ride something with more than 2x that power unrestricted?

if so he can ride the hornet, fzs 600 and bandit 6s - there's links on both here and the hornet forum to official statements from honda saying as they both put out something like 94 hp so are eligible, and the bandit just isn't powerful enough anyway  :lol

Wrong model  :lol

Fugly and a little souless or not, you can't fault Hondas build quality. Only had one, a VF500 when I passed my test, brilliant bike if a little expensive on servicing. Just never found anything else after that that caught my eye, well RC30 maybe but look at the price tag

Seem to have gone slightly off topic

Yeah gold swing arm for colour balance...... :D

Unless it's had a later F model mirror/clock bracket fitted your E should have the H-bar bracket holding the mirrors up, same as on the old fireblades? Binned mine personally and put the F bracket on, huge visual improvement IMO!

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Re: R6 throttle tube on FZ8
« on: 08 December 2015, 02:35:58 pm »
It doesn't affect fueling at all mate - you'll just get to fully open with less twist needed.

Heated grips wise - really thin flat head screwdriver between the grip and the existing tube, spray some wd40 (or similar) in and do it all the way round. It'll come off nice and easily assuming you didn't absolutely coat the thing in superglue putting them on!

180mpg is pretty bloody good going, with a 21L tank that works out at a range of about 800 miles  :b

Interesting point from Joe about rear sets.........i had them on my FZ1 & there was no ammount of adjusting that would make them comfortable.......but this was on an upright bike.

Guessing that Anutz is reasonably tall, above 5 foot 10.........then leg position may also play a part in deciding.

I suppose that with lying down you can then extend the legs backwards and perhaps there is a sportsbike out there that has a long hirizontal reach to the pegs.......mentioned this a few times before but i sat on an R1 once......i think it was only a few years old.....again i was surprised as to look at i thought theres no way that will be comfy but because i was lying down my feet on the rearsets felt quite natural as if i could happily lie there like a wild cat lying on a branch.

But yeh if i was looking for a sports bike i think thats what id do...measure the horizontal distance to the pegs.....they all have to have a certain distance vertically to stop grounding but nobody seems to mention the horizontal distance.

Other option Noggy - you can get jack up plates (poor mans rearsets) for nearly every bike off eBay. Just flip them to the other side and they're now down and back instead of up and forward. Quite a lot of the older guys have done that on the ZX9R forum so they can keep riding them at 70+!

Main reason for going naked is to slow me down, cant keep riding around at stupid speeds or it'll be prison or a really bad accident

So you're selling the ZX-9R I take it?  :lol

Still confused?????
So can I get my Fazer restricted for my son? How or where can I get an official definitive answer?? If the Fazer is no good then I need to find out what his options are and think about just keeping the fazer for me. Not that I have a problem with that its just going to cost me!!! as sons always do. lol

See this thread.  :thumbup

Looks promising, but who do you believe, Yamaha or the government guidelines?
Easiest way for sure would be to ask an insurance company I s'pose, because there'd be no point in taking a chance with the Yamaha guideline then finding out nobody will touch you with insurance!
My guess is they'll sway with the government rules.

Insurance companies don't ask what type of license you have its either provisional or full and I would assume A2 falls under full.

Also as long as young drewblez keeps a certificate something looking official under the seat saying restricted to 47 ponies in the unlikely event he was to get pulled it would see most off and unless plod had a rolling road up his ass he wouldn't be able to tell either way.

OP do it.

Agreed. You can buy restrictor kits and get it restricted with a certificate, and the insurance companies likely won't ask. Was the same issue on the hornet forum, that technically puts out 95hp so is literally just over the maximum but a lot of people have had it restricted anyway and had no issues

Plus on the above link Yamaha quote it at 93hp anyway so you're sorted!

alternatively one metal mallet (flat end) or an anvil-like surface, a ball-peen hammer and a set of mole grips will do the job nicely!
