I'd go for the second one. Looks in nicer condition and a better colour scheme. Albeit a higher milage...

Hope you heal up soon mate!

All the best,

It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

Same, although 28k is still not high :)

It's also got a rack, adjustable front forks, later clocks and stainless downpipes(?) too.

 -Edit-
Weren't the carbon-look clocks and adjustable shocks brought in for 2001?

I'd go for the second one too.

There is only 13k miles of a difference between the two bikes. The 2nd bike has only 28k....that's nothing. "Unfazed" has 74k up on his and it's still going strong.

As others mentioned, you have extras on the 2nd bike like a rack to bungee stuff onto it or mount a box. And you also have stainless pipes and adjustable forks.  And while you are at it, you can ask for the front sprocket nut to be sorted as part of the deal. They will oblige just to complete the sale.

But if you want a totally original bike which some prefer, you can't go wrong with the 1st bike either. So it's original + lower mileage - v - Slightly higher mileage + add ons

I'm wondering why it has the new forks and clocks on an old bike...?

For £1800 you have pick of pretty much any mk1 fazer so don't rush into buying anything. Have a look at a few. But of those two I'd go for the lower mile one

O.K 3 to 1 in favour of the second one

Looking everynight Dudeness

I must tell you guys i forgot this, the first one has been stood a long time so the dealer needs to drain the fuel system which is included in the price.

Sorry Lawrence can,t help you on that one,but i do have another question,i was or will be putting a s/s back section on and a k&n filter, then got told i may need the carbs rejetting, fair enough until i see the bloody price of a jet kit £112 kinda like puts me off getting a rear exhaust,is there any cheaper way coz the money pot will very soon be empty before i even get to sorting the jets out.

Re forks - pre-load was added in 2000.

Re clocks - there's only a single display so it's deffo old i.e. pre 2000, the later ones had a second digital clock under the revs.  I reckon Yamaha used up some old stock and one of the owners has just stuck a carbon style sticker over the gold surround.

Oh and as far as I know you don't need re-jetting for a K&N swap and SS can.  Mine didn't anyway but I'm sure someone will confirm.

Mines a 2001 and has a single display with a mode switch to display the clock, just like that one.  I've also got no adjusters but then it's been smashed up a few times.

That said I expect a lot of Fazers have been smashed over the years, pretty popular as first bikes I guess.

Has the hazard switch too so I guess it probably is a genuine late one, but with the early grab handle which threw me.

I'd be happier if it had under 3 owners but then it might have had 6 very careful owners.. you just can't know.

If it's just a ss exhaust and K&N filter then no need to rejet.

It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

wasn't forgetting  :)

Even with the s/s headers + s/s end can and K&N filter it shouldn't need re jetting. I'm sure a run on a dyno etc wouldn't hurt, but is not essential.

Hi there. Personally, out of the 2 you have shown us i think the 2nd is the nicer option. Stainless pipes, rack, slightly newer, better colour scheme and the overall condition looks better. Dealers normally overdescribe bikes too in order to attract interested parties and the 1st one is only described as 'good' which probably means 'shit'.

The amount of owners a bike has had is not always an issue if it has been looked after. Some 1 owner bikes i have seen that are only a year old have been in a terrible state and the owners shouldn't have even been allowed a pushbike, let alone a motorbike.

The mileage is also not an issue if the bike has been cared for but like most things mechanical, if it's neglected it will fail sooner or later.

If it were my money and i had £1800 to spend and wanted a mk1 boxeye, i would keep looking and also consider buying privately as i think there are better examples about for the money. Buying privately obviously comes with certain risks as most bikes will be 'sold as seen' and you won't have much comeback if anything goes wrong but if you know what you are looking at or take someone with you who does then you should be fine. My 'R' (1998) plated mk1 boxeye with 15,000 on the clock and pretty damn tidy (if i do say so myself) cost me £1000.

Admittedly, i have spent a few quid giving it a good, clean and service, oil, filters, plugs, rear tyre and the 'slip on' can but it still comes in at well under your budget  :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one - I thought these bikes seemed a little overpriced - admittedly they are both low mileage and from dealers, but still...

£1800 and I could have mine running and looking like new, even if you remove what I've already spent on it plus the initial cost!! Granted it would still take me a while :lol

I'd be more worried about the first bike and how the fcuk did 4 owners only managed to put up 15K in about 13 years!! I can't believe that they only managed about just over 1K every year on average. Personally, I'd rather a more used bike than a bike laid up for long periods of time which this clearly is. If it wasn't treated right while lying idle, carbs could be gunked up and the piston rings could get damaged from stone dry cylinder walls.

As for they rejetting....there is none. I have a K&N, stainless downpipes and baffleless endcan and it runs like a dream.
