Title: Yamaha TDR250
Post by: dazza on 09 December 2019, 10:42:35 pm
As per title, anyone got a nice one for sale ?
I know a while back a Foccer bought one. Is it for sale?
Any Foccers got any interesting 2 strokes ?  RD's, RG's, NSR's, TZR's...... C90's don't count BTW  :lol

Let's see those photos..... All this political bollocks is making me want to sniff Castrol R.  :D

Pics to get the juices flowing.  :)

Saw this on ebay for sale. Had one many years ago.... It was an animal !  There was a definate  knack to kicking it over and I learned the hard way, never try it with when wearing trainers.

I've been looking for a 1973 RD250 for a few months now, my first proper bike after my Fizzie, everyone wants silly money for any old jap two stroke now, no matter what the condition, so good luck in finding a tdr for a reasonable price.

Here's some of my old two-strokes. Scans from the original prints so picture quality not brilliant :\
1. Suzuki RM250. First of the water-cooled models I think.
2. Yamaha RD350 LC.
3. First new bike. RD350 YPVS. Comedy pose by yours truly :lol
4. First ever bike. Fizzy DX with optional fishing tackle.

I had a TS250X on the road for a while with an RM seat which made it faster of course  :D
Had two YPVS's the first model and one exactly the same as yours.
My biggest regret was selling my 500YPVS for 2K.....IF only I knew. :'(

Not mine but looks a nice example

TS250X are super-rare. I've not even seen a restored one at any of the shows.

We used to gaze in awe at RD500's and RG500's :eek

With the benefit of hindsight I think we all regret selling some of our old bikes. Who knew at the time? :'( . It's hard getting parts for them now that most of the bits are long gone though.

My mate has a nice '81 350LC.

Haven't seen a TDR250 on the road for a long time.

Yep, had mine nicked twice. Got it back the first time. Saw one for sale a while ago for £3600 fully rebuilt and restored.
Not a bad price I thought.

Dazza - In your first pic, I had a black TDR250 in '96. It made me do very naughty things, using the drop kerbs as ramps, sliding round roundabouts, riding at speed on pavements, and generally using the road like a motocross track. I had to get rid of it, I would have ended up having the book thrown at me eventually, I was safer on a 150mph superbike.
Also in the first pic, the RD350N, had one of those too. Bought it with 1500 miles on the clock at 12 months old, rode it for 24,000 miles and it never gave any trouble, apart from the usual powervalve seals, fork seals and a clutch, my first "Big" bike. Had so much fun on it, tear arsing round with my mates on similar bikes, racing CB900F's Z1000's etc, and showing them a clean pair of heels, apart from on long straights obviously.

Looks to be a nice tdr just come on eBay, Carlisle. Could take 5k to buy it though looking at what else is for sale. I’m hoping to buy a RD350 next week , stupid money obviously  :eek . Just the way things have gone with these 2 strokes though. I used to race an ‘96 cr500 in local Mx back in the late 90’s, bike was mint but you could hardly give them away when the 4strokes took over, now they are mental money.

Very nice. I had this model in 1983. After passing my test on a GP100 it felt like a rocket ship.

I've got to ask...... How much ?

Beautiful. Had three of these over the years. Wish I’d kept at least one of them. 😢

Lovely looking 350LC and in the right colour blue, mine was a 4LO, one of the first batch, had to have the crabs drilled, followed by replacement exhausts with beefed up clamps.

Loved it, sold it to get a deposit on my first house :'(

Dazza, just seen the post , yes ran my tdr for 2 years  , sold it a year or so ago and regretted it almost straight away,  it was reliable  and great fun , brakes need regular maintenance as do the power valves,  plenty of parts available , there is a forum also. If buying any old bikes like it, factor in a engine rebuild  if no proof of , and get ready to learn about wiring! ! Like most two strokes of that era prices are going stupid,  you can get a jap import for a couple of grand  but risky as will need going over .

I paid 5500 for this one, probably @5 or 600 more than I wanted but the bike was local to me and is standard which I was looking for. My plan was to keep it original but after a few run outs I’ve fitted a set of fazer1000 calipers I had lying around so at least the front brake has a bit of feel now  ;)
