Headlight bulb change
« on: 12 September 2014, 12:40:00 pm »
Ithe low beam bulb went the other day, I've bought a set of Philips xtreme vision bulbs. Question is I know it's simple but how do I change the bulbs over?

Pull plug off the bulb terminals , remove rubber cover, there is a spring clip hinged at 1 side, release it and the bulb is now able to be removed. Fitting is in reverse. I found that if the bulb is not seated all the way in, I fabricated a metal spacer abont 2mm thick (not plastic, it will melt, gluing your bulb in) to achieve this, this moves the filament further back in the headlight and seams to give a better spread of light on the road or shorter bulb also does this.

Don't forget you have 2 types of bulbs fitted. The normal dip beam is type H1 whilst the main beam or "high" is a type H4 with only one of the 2 elements wired.

Many on here have wired up the extra element on the H4 in order to have both lamps lit on dipped beam.
Those are my principles...if you don't like them I have others.

Have a good look before removing it where the clip actually sits, because it's a funny old shape.

Cheers guys, I thought it was that way. Always safe to ask someone who knows. Don't want to make a hash of it. The bulbs are Philips extreme vision h4s. Should be better than the stock candles lol

You haven't actually said if you've done the headlight mod?
Because if you haven't then the low beam won't be used anyway.
