Cracked top fairing
« on: 20 January 2014, 10:00:29 am »
I have an 01 round shaped fairing FZS 600 that is both stress fractured and cracked, all on one side.

Couple of questions for people out there:

Does anyone know of somewhere I can get the fairing repaired in Norfolk or Suffolk, and

If I were to replace is it practical to update the fairing with the facelift 02/03 version?

Cheers

You're asking us if you're a professional plastic welder?
Some say...

Much easier to repair or have the cracked fairing repaired.
Fitting the 02/03 Foxeye fairing has been well covered here   http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,5252.0.html
You do get much better lights but it is not straight forward and won't be cheap by the time you have sourced all the parts.

Just noticed timsky99 that this is your first post so a warm welcome to the site. There is a wide wealth of knowledge on here so enjoy and benefit from it.

Alternatively, you go for a cheap fibre glass copy off ebay. Was a Fox eye one, came in for a bit over a tonne, which is not far off what I was quoted to get mine repaired... Been quoted around another £100 to get it sprayed professionally, which I'd need to do either way. Mine was from a company called CWC and seems pretty decent and fits well, only slight downside is a couple of the clips the infills slide into are missing, but otherwise grand. Some pics here on my blog:

hi deefer666 - many thanks for your reply, if I send pics would you be able to give an estimate to repair?

hi limax2 and thank you for the welcome - unfortunately the link isn't working for me so i'll do a bit of digging on the site to see if I can get the info. I always preferred the foxeye fairing so will give that every consideration.

hi arfa - great blog and thanks for the info

cheers all  :)

hi limax2 - link is now working, loads of info on the conversion and being a hands off type of rider it all looks a bit beyond my simple capabilities, was hoping it might have been a lot more straightforward. Think i'll be looking at the repairing option but your help is much appreciated, cheers

I agree the repair option looks the best bet.
Bit strange the link didn't work the first time because it has just done the same thing with me. When I was about to tell you where to find the post, there the link was working again.
Good luck with the repair.
