That's looking good. I've just taken my R1 front end of mine and put her back to stock...still love the old girl, but she's lost a bit of her good looks  :o

I bought Alpinestar (insert model number here?????) ones. They've done me 5 winters of every day riding and have worn very well. Toasty warm during scottish winters and 100% dry every time. they cost £99 quid at the time..

They're shot now, but that's mainly because I can feel the cold on my finger tips now..

Took her out for a blast along the mean streets of toryglen. Loaded the boot with baby food, nappies & wipes, then put her back in the garage & lubed the chain :D
L
But she was in a thousand serviceable pieces this time last week

and as Ginge says, go for the Chinese kits...a damn site cheaper and do the job just as well as the premium kits

Yup as Aegis pointed out I fitted a HID kit to my Gen 1 about 3 or 4 years ago. I bought a single kit from fleabay for about 40 squid (chinese supplier). and it was a straight forward fit (fitted to the right hand lens as you're sat on the bike). Ballast tucked under the right fairing infill & a straight fit into the bulb holder. I just kept the standard bulb in  the left lens. My intention was to eventually do the left lense with a HID, but in all honesty, it's just not necessary as the other one is so bloody good.

My bike is ridden all year round all weather & the 40 quid kit has given me no problems what-so-ever; still on the original bulb.

It's just been through it's 3rd MOT with the kit fitted with no problems. I've been on 3 police lead instruction days & have had the bike looked over by, "traffic" after being stopped a couple of times...never has the HID been commented on negatively.

as for blinding oncoming traffic, i feel that If it's fitted well and the aim is correct with the riders (and more) weight on the bike, it shouldn't be an issue. but I know folk will contest that. I've not had any of the folks putting their lights on to high beam to tell me i'm blinding them.

Is it necessary in towns and city's? prolly not, but if you live in or commute through the countryside or enjoy a right good ride in the countryside in the dark  ;)  then imho, it's well worth doing.

I know it's not the highlands, but there must be bunkhouse type set-ups somewhere around the A7?

Could head out to alot of different destinations from there..? Great road to begin with, access to the lakes & Yorks (I know that's England) for the sightseers..East coast runs to Berwick upon tweed for fish & chips, Edinburger for Castle storming, East Fortune for Flight Museum/track day and countless, "off the beaten track, stunning view type roads"

You could even squeeze in a day trip to Ireland for those who like long miles & longer days?? :eek

Hi mate, It has been a very long time..been away from the forum for the best part of two years, in an attempt to fine tune my parenting skils to two lovely wee girls that the stork delivered to Gill & myself. They've taken up any spare time that both of us use to have...well worth it though  :)

I haven't really had a good snoop around the new board yet, so I've not seen the Glen thread yet; will take a look there now.
