Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / I found a CAT
« on: 20 November 2012, 07:37:29 am »
Well the bike had a few bolt on mods when i got it, one was the Blue flame slip on so i wondered if the cat was still in there.....

And yes it was,

supposedly causing too much back pressure at higher revs, so======

now i let the cat out !!!! :lol

Also the clamp bolt was rusted solid so the bolt broke, now drilled out and a new coppergreased bolt in its place.

On the way is a 16 tooth front sprocket and a PC3  so boring autumn nights are more fun in the garage.

Well us Sunday bikers (dry Sundays) haha :lol  might get a bit more biking done if the forcast is to be believed.

Actually last Sunday i was busy but there were loads of bikes out here making for the Welsh heaven.

I was out at motherinlaws mowing, heard some bikes coming and watched, 4 sit ups in a row, be it Fazers, street triples etc, i am noticing a high percentage of retro style bikes, standard bars, seen alot of them BMW 800 things too, very popular.

You seen anything unusual?

General / New paddock stand
« on: 01 September 2012, 09:51:09 pm »
Now this is my first bike without a main stand so i saw this wheeled stand on offer , supposedley £40 down from £60 plus £5 pand p

I had to do a grinding job on the one bar so i could use the hollow axle to lift the bike,,the quality is crap but it works,if you are careful.

It had been very useful,i can even turn the bike around inside a normal garage,

So reasonably pleased with it.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZ1s gen 2 airbox mod
« on: 01 September 2012, 09:37:07 pm »
Well after watching and reading the tutorials on the web i since discovering the filthy air filter decided to do some modding. :eek

So step one order a K+N filter.

So here is the original flies and the blocked off air over run pipe. This used to cause a lot of loud popping on deceleration.

so tape up flies and remove them stuck in screws, heated a long large screwdriver red hot then hold it on the head of the screw to melt the threadlock.then size 0 screw driver.

Then trim 8 mm from the existing flies (sub throttles) to allow air to the butterflies as soon as they open, avoiding the delay of servo opening them

Then trim the air box to cut out the snorkel tube and enlarge the air inlet

Cut out done

Then the pretty bit, my new K+N filter in place

Oh and then the test ride,,and immiediatly the difference is noticable, the tall firsr gear usually almost stalls the bike but not now,it almost pulls away in first without opening the throttle.
The difference is very noticeable, smoother instant throttle response, oh and the bloody loud popping has gone on decelaration.
The flat spot at 2500 to 3000 rpm is still there, not below or above, just there.

But even at very low revs it pulls much smoother, i am very pleased with the result, and all for £40 air filter.

Oh and yes over the ton ,throttle open and hear the inlets growl, very nice, not to loud but there.

Plenty fast enough for me,it sure does go,front wheel lifting gives me the jeebies, our roads are like rollercoasters and 90 mph accelerating and the wheel is up, :eek

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Rear spring
« on: 26 August 2012, 07:15:47 am »
Has anyone tried the progressive springs on the market ?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hyperpro-Progressive-Rear-Shock-Absorber-Spring-Yamaha-FZ1-FZ1S-Fazer-Non-ABS-/150873335757?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2320c067cd#ht_2416wt_1186
I guess starting soft and progressively getting harder (ooh Mrs Jones)

I presume all bikes are sold with a rear spring strong enough for two up or the big hairy fat bastard :lol ,, but what about light weights?, do we have to be bounced around? :)

« on: 05 August 2012, 08:01:21 am »
I live 100 yds off the main road which is a major A road into Wales cominf from Worcester and the west midlands,,all day on a Saturday and Sunday i hear vvvrrrroooooommmm, vvvrrrooooommmm, the village center has a bypass, two lanes up the hill to. well it would be rude not too bash up it, and the bikers do,,lovely to listen to them coming over it, the road is 80 ft higher up the field from my house so we get the noise.

This morning,Sunday i took the dogs down the orchard andthe first bike went through at 7 oclock, hell he gets out early, cant blame him really as to the roads ahead of them are awesome,

i dont know if any of you have been into the Brecon beacons national park, cafe vans around the laybys,,lots of bikes all day, great mountains to see, huge open bends,,smooth tarmac,SHEEP, haha.

There sure is some great sounds go up our bypass, them twins booming are good too.
